  1. Investiture is attracted to sentience. I think the more sentient something is the stronger it's impact is on the Cognitive. On top of that I think that the general subconscious worldview that is shared is what controls the shape of the Cognitive as well. This I think is why the Cognitive is flat, because people don't think about the world as round even most people here on Earth don't properly view it as round even if they understand that the world is round. Additionally, things on land often are viewed as many separate distinct things even if they are part of a larger whole. For example, a forest is still seen as many trees because we can actually properly perceive the pieces making it up. In contrast, bodies of water are almost always considered one homogeneous whole, a lake, a river, an ocean, etc. That I think is why they are solid in the Cognitive. And lastly I think that's why travel is so short in the Cognitive is because people are notoriously bad at understanding the distances of space. Because humans and other fully sapient beings int the Cosmere are actually aware of the world around them and make mental connections and views about the world around them compared to say a stick which is more focused on it's own existence rather than the world around it.
  2. I was more thinking the process of actually drawing the Aon
  3. What I meant by that post was making an Aon that creates Aons
  4. This is why I think it's mostly unfeasible travel through the Spiritual Real. Kelsier wasn't able to properly comprehend simply looking into the Spiritual, so my guess is going into it is beyond human ability to understand
  5. I think the biggest challenge would be the Cognitive Intent necessary to create an Aon
  6. I'd love to be a gold compounder. Never feeling sick again or having long term pain and just being in perfect health all the time would be great. Additionally it would be great for doing risky things without worry. Though the cost of it would get high fairly quickly, so I'd need to find a way to afford it.
  7. In terms of raw combat ability, TLR is like the single most powerful character in the Cosmere. Brandon even said that between him and the Susebron if they fought that TLR would almost certainly win. On top of that, while it's assumed he didn't have access to chromium and nicrosil, they were still technically possible to refine during the final empire. The only reason Vin beat him is because he wasn't taking the fight seriously, he got distracted, she figured out his Achilles heel AND she was directly fueled by the raw power of a Shard
  8. While I'm sure that is the case with most of the magic systems, the WoB I posted heavily implies that there is a more specific origin to Feruchemy than other magic systems. Then there is this Which can be an argument for both sides of the discussion but considering just how good Preservation was at predicting the future he may have planned for Feruchemy even before they created Scadrial and how it could have 'naturally' developed. An arguable intelligent design situation. And it's also likely not completely natural after this RAFO
  9. I assume Preservation created Feruchemy. My guess is that he created it at the same time as he gave the Terris the Prophecies and around the same time he trapped Ruin using some of Ruin's power to create it. That or he did something when they originally created humanity when Ruin and Preservation were combining their power
  10. Like I said, the idea is circumstantial at best but Frost as far as we know has never held a Shard so he wouldn't know beyond the observation of how Odium has acted so his view could very well be less than accurate. And as far as WoB goes, he has been good about not making his villains so one dimensional with a few exceptions such as Straff. Also the desire for power could be the human aspect of him not his Shardic Intent.
  11. Had a thought on Odium today, hadn't noticed this anywhere else on the forums so I thought about making a thread. So I was looking at the definition of Odium. Here is Merriam-Webster's...well one of the definitions. "the state or fact of being subjected to hatred and contempt as a result of a despicable act or blameworthy circumstance" It's the "result of a despicable act or blameworthy circumstance" part that got me thinking All we have on Rayse before he was a Shard is from Hoid's perspective which is in all likelihood biased as you could also describe characters like Breeze for example as loathsome and crafty. I'm not saying by any means that Rayse was good by any means but he may very well have not been evil. After he became a Shard he may have been twisted by the Intent of his Shard like Ruin was. We don't know enough about Ambition to make a clear statement but Endowment considered her a problem and I think that was what drove Odium to start killing shards. It's entirely possible that Ambition did something that Odium felt she deserved to be punished and destroyed for. As for Devotion and Dominion, they broke the agreement between the Shards and settled together on a planet. He could have viewed that as unacceptable and his Intent inflamed that to punish and destroy them as well. As for Honor and Cultivation, there is still much too much backstory we lack which could completely discount everything I've brought up but he ultimately did not Splinter Honor until after him and Cultivation were living on the same world. His hatred towards other characters seems to be focused at sleights such as humanity and the Parshendi turning away from him. I've said before that I'm of the opinion that the names of the Shard is by no means a full understanding of the Intent of the Shard but just an interpretation of the Intent. So I was thinking that perhaps Odium's Shard could also be interpreted as Judgement or something similar but Rayse interpreted in a terrible way twisting him into what he is now. This is circumstantial at best but I found the thought interesting and I was curious what you all might think.
  12. I don't really consider it folds in space but my hypothesis is an attempt to describe what happens in the book versus the explanation given to us. It's already established that Elend can overwhelm the Inquisitor
  13. That's a good question as the forces in that scenario are somewhat different but I think the answer would be yes as long as Elend could truly apply enough force in the opposite direction as the Inquisitor's Push. But I think there would be other factors that would affect it such as whether his hands can handle the direct Push from the Inquisitor on a smaller surface area whereas in a Push it is the whole body against the whole object.
