“Yes,” Max said and suddenly there was a large bang, like the sound of an explosion and Max looked over the edge of the roof. A bright blue light had formed in the city, and suddenly it grew to gigantic proportions, a massive blue dome of a forcefield, charged up with the Canton’s signature form of Aonic Investiture. “The first shield,” he said to Althea. He had severely underestimated how much power each shield had. With the same type, it would only require one more shield to completely seal off an area of the city, not two. “All we need is another one,” he said. “And we can trap them.” ——- Time. All Wes needed was time. Yelling he swivelled the machinegun and fired off a barrage of bullets. Most were deflected by the creature’s tectonic scales but Wes didn’t care, he fired wherever he could, he fired at the wings, and at any opening of the scales he could see. The eyes, the flesh, the wings, Wes fired at it all, trying his best not to fire near where Mike was standing. “Die, die, die!” He yelled, the warcry seeming kind of funny coming from a kid as small as Wes.

“Creativity,” Price mumbled, writing something down in his ledger. Useful, very useful. They had a lot of speculation on how far creativity could be pushed. A Cahayan subject would allow for more... borderline unethical efforts. The second Sagitta said caught him off-guard and he stopped his writing, looked up at her. Had he ever seen a battlefield? “Only weeks after the battle is over,” he admitted to her. “Why do you ask?” The Cahayan looked at Sagitta, still with wide eyes. The price of fighting. “I was conscripted,” he said.

Cheh moved to the seat but just as he was about to strap in the pod lurched, and he saved himself from slamming onto the wall by holding the seat tightly. With worry in his eyes he looked to Jessy, the suit that was far away, the shaking pod with lights blinking. She would die, Cheh knew somehow, if she didn’t have the suit. Metal, the suit had many metallic parts of it. The shaking and violent lurching of the ship rattled Cheh’s brain into calm, and in one moment of peace Cheh felt the metal was him, metal had little pieces of earth in it, and he was the metal. Before he could comprehend what he was doing in one movement Cheh metalbended the suit and sent it flying in Jessy’s direction. The ship shuddered again and Cheh strapped himself in. What had he done?- 502 replies

“Thanks,” Cheh said and hopped in. The suit closed behind him. Maybe another type of person would have felt claustrophobic in the fully sealed suit, but not Cheh. Tight spaces, caves and tunnels, they were Cheh’s main hideouts. A tight suit was nothing. Looking to Jessy he pointed where he had found the other suits, so she could put one on.- 502 replies

The Cahayan gulped. “My Instinct’s Creativity. It’s useless.” Releasing only Sagitta could understand him he looked at her with pleading eyes. “Please, they’ll kill me.” The group of three that been with them in the carriage had joined again, the crazy man holding some sort of wooden figurine. They looked at the commotion and began signalling farmers away. A test subject was no use if he was dead. The horse rider had finished feeding his horses and was sitting in the rider’s seat.

“Name?” Rob asked. Name a hammer? “No,” he said. “I am not very good with naming things. I would just call it ‘hammer’. Maybe you can name it, when you see it.” He saw her look back and he gestured to Ben and James, who were still outside the hospital, to hop on the bus with them. @Lunamor @Wyndlerunner

“Tomorrow it is,” Rob said, as he saw the bus approaching from down the road and signalled to it. “Speaking of weapons,” he said. “While we were waiting for the prom, I didn’t have much to do. So I shaped a hammer, because I remember you said you wanted one. It’s out of stone right now, but maybe Leona can soulcast it to the right material later. And it’s a bit big, but I think with stormlight you should be able to lift it easily.” The bus came to a stop in front of them. Rob shrugged. “I thought you might like it. As compensation for destroying your last weapon.”

