  1. Anyone else think Listeners sounds too much like Reckoners?
  2. Well, getting hit with a spike is a physical injury. It's possible that it wouldn't have any spiritual effect on someone with a healthy soul, especially if the act of getting spiked is not traumatic. For instance, most people would not be traumatized by having an earring pierce their lobe, so that wouldn't damage your soul. And with Nalthis, I don't think normal BioChroma requires having a broken soul. Only Returning seems to fit the bill.
  3. Yes, true. There's a possibility this person could have been killed with a shardblade and then hacked into again, but I tend to think he was killed in some other way.
  4. I'm constantly hitting the "View new content" link, which took me forever to find. Also, I am a bit annoyed by all the tumblr references, but mainly because the filters on my work and home computers block tumblr out.
  5. Ok, lurkers, I see you at the bottom of this page, 54 people are reading this topic. Come out and let us know what you are thinking.
  6. This is something I've been musing on since we got that WoR back flap. I think that every world has at least one magic system that requires a broken soul: Sel: Raoden's strained relationship and the loss of his mother can definitely be considered as a broken soul, so I think this is a requirement for the Shaod. Nalthis: Everyone has breath, so I think it's returning that requires brokenness. Given that you have to die to Return, I'd say this easily qualifies for most people, unless you die at peace or whatever. Scadrial: Snapping, obviously. And maybe you can't have something hemalurgically spliced from/to your soul without a break? When you splice two plants together, you have to cut them and tie them together with the wounds touching. Roshar: Surgebinding, as we can see from the back flap. We don't know enough about the other major shardwords to guess at them.
  7. Also, I believe that it has been confirmed that Eshonai will get an interlude chapter for each set of interludes in the book...so yeah, she's the explorer.
  8. I hate Amaram so much more for saying something that sounds so good. (If this is cannon).
  9. I've been getting a childish vibe from Adolin through all the preview chapters, not just this new one. Also "That creature carries my lord's own blade..." Definitely Szeth and Jezriens blade being referenced here.
  10. Reactions: 10: Dang that's a surreal scene. And it seems that Shallan's mother is dead by a shardblade, and she blames herself? Who else thinks the dead man had the shardblade and killed her mom with it, and Shallan killed him and that's how she got her blade. She blames herself for not being fast enough, maybe. 12: "The murderer's of my husband..." WHICH ONE? Gavilar or Dalinar? Or both, maybe. Kaladin's doing good, but he needs more practice if he's going to walk and walls and beat Szeth. Also, how would Rock like wrestling Lift? And damnation, Amaram is here. I-1: Malen and femalen as the genders for the Listeners? What's up with that? Why does Eshonai need to talk to Dalinar? Is she trying to attract creationspren to their art so they can bond into Artform? Are Shen or the Parshendi spies in nimbleform? Dullform? Slaveform? Can slaveform parsh not communicate with the song? And they did stop Gavilar from bringing back their dark gods? I thought previous readings of this interlude said it didn't work? So she wants to sue for peace? "It could have been an Honorblade." Is that confirmation that Szeth can use surgebinding because he has an honorblade? And stormform can summon and control highstorms? Wow. So the spies are in dullform. And the Parshendi have been in hiding for centuries. 14: Adolin doesn't want to offend the dead Almighty? The ship is a week late, so something happened with that cliffhanger. He doesn't think the betrothal will work, but almost wishes it will? And what was Danlan's juicy gossip that made him break thinks off with her? Watcha out Sadeas, Adolin has it in for you. Salinor had to touch the ruby to break the bond with his blade? Did Dalinar do that? And Renarin gets a blade.
  11. Do you guys have enough notes for someone to finish all of the major cosmere works if something drastic does happen to him?
  12. I just started my pre-release reread yesterday and noticed the same thing about Gavilar's early retirement. I'm not sure whether Darkness knows about Szeth, but from his reaction to Jasnah I think he was able to somehow sense her new bond with Ivory or her ability to surgebind. Also, "That creature carries my lord's own Blade..." could refer to Elhokar, which would make sense if they just finished speaking with him and were now talking about him. It could also be a reference to Szeth, who they would have seen leaving. So it does seem they left just behind Szeth.
  13. There's also this: http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=977#85
  14. But the C in Cenn makes the almost "s" sound, right? So does that count as a hard c?
  15. To be fair, you aren't quoting Warbreaker, you're quoting the common advice given to writers about writing villians.
  16. Although you are correct in saying that Jasnah would not need to change her views. She would not regard such a being as a god or worthy of worship.
  17. That depends on what your view of what a god is. For the modern world, Christianity has heavily influenced the concept of God as an omnipotent, omniscient being who created the universe. If you're a Mormon, God is a person who ascended and created the planet, or something similar. For the ancient Greeks, the gods were the children of the Titans, so they didn't create the world or the universe and they weren't omnipotent.
  18. I'd still say your theory has merit: 0. Person has a "broken soul" that can be filled with surgebindings. 1. Spren are attracted to the person, either by their behavior or because the Ring tells them to. This can happen in the Physical or Cognitive Realm. They start forming a bond at this point but it isn't anything too solid yet. It's better for the spren to come into the Physical with this light bond already in place. 2. Bond solidifies as the surgebinder continues to act in line with the ideals. They each get stronger due to the symbiotic nature of the bond. Spren recover more of their trueself and surgebinder gets better at using power. 3. First ideal 4. Second ideal etc.
  19. Good observation about the latch.
  20. Also, I am quite happy to find I was wrong. Shallan writing stuff down about Puppy is not locking him into his current developmental stage.
  21. I never had a cat eat my homework before. Pattern is a puppy.
  22. I haven't read much yet, but I did see this: I so called that.
  23. My wife, having not seen the cartoon, actually liked the movie. I, of course, am a fan of the cartoon, and I hated the movie.
  24. Are other Blades described as glowing or almost glowing?
