You Know You're a Sanderfan When...
Shardbearer replied to Shardbearer's topic in General Brandon Discussion
It would be easier if you could tell your teachers the truth? Ok, bad joke. Couldn't resist. -
Plausability doesn't seem to have anything to do with it, here. Soulcasting doesn't rewrite a things history, because a goblet could never have a different history that would make it blood. Although you could argue that soulcasting something into the pure form of an Essence for which you have the gemstone is more plausible than soulcasting something into something just a bit removed from the Essence. Jam is an abstraction of food, which is an abstraction of the plants essence (Pulp).

Yes, I was wondering if someone would point that out. However, I don't think it would take unless enough people were to imagine the same thing. For example, if Earth had a congnitive realm, would unicorns exist there? Would we be able to use magic to bring the idea of the unicorn into the Physical?
-
You couldn't create somemthing with soulcasting that doesn't exist in the Cognitive Realm.

This one is strong in the Google-fu.

Only for as long as the recorded information stay in place.
-
Because by recording it she will limit it. And since it's obviously underdevolped right now, that's a bad thing.

Someone needs to slap Jasnah for telling Shallan to study her spren and write things down about it. That can't be good.
-
The way I picture ST is like the difference between a ribbon, an aluminum measuring tape, and a yardstick. You arent really changing the shape of an item, just making it more or less flexible.
-
My wife would agree with you. Now, can you send some over to the Tri Cities since we don't have one here? Maybe I'll drive to Ritzville and meet you halfway?
-
Yeah, I'm mostly just joking. Shallan really doesn't seem to swing that way, so even if Jasnah does, nothing is likely to come of it. As for Shallan's thinking about how Jasnah looks, I think it is common for women to compare themselves to other women? Or maybe that's the common percepction, anyway.

I wonder if he's going to do SA, a smaller book, SA, a smaller book, etc. from now on?
-
Just who is Jasnah dressing up to impress? Maybe Shallan? Maybe that's why she's so uncomfortable in mentioning the prospect of marriage to Shallan...

I'm 99% positive that Selian magic relies heavily on a person's cognative/spiritual national identity. They can only use the forms associated with the region of their heritage. Galladon has some Arelon blood, so that counts as a spiritual connection in my book. So, a Selian would not be able to replace their forms with substitutes from a different region unless their Identity were rewritten.
-
Why Demoux? I think the more interesting question is: Why Galladon? He would have to travel from Sel, which isn't a very safe place to enter Shadesmar. And he's a more central character than Demoux.

Not a contract, a casual. A conditional betrothal that will become a contract once signed and notaried by the ardents. That leaves plenty of opportunity to switch things up if things don't work out.
-
I like it. It may not be very likely, but it looks possible. As for his dying words, if Tearim was posing as Gavilar, he could have been instructed to say that. Although probably not, since they probably wouldn't want the ghostbloods to have that sphere.

I wonder if Shallan's symbol is has something to do with her illumination surge.
-
Well, she'll get the same advantages for her family whether she picks Adolin or Renarin, so I could definitely see her switching sides after she starts to realize that Adolin is all wrong for her.
-
Amaram's quick departure may indicate that they have had unpleasant interactions in the past. Either that or he's just sensing her ire at men in general. Edit: This is a joke. She's probably dressing up to maintain the image of a powerful person, as her later discussion with Shallan indicates...

Wohoo! And Elhokar's wife? Was she ever even brought up in WoK? I can't remember.
-
Love this picture. And yeah, I lost the dust jacket to WoK.

How do you like your Brandon served?
Shardbearer replied to Mikanium's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Ebooks all the way. As much as I read I used to completely overload the bookshelf. Heck, the bookshelf is still overloaded from old books. And all the extra books went into boxes in the storage closet at our old apartment. 3 big, extremely heavy boxes. And our new apartment has no storage closet. And I hated digging through the storage so I could get to my boxes of books and dig through them whenever I wanted to reread something. Thank goodness for ebooks. And taking WoK to work to read on breaks was also troublesome.- 28 replies

Don't be so quick to disparge your idea. It takes time to consider the ramifications of your magic system, so no, I wouldn't say you broke Brandon's 3rd law so much as you are still fleshing out the idea.
