They walked outside and the automatic sliding doors of the hospital closed behind them. The moon was a crescent in the sky, and there was a cold breeze that floated by the cars and the streets. The van they had all came in was still parked at the prom, and the keys were wherever Cassie was right now. Rob checked his pockets. He didn’t have enough money for a taxi. “I know the bus routes by heart,” he said. “With a student fare, I have enough to get us back home.”

She knew that not all of them were evil. And she thought Price was competent. “Thanks,” he said. Maybe he had overestimated how she would feel about the revelation. It just hurt him every time a soldier looked at him a different way, like he was an evil man who fed his subjects poison or something. They looked at him like he was less, that while they served on the front line he was doing inhumane things to their own people. Price just wanted to help Tühine. Like any other man who’d grown up hearing the glory of battle, seeing the nationalist murals. He looked to the side. “Do you want to follow me to the marketplace? It’s where I have to pick up the new subject.”

Price nodded. She seemed unphased by the revelation, insisting that the bargain be reworked. That was fine, Price hadn’t even offered her a contract yet. “You asked why that soldier said what he did, that’s why,” he said, meeting her stare. “That does not mean everyone is like that, nor does that mean testers are all evil,” he said adamantly, because he felt he’d ruined her perception of him. “It is like the rumours you hear about any group. Nobles, beggars, soldiers. The actions of a few do not dictate who we are as testers, nor does it dictate the entire initiative.” He looked to her. “Some abuse their power. Like with everywhere else.”

Price fumbled and averted looking into her eyes, unsure what to say. Unsure how Sagitta would react. So he took a little step backwards and gestured his hands in frustration, the words flooding out. “Sometimes testers blackmail the subjects. Sometimes they trap the subjects with contracts - they are these documents, which you mark with your blood and are like a promise you have to keep by law. And of course no one wants to break the law because of the police. “And sometimes, becuase it is all underground, the testers do horrible things to subjects, turn them to slaves in the name of science but not all of them, Sagitta. I’m not like that! It’s just...” he closed his eyes. “Some rumours like that spread around to the soldiers. And some are true, and some aren’t.” He stopped, and very hesitantly looked up to her.

Marcel smiled at his hunch of the woman being a Radiant being correct. He wasn’t a forensics expert yet, but the studies had certainly paid off. She asked him to guess her surges and he tilted his head, turning away from the dead body and the bloodseal and looking at her. She had a gem-like spren, so... “Soulcasting?” He asked. He idly thought whether it was possible to construct a bloodseal that could tell someone’s Investiture. Maybe, with a line there, a pairing sigil there, connect them with carved loops... no. He came to the conclusion it wouldn’t work. Bloodsealing worked mostly on the physical, controlling level. That was why Marcel didn’t think he could heal whatever trauma Wita had or why he didn’t think he could use it to detect Investiture.

I stood in between her and Apollyon. “You need to clear your mind, relax,” I said. I looked back at Apollyon for a second and back to her. My detective skills hadn’t been used in a while, but they still existed, because the plot required them to and the only thing cooler than a pudding-lover with an existential crisis was a pudding-lover with an existential crisis who was also a hardboiled, ex-detective, such as I. Yes, life was tough on these alleys, I thought, the world suddenly seeming like a black and white movie where I was the detective, the widow coming to my office like an autumn breeze, asking me to solve the death of her husband. The only thing here was that the two hadn’t been married yet. She handed back the spoon and I looked at it, and then slowly tried to give it back to her. “Trust me, it will help.” -
“Yes, we should,” Rob said. When she stumbled he’d stayed still, tried to act like a pillar for her support. “But first, there is school tomorrow, and tonight has been a very late night.” He looked up at the starry sky. What time was it?

Price’s eyes widened a little bit and he quickly shook his head. Was this why she had been so worried? “No, no, not at all. Those soldiers, they don’t know of the tests. They don’t know what we do with people like you, so they make up their own stories.” He reddened slightly and looked down. “And no one is expected to do anything at night, except sleep. Tühine abolished slavery 55 years ago, with the exception of Cahayans, of course.” He looked back up at her. “Soldiers just - they try to fill the gaps with things they don’t know. I haven’t chained you, and if you’ll notice the others in the carriage with us are free to walk around the market, we are not restricting you.”