“Okay,” Cheh said and started running around around the escape pod. Clothing, she’d said, but with helmets. Maybe she wanted the helmets in case they crashed, so their heads would be protected. Running around he approached a section of wall that had weird symbols running down it, maybe a different language. There was a piece of metal on the wall, but nothing else. Cheh touched it, but the thin metallic piece glowed red. “Fingerprint scanning required,” a voice spoke over the intercom and Cheh looked at the strip. Fingerprint scanning? Looking at the pieces of stone shattered across the ground Cheh stomped and punched them in the direction of the metallic strip. The rock pieces smashed the strip to pieces, and the wall slid open to reveal five people. No, those weren’t people. They were really thick clothes, made from some sort of armour, and the helmet was made from glass. Glass? What protection was a glass helmet? “I think I found them!” Cheh called out, bringing one out and trying to give it to Jessy. “They look nothing like I’ve seen before.”- 502 replies

As she read out the document the eyes of the Cahayan widened and he quickly began talking in Cahayan, tears welling up in his eyes. He looked a few years younger than Sagitta, and currently he seemed terrified. “Please, I’m a scout I haven’t killed anyone I was just following what my superior said I promise I’m not valuable I’m just a kid I don’t want to die!” Price ignored him and looked to Sagitta, pointing at the words. “‘Addendum’ means something that was added to the bargain. It already existed, and it was added. ‘Mercury’ is the name of a city, and ‘necessary’ means it has or needs to be done.”

Alask accepted the apple with a grateful nod and looked to Mart. “It begins with a little boy, who lived in a small town. His name was...” Alask quickly tried to think of something. “Tom. Tom was a curious boy, and the town he lived in was next to a big, dark forest. A very scary forest. Tom would ask his parents ‘what is in the forest?’ And his mum and dad would answer: ‘Very bad things, Tom. Never ever, under any means go into the forest.’ “Tom understood. When he was a little bit older, he asked the priest: ‘priest, what is in that forest?’. The priest looked at Tom and told him: ‘Very bad and unholy things, Tom. Never ever, under any means go into the forest.’ “Tom nodded, because he had his answer. Then, when he was a little older and a young man, he went to the librarian. He was still a curious young man, and he asked the librarian: ‘librarian, what is in the forest?’ And the librarian, she gasped and told Tom: ‘Very bad, unholy and scary things, Tom. Never ever, under any means go into the forest.’” Alask took a break by biting into his apple.

“The 762,” Rob said, looking at the bus stop. It came in five minutes, and it would be about a ten minute drive before they reached the house. Idly Rob was relieved it was a short bus ride. Public transportation, this late at night, and you usually got some shady figures prowling around. “And with saving you, I,” He didn’t really know what to say. He was just doing his duty? It had been nothing? He hadn’t gotten a thank you in a while, maybe later he’d have to Google what the appropriate response was. “Thank you for thanking me,” he said quieter instead, because it was nice to feel appreciated. But it wasn’t like he would outright say how he felt about it, that would be going against everything his father taught him. “And well, you’re a Second Ideal Radiant now. I’m sure now that we’re on the same Ideal, you should be able to outmatch me with no problem. Especially since the last spar we had was a tie.”

“Crash?” Cheh asked, moving over to the controls. He looked at the blinking red lights. They had been caught by a planet. How did a planet catch them? A part of Cheh was excited, a new planet. “Will we die if that happens?” Cheh wished he could metalbend. If he could, maybe he could control this ship and soften the fall himself. But of course, he was useless.- 502 replies

They approached the carriage, where the horse rider was feeding his horses some carrots, but the other three who hadn’t been travelling with them were not in sight. It didn’t really matter, they would come to the carriage later. He turned to Sagitta, and then looked at the Cahayan who was being hauled behind them. Some children who were playing around looked to the man with ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’, a couple spitting on him. His were wide, perhaps he knew the rumours of what Tühine did with Cahayans. Taking out a sheet of parchment Price handed it to Sagitta. “Could you please read that out to him?” The parchment read: You have been captured by the United Monarchy of Tühine. Do not attempt to escape or evade your capture, such actions will be dealt with using harsh penalties. As a Cahayan prisoner of war, you will be kept in military hands for however long as the base wills. A trial is not necessary. You have no rights in Tühine, and according to the War Addendum of Mercury you are to be considered equal to if not less than cattle in legal terms.

