Slight necro, but I have thoughts! A lot of thoughts on trans rep lately haha. So first, I think you're absolutely right, she's very much trans-coded for the reasons listed. A transfem headcanon works really well. However, I would not go to the point of calling it representation, and I don't think Brandon was intending to write her as such. Brandon has a history of writing queer themes or queer-coded characters who are not, in the end, queer. I also think that if he had intended Masaka to be trans and identifying as a girl, he would have focused in on that particular aspect more instead of generally on how she is trying to be a human, with her gender being adjacent to that. Brandon's great, but when it comes to queer traits, subtle he is not. (Unless we're saying subtle in terms of them not showing up much...) I also believe that if he had had a sensitivity reader or talked to people about transgender stuff, he would have (and should have, tbh) mentioned it in the acknowledgements, as he has for past books - see RoW for DID and sexuality, and Tress for Deaf rep. If he'd written her to be trans, I think we would know it. I am not personally going to give him the credit for it as rep because until he comes out and confirms that this was his intent, I don't believe he deserves that credit. I want confirmed and intentional rep (and importantly, human rep in addition to all the nonhuman trans rep). However, don't let me dampen the headcanon - the vibes are there, and I well know the feeling of going "this is queer and I'm gonna hold onto what I get because I don't get a lot" - that was me with Logna's fluidity in Frugal Wizard lol. mood

Also, this: So, for new folks; there's a second group of Radiants in Seattle, both adults and teens, which the first group has only just discovered. New characters could be a part of that second group if you wanted, as any order except a Bondsmith. You could also be from another part of the world with Investiture from there, but that might take extra time to establish and we're in the climax or this particular arc, so I'm hoping to gather everything together and push the plot to its conclusion so that we can timeskip or otherwise start over fresh after that (we planned to timeskip 20 years or so in the future after this, to Investiture being known in the world). I don't personally see it as creepy at all; if you are publicly saying things, and other people like the things you're saying, they may want to see further things you say. I don't follow people often, usually only when they don't post often so I won't be spammed with notifs more than I want and only when I'm sure all their content is of a caliber I want to see. Totally fair if you want to cut off the follower function, you have that option for a reason, but people will always be able to look at your profile and find the same things on their own; it's not telling them anything new, just making seeking out what someone has said easier. This has always been how following people works and isn't new to the site update (or new to the Shard as a website). It's not new that following notifies for posts. That's always been what it does with status updates being one of many things you can choose to be notified for.

We actually had a governmental system somewhat divorced from the guild system - the guilds had representatives in the government, but the leaders of the guilds were not the leaders of the gov. I think it was a democracy? At this point, I'm comfortable saying after the Forgery and the general dramatics that go on in Alleycity, the government can look like whatever we want. I'd go with, there is one, ostensibly guild leaders can't be government officials but you can be in a guild and in the gov at the same time, something something voting, HQ is probably near the middle of the city. Feel free to make up some details.
