  1. Though there are lot of factors pointing to the fact that this guy isn't Nohadon, I think the fact he defines Dalinar's quote as his own is too important to ignore. I would have to disagree with this theory.
  2. My assumption was that they 'fell' through the realms, and after dying their consciousness only existed in the spiritual realm without any physical aspect or influence on the physical realm.
  3. Brandon says that his best writing he has done is The Stormlight Archive, and I share that opinion.
  4. Interesting point about perception. I would say this is largely based around name trends over time and geography. For example, if I was told someone I had never met was called John I would probably imagine them as an adult white male, though I am certain there are a staggering amount of times when I would be wrong. Other people might think differently depending on the Johns they knew on a local level but I would account most of the variations to cultural tradition.
  5. This seems the most solid theory to me. The series is said to have 30 or more magic systems which will likely be derived from all three of the shards. The series is called the Stormlight Archive, implying the significance of Highstorms will be present in almost all areas of the books. Plus, the nature of the highstorm as already mentioned holds the traits of each shard.
  6. Ok, Thanks Rubix
  7. Hey Nightfury, great to have a new guy here. Keep reading the rest of Brandon's books Just a word of warning - if you don't want any spoilers regarding the books you haven't read yet don't go in the "Cosmere Theories" section of the forums, as its basically a minefield for all things Sanderson. Have fun, and welcome.
  8. Today when trying to enter the chatroom, I was unsuccessful with a message saying I did not have authorisation, though I have entered before. Does anyone know how to solve this? Thanks.
  9. Thats likely actually a lot easier than it sounds, seeing as you can get away with anything in high imperial when of course nothing makes sense anyway
  10. One of my curses is that I always enjoy the POVs that have the fewest chapters, bar Kaladin. I love Szeth so it would be great to get a book for him
  11. Yeah I agree with a lot of this and I probably didn't elaborate my opinion enough. What I really refer to is the 'proactive' meaning. So while people see our name as having meaning because its 'our' name and they couldn't imagine us with any other name (like Observer said, which is a great point and I wouldn't have remembered it otherwise), which is the 'reactive' meaning, there is also the meaning that our parents chose before or just after we were born ('proactive') which seems generally absent from our original names. This is a great topic to discuss, keep it going
  12. How can they forget the Heralds between Desolations if present Vorinism mentions them?
  13. Does anyone know who draws the Uk covers? I'm curious.
  14. I can imagine this being written on the wall of some derelict Gulag in Siberia with a skeleton lying on the floor below it.
  15. Correct. And the way you have put that reminds me of the Heralds' fate while between Desolations. Maybe there's a connection?
  16. Sure if you have an uncommon name, Yamato, but what about the millions of people called 'William' or 'Samuel'? I'm confident in saying that most parents who call their child William do not name their child after a famous William, but simply think the name is a fairly good one that will be looked upon normally by other people. Even my name, which is very rare in the Uk, has no significance to my family or personality, or even my heritage (it is a Greek name, so I am named from a place I have never been).
  17. I find it ironic how a name that we use on the internet for almost all of us has infinitely more meaning than our original names.
  18. It would be great to know the reason behind everyone's usernames on the 17th Shard, though admittedly there are a few very obvious. Mine, to start, is for two reasons. First, I like Straff Venture's evil style. Secondly, Straff comes quite close to my real name (Stefan). So what about you?
  19. My bad. Thesaurus.com engage!
  20. Does anyone know what the '-ium' phonic means? Its used in a lot of contexts so I'm not sure (we get adonalsium and odium, but then we get atium too).
  21. Hoid told Kaladin to look over Sigzil, which seems an unlikely request if Sigzil himself was powerful enough to worldhop. I think he might be aware of more than we have gleaned from him yet, though. I'd compare the knowledge he shows of Roshar to that of a Keeper from Scadrial, which might mean he knows something about the greater picture.
  22. Totally.
  23. Oracle perhaps? We don't know for certain.
  24. You might already know this but theres a whole set of lectures like these on youtube, under the channel "writeaboutdragons". A lot of them are relevant to other parts of writing