  14. Pretty much how I'm thinking.
  15. This is kind of how I imagine it with this crappy ms paint image While factors such as mass and anchorage are factors I did this solely thinking about the force of the Push itself. A represents standard strength push as it's kind of hard to properly represent it M is the metal I is for Inquisitor E for Elend The dots are the force being projected The result is that the Inquisitor is being pushed at 1A by his own push and 4A by the superior strength of Elend's Push While Elend is still also experiencing a 5A push on himself as well the piece of metal is experiencing a 4A Push towards the inquisitor. This is when the personal Masses of the objects start taking hold. Elend has much more mass than the metal and Newtonion physics dictates that it gets moved. Because now the Inquisitor and Elend both have the same amount of force from A projected on them yet the piece of metal is heading towards the Inquisitor it is the inquisitor that gets Pushed. All of this is assuming I remember my physics properly. It's been a few years.
  16. Yes, that is more or less what I'm saying. An not quite accurate example but still would get the point across I think is think of the blue line as a bar. How strong the bar is represents represents the relative force. So in the Elend-Inquisitor example, Elend's bar is metal while the Inquisitor's is rubber, if those two push against each other they which would give out first? Now the blue lines cant bend or break so that force is blown back on the Inquisitor. Both kind of? Basically how much of a counter force is applied during a Push/Pull per Newton's Third Law. This does a good job of representing my thoughts but not quite exactly. I'm not particularly good at putting my thoughts into words. Kind of harkening back to the original poster, the force can be thought of as in the form of the blue lines getting longer in a Push and shorter in a Pull. So with Elend and the Inquisitor, the path of least resistance for each of their respective blue lines is to Push the Inquisitor away as both would be burning Pewter and be able to plant themselves pretty firmly (though Elend's was probably stronger still) and chull the Inquisitor would be providing less force to the confrontation he is the one who got moved. My one issue with this is Vin was pretty certain it was because of Elend's strength. Also back in the first book, strength of force is referenced as a factor back when Kelsier and Vin did their spar with the coin.
  17. Sorry, I know it wasn't a good explanation. So basically, when the Allomancer Pushes the force is sent through the blue line evenly to both the metal and the Allomancer and that is when Newtonian physics take over and that is why weight is important in standard Steelpushes/Ironpulls. This dynamic is a little different though when two Allomancers are pushing against the same object. When that happens, if the two are roughly equal in strength as most Allomancers are then it get's back to weight and leverage to decide who wins. However if there is a large enough disparity between the two Allomancers then each of them are applying their own force onto the object and one of the two is applying more force. When this happens the greater force subsumes the weaker force. That's when weight isn't the deciding factor as much as the amount of force being applied.
  18. I have my own pet hypothesis as to what happens when Steel/Iron is used. When either of those metals is being burned it creates a connection to all the metal around them (a connection that is at least partially based on perception as shown by Wax's flashback with the bullet). When an Allomancer then Pushes or Pulls they are using their Investiture to create a force through that connection that affects both the Allomancer and the object evenly. This would give the illusion that weight versus weight is what happens during Pushes/Pulls as the weaker of the counter-forces would be the one moved. This would explain situations like in Hero of Ages where Elend goes up against the Inquisitor as the amount of force going between him and the metal both him and the Inquisitor were pushing on was greater than the force that the Inquisitor's connection to the metal was supplying and as such all that force got transferred to the Inquisitor. Hopefully that made sense, I find it hard to explain without a visual to help.
  19. A friend of mine has a hypothesis that there needs to be a Connection to the magic system to sense it. So a purely Allomantic Seeker/Mistborn can only sense Allomancy but if they are a twinborn with a Feruchemy Connection then they would be able to sense Feruchemy. I personally like that idea myself.
  20. I honestly can't answer that with any certainty though I can guess. First of all being the most powerful mistborn who ever lived already, TLR wouldn't need need to use as much Investiture to get up to those levels and secondly he likely would have much more experience properly utilizing that Investiture than Wax's one time.
  21. The Final Empire very much had the technology to make Nicrosil as their technology was mostly analogous to 1700s or 1800s pre electricity and while difficult it was fully possible to make refine Chromium and make it into Nicrosil. While yes we don't know if F-Nicrosil is needed it is still the most likely answer based on what we do know. Raw Investiture is the only part of the Bands that we know of that could give Wax the power boost to his Allomancy that we see in the book.
  22. Well, we still don't know how he was so overwhelmingly powerful as a Mistborn. Sure he rebuilt himself in the WoA as a powerful Mistborn but as far as we know, F-nicrosil is needed for that much power.
  23. While electricity is needed for refining it in large quantities and be cost effective, I'm personally of the opinion that TLR had the Steel Ministry refine small amounts of both chromium and cadmium over his 1000 year reign for his own personal use.
  24. I still think that Chromium, while difficult, was fully possible in The Final Empire as the metal itself was discovered here on Earth in 1797 So I would agree that Cadmium was also possible
