  1. We successfully convinced him that A.Aluminum is not needed. Storing and tapping in Nicrosil lets you store and access metalborn powers, but Allomantic and Feruchemical. Tapping Allomancy is like tapping speed or tapping weight; it's all Feruchemy that lets you do the tapping, but you get Allomancy out of it.
  2. To clarify what the others are saying: To get an infinite supply of Aluminum Feruchemical ability in your nicrosilmind, you wouldn't compound aluminum, you would still compound nicrosil.
  3. Source Other spren, like Pattern and Ivory, look very different in the Cognitive Realm than they do in the Physical Realm. I think everyone agrees these are spren of some sort, but we're not sure exactly what kind of spren they are. I suspect these are honorspren or possibly the Stormfather himself, as opposed to the Unmade. But the door is open for a lot of possibilities.
  4. It's probably the last 1000 comments. I probably go back a little farther than you can right now, but not by much - it's just whichever ones got bumped off because of the new AMA. (His Oathbringer updates take up the vast majority of the 1000 most recent comments.) Like I said earlier, Reddit's the only platform that's hard to search, and it's become a bit of a go-to excuse for the community. "Oh, I can't find it in Theoryland, it must have been on Reddit." So, if it's anywhere else, we would have found it by now.
  5. As far as I'm aware, there's no change made to the text. It was my recollection, as well, that he had two, and the explanation I've been given was that he was wearing a fake spike at the time for some reason. It's also possible that it's a retcon, that Brandon changed his mind for some reason. But, in the quote I gave you, he did say that Marsh only has one eye spike.
  6. Here's how I catalogue WoBs. I copy-paste each WoB in to my database by hand. I correct misspellings, for the very reason you identified. I read each WoB to assign tags based on what kind of searches I would want to return that quote. I've searched everything I tagged with "Stormlight 3," "Windrunners," and "Radiants." But, I don't trust my tagging system very much yet and will probably have to do a second pass, so I've also searched the text of the WoBs for "Wind" and "Oath." Nothing has come up, but if you can think of any other potential keywords, I'll run a search for them, too. But I can't imagine we'll have a quote about a Windrunner saying Oaths that doesn't include either "Windrunner" or "Oath." (But I acknowledge that might be a limit on my imagination, so I am sincere in asking for any other keywords you'd like to search for.) I have recently reviewed everything on Reddit posted by Brandon since March of 2016 (Reddit only lets me look through the last 1000 comments). I am confident in saying there was nothing in the last year that has to do with this topic. Brandon's Twitter archive is easy to search. Theoryland is easy to search. I'm thinking, if there's anything official that we can't find, it's coming from Peter, either on Reddit or Twitter. (Jofwu's search would miss the question, and I'm not collecting Peter's comments.) But I have actually done a lot of legwork, since I've seen this come up a couple of times. This isn't a quick search, can't find it, give up. I'm pretty sure this is misinformation, and I've laid out an idea in my previous post about how I think it came about organically. Yes, I have theories about theories. I need to get out more...
  7. Not if you've inputted both the questions and the answers to a local database of your own devising. (Everyone does that, right?) Only two questions on Reddit from the last year that I've saved mentioned Windrunners, and neither of them are about the new Windrunner. ([1] [2]) A search of the twitter archives doesn't have anything about a Windrunner since Feb 2016. There is a possibility that I missed a question when populating my database, but I don't find that likely. (Although I am admittedly biased.) And, obviously, the only pertinent result in Theoryland is the one I linked above. There is a possibility that it's a Word of @PeterAhlstrom. I'm going to try summoning him, just in case he remembers commenting on the subject.
  8. I've been going all Lightsong on this idea, trying to figure out where it came from. There's actually a fairly narrow timespan where it could have come from; OdysseyCon was at the end of April in 2016, and the first mention I've seen on the forums of the new Windrunner being in Book 3 was in May 2016. I have checked all of Brandon's reddit comments around then, there were no signings in that time period, but I have yet to go through the Twitter archives. (Someone else can feel free to close the book on that, since I'm about to wash my hands of the matter.) Digging through the forums, here's the first place I found that mentioned the new Windrunner being in Book 3. Maxal has taken the idea and ran with it in a couple of places since then, theorizing that this new Windrunner might be a Stormlight 3 POV character, especially if it were Moash. That idea has filtered out to other posts since then, and even though people may disagree that Moash will be a Windrunner or that the Windrunner will have a POV sequence, the underlying idea that the Windrunner will be in Book 3 has not been challenged. So, I'm going to call this a case of tribal knowledge that stemmed from a misinterpretation of an actual WoB. Not saying that there won't be a Windrunner saying the Oaths in Book 3 (and I personally think it's likely, since I suspect that pre-existing groups like Bridge Four will wholesale become a Radiant Order), but I am confident saying we do not have a WoB to the effect.