Alask nodded. Cute kid. He had his mother’s hair, that was for sure. “I can tell you a story that’s both horror and about heroes,” Alask said. “Not scary, I promise. And you both will like it. You and Toni.” Shez rumbled. “Do you think he has a bond with the bear? Like we do?” No, Shez, Alask said. He’s just a kid. Kids like talking to stuffed animals. He could sense Shez’s confusion.

Great idea! I feel like most Returned with a healing-type affiliation are the most pressured to give up their Divine breath. So, I think we should try and pick a name that doesn’t put too many expectations on our Returned, and gives them a good standing with society. Currently, I think a name that relates with working-class people will be most helpful, and give us a good reputation with lots of Hallendren. So:- 144 replies

“No,” Price replied and looked to the prisoner again. Finally, a subject who could be subjected to more dangerous tests. It wasn’t inhumane, Cahaya had done terrible things to Tühine in the war, so it was perfectly fair that Tühine retaliate. Cahayans were enemies of war, and Price hated them with a burning passion. “Can you?” He asked Sagitta. She was from Ta’e’ilo, that bordered Cahaya. He looked to the farmer holding the Cahayan hostage and gave him some golden coins. Not worth much in the cities, but valued deeply in the countryside towns. “Your service to Tühine will not go unnoticed,” he said and gestured for the farmer to follow them back to the carriage. He looked around the marketplace stalls with curiosity. “I suppose you don’t want to buy anything?” He asked her half-sarcastically. “A souvenir for your time at Tühine?”

Cheh laughed. “I guess we can try.” He looked to Jessy. “It takes practise in meditation. You know meditation, right? When you are very skilled in meditation, your essence, or your soul, can separate from your body and enter the Spirit World. Meditation comes easier to some and harder to others. Me, it would come harder to. Earth is the element most opposite to spirituality.” He looked to her. “But you say you spend most of your life in the sky,” he thought for a moment. “So maybe it could work easier for you.”- 502 replies

“I’m sure,” Alask said and lifted him up. He’d heard some of Lena’s stories himself, when he hadn’t been able to control Shez. Control. It seemed that when him and Shez had been one, had been synced, it hadn’t been control so much as cooperation. Maybe the key was not viewing Shez as a savage creature, but as a being Alask could talk with, negotiate with. “I know a couple of stories,” Alask said, looking at the bear. “Maybe not as many as your mum, but a couple.”

Abrasion and Progression. That’s right, Marcel remembered. Radiants had two surges, not just one. And he knew that that specific combination of powers had a name, but he wasn’t caring to recall that right now. He looked to the body and kneeled down beside him. Looking at the wallet that peeked out from one of the pockets he grabbed it, flipped it open. There was a substantial amount of cash, untouched. “Christopher Hartley. He was murdered. Obviously.” Marcel looked over the body once more. Motives, motives, motives. What was the motive? “Definitely not a gang hit, the mob doesn’t use knives. No money was stolen, only his rings, earrings and bracelets.” Looking at the wallet again he saw the picture of the victim. All of the earrings and rings were the same metal. Marcel frowned. “But according to the image all of his jewellery was made of copper.” Not a particularly valuable metal. “So, the murderer was taller, stabbed him, didn’t steal any money, wasn’t gang or money motivated, and all that was stolen was the man’s copper jewellery, which you can buy cheap at any local hardware store. It is... an interesting murder, with an unclear motivation.”

“Just don’t tell them,” Rob said, and shrugged. He walked to where there was a bus stop, not far from the hospital. “I have learnt that if I don’t tell anyone anything, they stop looking for explanations, and just accept that is who I am.” It was part of the reason no one really asked him how he was, because they knew the answer. Rob was Rob, no matter what happened, he had the same neutral expression.

“Yes, we will talk about our bargain,” Price said and walked past bustling stalls. The marketplace was filled with yelling townspeople trying to sell things to each other. One was yelling about wooden soldier figurines and another was yelling about bread. A couple were competing over selling Tühinine ‘lucky charms’. As he approached the meeting point, he saw another man carry over the new subject. Except unlike the other subjects, this one was bound by his wrists behind his back. He had a black eye, and he was carefully led into Price’s view. “I found him in my farm,” the man said, and Price nodded, looking at the captive subject with hatred in his eyes. A Cahayan.