The group spilled outside of the carriage and onto the dirt ground of the town. The formally dressed man gripped the crazy man’s shoulders to stop him from running off, and the other woman inside the carriage stood independently outside, looking around. Price himself heaved himself from his seat and into the sudden light, looking to Sagitta. She wanted to talk. A part of Price was afraid. She had been on the verge of threatening him before, and now that they were in a town where she could run away into, she wanted to talk to him alone? The events that might have happened played in his mind. But another part of him knew that was irrational. “Okay,” he said, walking a little bit away from the others in the group, so that they couldn’t hear. He looked to Sagitta. “What do you want to talk about.”

“Yes, it is,” Rob said. He walked slowly ahead, to try and make sure he didn’t speed ahead of her. He thought back to her previous words. Thanks, Rob. Was that the first time anyone had thanked him in... weeks? Months? Rob wanted to say weeks but he knew it was longer than that. But that was fine. He was a Stoneward. He stood, he endured, and he kept a straight face. That was his job. “And you are a fine Dustbringer,” he said, remembering. ”You swore the Second Ideal. And you took down more Voidbringers than anyone else.” He thought for a moment. Taking down all those Voidbringers had come with a risk, of course. Shana could have died. But it wasn’t Rob’ job to worry. He wasn’t supposed to worry. He was supposed to stand tall and strong, like a wall. “I wonder why the Voidbringers tried to kidnap you, instead of killing you,” Rob said.

After two and a half hours of silence, with the exception of the crazy man occasionally rambling some random fact and the sound of hooves clattering across the ground underneath them, the carriage stopped. They were only half of the way across the trip to the next city they’d be testing at, but the carriage driver had insisted his horses get food. So they stopped at a small farming town that overlooked a vast countryside. Price hadn’t been to these places very often, it had always seemed unruly, and besides, research and development here was practically non-existent. The town-folk were simple people, they ate, they slept, and they sent people to serve their nation in the army. “We are stopping to eat,” Price said for all of the subjects. He was hungry now, too. “We’re also stopping so that the horses can be fed, and because we are picking up another’s subject to take with us.” Looking outside they could see a small crowd of farmers looking at the carriage questioningly, but otherwise resuming their regular duties. The carriage had entered the town, and had stopped right next to the town’s marketplace, which brokered the farm.

“Sir yes sir!” Wes said, used to being screamed at by his superiors. He watched as the creature dove and went nearer to Mike, just as the machine gun began to become low on ammo. He began to target it more at the monster, and some of the bullets at passing by abominations. — — 75% Charge. Out of the remaining five Canton members, two brought out their guns before they were immediately consumed and one drew an Aon Edo shield the other two hid behind. He the decaying power of the monster battered the shield, forced the Canton operative’s power dry. “I can’t hold it for long!” He screamed as the Charge reached 80%. “You can do it!” Cried the other two remaining operatives, knowing what they had to do. The Edo shield broke down and the operative was swallowed in a mess of decay and pain. The other two operatives screamed and one grabbed the others’ shoulders. “When I’m gone,” she said, slowly. “I want you to take care of my cats.” “Tali, no. Please, I love you!” There were tears in both of their eyes now. “I love you too, Haster. I love you so, so much. But Aethers like me were meant for this.” And at the yell of the man the woman stepped back and channeled her Ferrous Aether, becoming a large mechanical shield that covered the charger in the dome. As it was a living piece of metal, it was effectively a large Invested shield. The man cried out, he knew as well as anyone the change was permanent and she wouldn’t survive. And in his last moments, he used his microburst power and nicrobursted his love until he collapsed in a heap from exhaustion. 90% All Canton forced dead, only a large nicrobursted Ferrous shield in the way between life and death.

Marcel frowned and stood up straighter, turning towards her. His bloodseals could do many things, but they were limited. The closest thing he could do to make her forget was turn her into a mindless skeletal. “No,” Marcel said. He turned to Kira. Playing dumb. “A Radiant is a magical soldier. Anyone who ‘accidentally’ stumbles into an alleyway with two Invested people, and a dead body that was probably Invested, and doesn’t call the police or scream or cry, but instead asks what happened is probably one of them, Kira.” Marcel looked back to Wita and hesitated. “My sister could do it,” he said. But she was in France and not to mention pure evil. “But there are a lot of better, easier and painless options to explore.” @Hope Spren @Dr. Dapper

Rob tried to support them out of the hospital as well. ”I saw that scene on YouTube,” he said. “I have never seen the movie, though.” He looked away from Ben and James for a second and looked to Shana. “Do you need help walking?” He asked, a mirror of his question when she had been too exhausted to walk down the stairs without tripping. @Wyndlerunner @Lunamor @Sorana

