Welcome to the Shard! I have to say about Shallan, I’m pretty sure that’s on purpose since she gets called out for it multiple times in the books. Not being incredibly witty is part of her character. (A lot of what she says still earns a snort from me, though.) Are there any characters in Elantris you love?

We’re all making logical points; the content on this thread isn’t really in the vein of “Brandon is the best how dare you ever insinuate that he’s not!!!!”. If people were ignoring common sense to make their points, that would be one thing, but that’s not what I see. It’s possible that there has been some of that and the mods have removed it. That’s possible, but we have no proof that he isn’t speaking on it for that reason. In fact, if anything, I’m with Knight of Iron - his books very clearly show that he is against discrimination, and I don’t think holding them up as examples of why him not speaking up is bad quite works. Because - through them - he has spoken up. He’s expressed his opinion in them. My previous point also still stands: he isn’t specifically profiting on this, no more than any other person who continues to live and work in this environment. My parents aren’t evil for doing their jobs and not going to protests, etc. It’s one thing to say you want someone to speak out because they’re famous and can use their platform for good. It’s another to say they’re bad because they’re still fulfilling their vocation.

That’s a bit of an overreaction, I’d say. Brandon isn’t profiting off of what is happening in the slightest; his (debatably) worst action here is not saying anything and continuing his life as usual. He’s not selling BLM stuff and saying it’ll go to charity, then keeping all the money, for example. He’s just not getting involved with it at all so far.

Hang on, I think I’ve seen a Studio C with him, but idk if I’ve watched much of his personally. He seems like a cool guy though, so I might look into him more.

We do know that those oaths apply to yourself, too. I’d say that it would be fantastic if he helped the world out, but all he has an obligation to do is more good than harm. While your opinion may differ, I believe his books are doing far more to help than he could ever undo by not speaking on this subject, especially when he rarely writes up something big for this type of thing in the past.

Your argument is confusing me. Have you not ever heard someone use the s word to just mean poop in causal conversation, or the f word to mean two people doing the thing? Also, religious curses are pretty inextricably linked with non-religious ones in terms of language. Still commonly used.