  9. I have downvoted your post, un-downvoted it, upvoted it, un-upvoted it, and then upvoted it again and left it there. What did you see?
  10. Why do you say Marsh has all Allomantic and Feruchemical abilities? Inquisitors weren't built with everything, and even if Marsh took all the spikes from all the other dead Inquisitors, there's no guarantee that there would be any that would have a F.Nicrosil spike or an A.Gold spike or anything like that. And we know that Marsh isn't the Sovereign; they have their single eye spikes in opposite eyes. (Apparently, Marsh didn't replace the spike he lost.)
  11. So, Brandon didn't give guidelines for constellations in the star chart. Isaac, the in-house artist, came up with them when he was drawing it. He supposedly has reasons for why they look the way they do (especially the more esoteric ones, like Sel and Taldain), but he hasn't told us why yet. So, since Brandon didn't design the constellations, I don't think there's too much we can infer from them.
  12. Hey, I haven't been following this thread that closely, but I know the general gist of it (why would Nightblood be so terrible in a war situation) and I see it's been quite the popular discussion. I ran across a WoB that seems relevant: Granted, it's not the most rigorous of explanations, but Nightblood empties the battlefield, destroying all creatures. It's not just destroy equipped create, it's not like something you'd equip to opponents' creatures to kill them. Board-wipe, everything in sight gone. Not sure if this quote has been brought up yet, but it makes me think we might not have seen Nightblood at his worst. EDIT: You'll probably want the source on that.
  13. I'm relatively new to the Zelda fandom. Skyward Sword was my first game (I won't count playing Link in SSB), and it was absolutely phenomenal. I've played bits and pieces of others, but Skyward Sword's motion controls were just astounding, how well everything worked. And on top of that, the story and music, which I understand are par for the course for Zelda games, were really enjoyable. I've got Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time, but I haven't worked through them yet. So, yeah, I've got Breath of the Wild on preorder. For Wii U; I'm not gonna shell out a couple hundred bucks for a single game, even if the difference in graphics quality is noticeable. I figure it'll manage to suck me in anyways, and Super Smash Bros and Nintendoland are still big hits at my house, so I'm not giving up on my Wii U yet. We'll see how much time I have to actually play the game. I'm not in college anymore, I don't have Christmas break to devote to a 100%, no-walkthrough experience. (Which I didn't do for Skyward Sword, but regretted it enough that the next game I played, Lego City Undercover, I was successful in avoiding walkthroughs and got to 100%. So worth it, but it took a ton of time, and my last unlockable character was super frustrating 'cause I got hung up chasing a glitch instead of the actual solution.) I do a lot of volunteering in the summer, so I'll only have March and April to really go to town on Zelda.
  14. Unfortunately, this is probably the farthest anyone can get from a "general interest question."
  15. So, this prompts a couple questions about specific letter choice that you've included in your chart. Taking the five identified Highprince glyphs (Kholin, Sadeas, Roion, Sebarial, Aladar) as the gold standard, it seems like that curved line in blue could be an "N" (Kholin and Roion both have a curved, somewhat hooked line on the bottom-outside of their glyphs.) But there's nothing in Kholin and Roion that looks like your proposed "N." Similar question for "L" - I can see where it's coming from in Aladar; but it looks like Kholin and Sebarial have a similar curly-Q portion, not a stepped portion like you've proposed for "L." Lastly, "V." Vamah isn't identified on any maps, so how did we determine which glyph corresponded to its highprince without a M, H, or V in any of the known Highprince glyphs?
  16. Yeah, I know we've talked about it in the past, but I've looked through all his Reddit comments in 2016 (yes, I've been busy) and I haven't seen anything to that topic. Which is why I figured I'd slip it in with a softball question that can let Brandon expound on a real-world concept like theodicy.
  17. Oh no! I was supposed to have a whole month to get caught up cataloguing his old AMAs before this new one started. Part of me can't help but wonder if he kept this on the DL just so we wouldn't have a lot of time to develop a plan of attack... Here's one question that I've been turning over in my head for a while, but it isn't too detail-oriented, and I think he might bite on it: So far, the Shards we've seen in your works have been operating much more individuals than a true 'pantheon.' But Odium has been referred to as "God's own divine hatred, separated from the virtues that gave it context." Can all the Shards similarly be understood as singular attributes of God, which, together as a collective, embody all divine attributes? In Mistborn, especially, there seem to be elements of theodicy in Harmony's actions, how he must balance these two seemingly conflicting attributes without betraying his nature. Same with the literal war between Shards on Roshar. While this question is tailored towards larger themes of religion in his books, it's designed to give some clarification on Shardic Intents, especially Autonomy (which people have been all over the place in interpreting). I don't have a Reddit account, so anyone can feel free to take this question if you're having a hard time thinking of one that isn't detail-focused. Just let me know if you do; I might give in and create an account just to ask this question, if nobody else wants to take it.