That seemed as much as an agreement as he was going to get, so as Sagitta casually leaned back Price tried his best to do so as well. The formally dressed man raised a silent eyebrow at him - the way Price had handled the situation was... unconventional - and the plainly dressed woman just looked at her feet. Price occupied himself by closing his eyes and trying to meditate, a technique he’d learnt from some books at the military library. Destroy, destroy, all of his problems would be gone so easily if he just destroyed all of them, ripped them all to shreds. But he knew he couldn’t do that. He didn’t have the strength or power. He was a ledger, not a soldier, he couldn’t destroy an enemy soldier, let alone his problems. But still, how easy would it be if he could will his problems away and they’d be obliterated? You have the Instinct. You have Entropy. You decide what gets destroyed and what doesn’t. He had his Instinct. But he knew his Instinct alone wasn’t enough if he wanted to take care of all his problems. He’d have to be a god to have that much power. “Jyzny will not be as tolerating of aggression,” the formally dressed man said.

flamesinger theory The Universe
I think I am here. replied to John Flamesinger's topic in Roleplaying
Cheh looked at her. Well, as his father had told him, even the wisest monk had something to learn. “They come from the Spirit World,” he said. “It’s another place, I don’t know how to explain it, it’s not another, physical place. It’s like... another plane of being. Spirits are from there, they are creatures formed by natural processes, or represent them. They are... beautiful, and dangerous.” He continued to look outside the window. “Recently, more spirits have been coming to the normal world, but still. One day I wish I’ll be able to see the Spirit World myself, not just in pictures from books. But, as an Earthbender, my nationality and magic are the complete opposite of what it takes.”- 502 replies

Price’s breath caught in his throat, but his nervousness only manifested as a slight movement of his arm, to adjust his spectacles. He knew the dangers of working with soldiers, he had tested on a few himself. But that never took away from the envy, nor the fear that at any time a soldier could probably snap Price in half. “I don’t imply anything,” he replied, voice soft. It was another tell of his fear which he found annoying. “I am straightforward. When I want to tell you something, I will tell you. There is no need to play word games in an environment like this. I am a scientist, not a soothsayer. Understand?” His voice was much softer now and he cleared his throat to restore it. To the side the crazy man continued rambling: “Understand, understand, the word for ‘understand’ in Tühinine and Cahayan languages is the same, with a very small accenting difference.”

“I wouldn’t risk a lie,” the man said and gave Price a look - a look to make sure nothing bad happened. Sagitta was his responsibility, at least on this trip. Price didn’t like the idea of that, but he knew that if any trouble started with Sagitta, the Supreme Generals wouldn’t hesitate to punish him for not keeping her in check. “They were probably talking about normal things,” Price said. “We should have asked them, but:” he looked to Sagitta. He had to maintain good standing with the formally dressed man as well. Always take the middleground, except when Tühine was on the line. “Talking in a different language can be extremely stressful to those who are supposed to make sure no trouble is caused.”

“Yes,” I said and gave a thumbs-up to the three people who upvoted my previous action. Turning back to Ene, I noted she was in shock. Ah, shock. I hated shock. Shock was like a still pudding, when you knew deep under the surface everything was messy and poorly made. Shock had tricked me into eating many a bad pudding before, and I wasn’t going to let that happen to Ene. It was my number one concern. That and the dead groom, of course. But he was dead and dead people didn’t like pudding, so I turned back to Ene. “It’s okay,” I said soothingly, bringing out a pudding cup from my pocket. It was strawberry flavoured. Gently I tried to put the pudding cup in one of Ene’s hands and the small, plastic spoon in the other. “Everything is fine, it’s just fine. Eat this pudding, it will make you feel better. The pudding wasn’t drugged with morphine or supernaturally going to make her feel better, but it was the best pudding I had in my arsenal. Homemade from wherever I come from (probably from my author’s brain), so that had to count for something. I looked at Ene in concern, and then at the dead groom. “Dead as a doornail doesn’t make any sense,” I grumbled under my breath. -

“You mean it’s possible to earthbend stars?” Cheh asked, following her to look outside the window. He didn’t understand why they needed this big machine to travel here, a simple boat or glider should have sufficed. He thought about what she said of stars, and how they were made of earth. Cheh blinked. He couldn’t even metalbend, why was he thinking of stars? “You seem to know a lot,” he said idly. “I bet your people probably know more about the spirits than we do too.”- 502 replies
