If Other Authors Wrote the Cosmere Novels
Shardbearer replied to Fatebreaker's topic in General Brandon Discussion
If Brent Weeks (Lightbringer) wrote the Stormlight Archive: Dalinar and Gavilar are twin brothers. Gavilar is actually a real jerk egotist, but at the end of the War of Unification Dalinar captured Gavilar and assumed his identity, ruling Alethekar as Gavilar. The real Gavilar is locked up in a secret dungeon. Navani and Dalinar fell in love a long time ago, but she was forced to become engaged to Gavilar, who mistreated her a bunch since he's such a jerk egotist. But Dalinar thought she was marrying Gavilar for love and doesn't actually know how much of a jerk Gavilar really is. So he's kept his distance thinking that she was in love with Gavilar, even though he's pretending to be Gavilar now. But they spend a bunch of time together anyway and she's falling in love with him. She thinks the war must have changed him from his old jerky Gavilar and doesn't realize that it's actually Dalinar imposing as his brother. Kaladin is Gavilar's bastard son. Since Dalinar is pretending to be Gavilar, he decided to acknowledge Kaladin. Kaladin is fat along with his depression. Taravangian is Dalinar and Galivar's manipulative and egotistical father. He doesn't know that Gavilar is actually Dalinar who is posing as Gavilar. He sent Gavilar on a mission to retrieve a stolen Dawnshard, but Dalinar doesn't know about this mission so he has to pretend he knows what's going on. Jasnah is another bastard of Gavilar, by a different mother. She's mean and egotistical, and nobody but Taravangian knows about her. He sent her into hiding to use as a political pawn against Gavilar/Dalinar (is this getting confusing yet). She has been working with the voidbringers until Taravangian decided to bring her to the Shattered plains to stir things up, since Gavilar/Dalinar is deciding not to be cooperative. Shallan is from the same village as Kaladin. He always had a crush on her but his depression kept him from approaching her. When he joined the KR academy she helped him out a bit and befriended him, but only because she was forced to spy on him. Later, she misguidedly decided to join the Ghostbloods, thinking that they have better ideals than the Alethi.- 163 replies

Bands of mourning release party??
Shardbearer replied to Peng the Just's topic in Events and Signings
So does that mean that a man with a "male" spren could be the type to develop a "bromance"? And are about half the Shards shattered? Or could Endowment be one of the Shards that isn't whole because of the Splinters she made? -
US Kindle. And the blank pages I had turns out to be the maps and images that didn't download because my wifi was being really slow at the time. Had to delete the book, restart my router, and download the book again to get those images to show up.
-
Except there seems to be a few blank pages at the beginning....
-
And to that I have to say: "Shut up and take my money!" to Brandon.
-
I can't see reddit from work. What's going on?
-
That's an interesting answer from Brandon. I'd guess it's because Forgery changes things in the Cognitive, but to gain access to Aon Dor probably requires something to change in the Spiritual aspect.
-
Probably not the master. Brandon probably would have said something like "Which Hoid?" with a smirk if that were the case.

I just remember that he kept torturing the Forsaken when they messed up. Seems pretty powerful to me.

Aliminum looks kind of silvery, so it's possible that Nightblood's sheath is made of that, which makes sense. Threnody is the only planet where it is confirmed that silver has unusual properties.

I think I missed most of the references in this latest one... Still funny though. I am a bit disappointment that Kaladin didn't volunteer as a tribute in Tien's place for the Reckoning Games, though...
-
Huh, weird that I didn't remember that little detail. And yeah, it's a bit weird that that's all he was after all the power he had over the Forsaken.
-
Wait.... What happened to Shaidar Haran? I obviously missed or already forgot it even though I just finished the last book hours ago...

Mat's Aelfinn Answers (lots of spoilers to ToM and AMoL)
Shardbearer replied to a topic in The Wheel of Time
I'd like to see what the gholam and the snakes and foxes could do to each other, though... -
Well, Scadrial and the humans there were created by Ruin and Preservation, so that would probably be the end if Harmony removed the Ruin investiture. As others have said, magic systems arise from the interaction between Shardic investiture and the Spiritual DNA of the planet.

[Speculations] Oathpact & Recreance
Shardbearer replied to Rhaegar'Elin's topic in Stormlight Archive
I for one do not that Syl took away Kaladin's powers to spite him. The way I see it, he was acting against his Ideals and so the bond failed to work in that moment. That was the start of Syl's "death" in my eyes. -
Now I'm wondering if Hoid was born in the Cognitive Realm, his home base is there, and he says the he started life as "a thought, a concept, words on a page". Hoid is a spren.

As to the original question: Dalinar was looking to refound the KR. He had no idea he should be looking for surgebinders to do this. From his visions, he probably only had vague ideas of what surgebinding was and what it could do. He may have assumed that the KR's strange powers came directly from their Blade and Plate, so only someone wearing glowing Plate would have been an obvious candidate for his new KR.

It's not a chapter. It's on tor.com and may be in SA3 or may be part of a novelette to be released later, or may just be left on it's own.

BoM comes out this month, so you might want to read that. Warbreaker is good too.

Ask the autistic person - also hi, I'm new :D
Shardbearer replied to manavortex's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Thank you for sharing. I have two autistic kids myself. It should be pointed out that not all austistic people are savants or highly skilled in certain areas. My autistic son is appears to have hyperlexia, which is a heightened ability for reading and writing. He is also mostly non-verbal, though at 4 years old he is finally starting to improve there. My 6 year old autistic daughter also had trouble with speaking until she was about 4. As far as we can tell she doesn't have any areas where she's highly gifted. Definitely not reading and writing. Maybe math. -
And wow. Just finished TGS. Masterfully handled by Sanderson, of course. I'd say this is the most exciting book in the series so far.

SUPER SAIYAN KALADIN! Oh wait... just a Radiant.

Official Star Wars Episode VII SPOILER Thread
Shardbearer replied to Seonid's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I dunno, you can't really learn to use a sword effectively by watching other people with swords. Rey shouldn't be able to beat a trained lightsaber duelist by watching him fight. Sure, the Force could probably help with that, heightening her instincts and awareness, but it never seemed that the Force would be able to impart skill like that. So, the only theories that make sense to me at this point are the ones about her having some training already.
