I voted for links because they are always nice to have, and it doesn't really intrude on simplicity to have just a "Source" link with your quote. It also isn't too hard if you are already taking the time to go find said quote. I did want to go on the record Kurkistan, and tell you that you are being a bit overzealous on this topic.

I'd really like to see a link and quote for that, as it is all news to me. I have a bit of a hard time crediting such information being divulged without it being common knowledge.

I would argue that Shallan's powers won't belong to the Lightweaver order for 2 reasons. 1. I hold that Shallan's 2 powers are Transformation, and her memory-type ability that she uses for drawing (though I'm sure there is more to it) 2. The name doesn't need to apply directly to whoever's flashback it is for the book. WoK's title did apply somewhat to Kaladin, but it definitely gives the impression that the book is more about Dalinar's storyline. I like this fact, as it gives each book more complexity and layers than focusing each book on one character. As a side opinion, I think Dalinar will stay alive and well through book 5 (though he could die at the end). This is not because of his flashback, but because I think Brandon's comments are a bit of a red herring. I think it is likely someone may die before their flashback book, but I don't think it will be Dalinar.

Thought this would be useful to bring in this quote. Source

I would like to announce that I just finished Alcatraz 4 and I have now read everything available by Brandon Sanderson! I'm not counting old drafts of books and Prime versions though.

You could try looking at developing a more of a spectrum type system where you classify emotions along a spectrum (and I would probably avoid classifying emotions as positive or negative, as that would tend to limit you). You could use something like the four temperaments and classify each emotion and power under a specific category, but then you can say it leans toward another category. It would be like having 4 points on the compass, but having points in between them where your different choices are.

So I was looking at the ketek at the end of TWoK and noticed what I think is a discrepancy. I may be missing something, but I can't see it. A ketek is supposed to have 5 section, but I only count 4. “Above silence,/ the illuminating storms—/dying storms— /illuminate the silence above.” Am I missing something?

Factoid about the Development of Shardblades
FlashWrogan replied to Kurkistan's topic in Stormlight Archive
And allows for much bigger, epic, and violent battles while keeping the gore level down, thus leaving the book series more accesible to a younger audience, and/or those readers who prefer to avoid that kind of gore. Edit: Forgot the period, shhhh! Ignore the run-on sentence too. -
The evil genie game... With a Sanderson twist
FlashWrogan replied to Oneyespike's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Having failed to answer the genies request for a wish, he comes up with one on his own for you: You are forever bound to the highstorms as Kaladin was temporarily. You have no control of your movements and are forever bound to be a far away observer of Roshar but never to get close enough to understand what is going on. You black out once the storm dissipates, and do not regain consciousness until the next storm makes landfall on the eastern shore. Oh and you are now immortal and perpetually cold . I wish for a carved set of of soulstamps similar to Shai's, but modernized and geographically bound to my homestate of Oregon. -
If someone would care to link a picture of these title pages I would love it, as I don't have access to my hardcopy right now. As far as previous info on Heralds and Radiants, this has a good chart to show most of the info we know. I know there is a post somewhere that has a picture of the Knights Radiant symbols with some good analysis on it, but I couldn't find it.

Been seeing more spam than usual lately, particularly in the other category but a few other places too. There was one in TES section last night.

Certainly sounds plausible, though that cultural storyline sounds very similar to the Aiel from TWoT.

I've had similar problems yes, though I wasn't paying close attention to the times. I couldn't get on this morning (about 6 hrs ago) and I've had to be real patient with it recently.

Definitely some good stuff there, particularly the Seons, Szeth, and altering soulstamps

There is an application for OS X.

I have a feeling we haven't seen much progess bar updates lately because BS has been on tour for more than a month, and he just had a new kid . He does keep it up to date, he just isn't moving as fast as most of us wish he was.

Not that I'm as far away as you guys, but BS came to Portland this Monday (2 hrs from where I am) and it happened to be the ONE Monday that I had class for the ENTIRE term. Guess I'll just have to wait until he comes around again . . .

So I decided to look through at specific descriptions of shardblades and there effects. Looking at these quotes, I get a feeling that it is likely they stem from a negative power (i.e. Odium). On Scadrial we can see in hindsight that hemalurgy is a significantly darker magic system and that this fact could be interpreted as an indicator as a link to a negative Shard. Severing the soul and causing eyes to smoke, go black, and shrivel is enough to make me think many or all of them could be linked to Odium. The quotes below are in the order they appear in the book. Something to consider is that Roshar is the only world where we have seen an imbalance of power between Shards. Honor is broken, but presumably both Odium and Cultivation are whole and present. Logically we would see a shift in the use and/or availability of power between Shards. If there are indeed specific shardblades associated with specific Shards, it is a logical conclusion to assume that shardblades from Honor have either been subverted by Odium, or have disappeared somehow and been replaced at least in part by Odium.

The evil genie game... With a Sanderson twist
FlashWrogan replied to Oneyespike's topic in General Brandon Discussion
The secret of Adonalsium is that he was once Alcatraz, and his shattering was him being sacrificed on a pile of encyclopedias. All of the the shardholders used to be evil librarians and the Shards are pieces of the ultimate lens. I wish I could have my own Honorspren bonded to me -
Don't worry about missing things at this point, unless you have a major aversion to rereading books later on (I find that BS's are worth it). The books are written so that the reader doesn't need to know anything about the cosmere to read the books. Cosmere info is inserted as more of an easter egg. Once you start getting a better picture of what is going on in the background, you can go back and reread the earlier books.

So I'm currently trying homestuck and have just finished act two. I keep hearing that it's going to get better. My question is: in what way? The artwork is fine in its own way, I enjoy much of the video game references/mechanics. What frustrates me is how long it takes for the story to move forward as well as the type of humor being used (which much of the time is too random and base for me to get much of a kick out of it). Do these things improve? I think I could really enjoy it if the humor got a bit smarter. P.S. On the other side of things, I did enjoy the wandering vagabond and rose sequences (I go back and forth on John's)

Everyone except Dalinar does regularly repaint their shardplate, so that could be an easy explanation for the different color. If they are not one and the same, I would guess they have been held in waiting for Elhokar's heir either under guard somewhere, or being used by some champion.

Deaths, Character Arcs, Couples, etc.
FlashWrogan replied to Lightflame's topic in Stormlight Archive
In addition, the way he talks about writing his characters, he says that he lets them take risks. If those legitimate risks don't some times end up killing a character, that undermines the value of the risk they take. It seems like he stops short of George R.R. Martin (who will kill your favorite character just to be cruel . . . I'm not bitter) and gives the sense of realism of you never know what will happen. -