  18. I've been dredging through really, really old Brandon quotes, looking for any long-lost WoBs. In that process, I came across an old blog post of a story idea. This one really resonates with me. In the Star Wars Expanded Universe, there's a planet called Raxus Prime, which is the galaxy's garbage planet. (A video game from... I guess it was 10 years back now, The Force Unleashed, was partially set there. But I believe it was originally from some Episode I supplementary books about Obi-Wan's early years as a Padawan.) This planet has fascinated me for a long time; why on earth would you ship trash from the galactic center all the way out to a specific planet? I mean, at the very least, just find a nearby uninhabitable star and throw your junk in it. So, as my friends and I do various roleplaying campaigns (not as often as I would like), I've been slowly rewriting Raxus Prime's history. It didn't start out as a garbage world - it started out as an archive world, where important stuff from all over the galaxy was kept. But people started sending less and less notable things, until everyone just started sending their literal garbage there. Everyone has forgotten what the original purpose of the planet was, so no one realizes all the amazing stuff that's buried deep underneath the rubbish. So, whenever I write a mission or develop a character's backstory, I include something about ancient artifacts buried on Raxus Prime. (My favorite aspect is the washout Jedi Enclave on Raxus Prime. We all played incompetent Jedi who were sent there as a punishment, and we discovered an ancient ship with a holocron on it. Unfortunately, it was a Sith holocron, and we all turned on one another to become the new Dark Lord. Nobody survived. There's a reason we were all washouts.) But, yeah, this story idea has been in my mind for a while, just because it makes so little sense. There has to be a very convoluted reason for why they have created a garbage planet. I think having it start out as a capital world of sorts, which just deteriorated, makes for some very interesting possibilities.
  19. I haven't worked on wikis in a while, but I know one wiki I used to frequent switched from image galleries (which were just regular pages) to image categories, which didn't allow you to structure the page. I still think it was a terrible change. But if gallery pages aren't bad policy on the coppermind, then it could be a good fit.
  20. Connection, not Identity, is what allows you to speak languages. You tap a blank form of Connection, and it 'latches' onto whatever region you're in at the moment. Connection to a region is often essential to Initiation into the magic, but is not necessarily the only thing required. (Not everyone from Sel becomes an Elantrian.) Trying to 'hack' your way into a magic system using Connection can be difficult, because messing with Connection doesn't automatically create Investiture. Shai, from Emperor's Soul, could Forge herself so her past includes a visit to Roshar and actions according to a Radiant order, but she wouldn't be able to Forge her way into creating a spren to bond, since manipulating Connection is unable to create Investiture. (I've speculated elsewhere that Forging works entirely through Connection, but if that interpretation isn't 100% correct, the point I'm trying to get at still stands, that you can't use magic to create another Shard's Investiture.)
  21. Here's the exact quote: We will indeed see a new Windrunner specifically saying oaths.
  22. Not yet. (A quick answer for your quick question.)
  23. Unknown Highprince 4 uses some of Vamah's symbols. Is a thread the best place for something like this? This seems like a perfect wiki page, unless the Coppermind admins are against gallery pages. That way, it won't get lost in the netherworld beyond the first page, especially considering discussion and interpretation will probably all stay in the other thread.
  24. Neat! But it seems like you've doubled up on the symmetry, that the glyph for Alethela would just be based on half of the world (aleth-thela, use L-Th to make the glyph). Let me explain in a little more detail, since I know I have some assumptions. There are 'root' words, which don't necessarily need to be palindromes, that are used to create glyphs and names. These root words can be reflected across the last letter to form a holy name. When creating glyphs, however, everything is reflected across the first letter. Taln's holy name is where I see this play out: they take the root word "Talen" and reflect it around the last letter to get "Talenelat." But, a hypothetical glyph of Talen would look like N-L-T-|-T-L-N. (Line in the center because I'm pretty sure people get a line down the middle, like all of the Highprince glyphs. I suspect there are many non-grammatical rules for glyph creation.) So, I interpret the Silver Kingdoms as having holy names already, and we need to step back to the root word to build the glyphs. I'd basically cut the edges off all of your glyphs. Does that make sense? I'm open to being talked out of this conclusion. But I'm sure you agree Natanatan and Shin Kak Nish are getting a little messy... Side note, Valhav's symbol really reminds me of the Truthwatcher's Suregbinding symbol. Unfortunately, that conflicts with the ID of Roshar glyphs within the Truthwatcher's Voidbinding symbol. (We really need better shorthand for these...)
