  1. I thought it was 'Shash' rather than 'sash'. This has been mentioned before, I believe someone asked Brandon about it in an interview.
  2. Hi Meg, I read this the same way that you do, if that helps at all.
  3. Thanks Chaos, I'll look for that next time I'm mobile
  4. That would make sense to me. When you burn a metal, it act as a kind of catalyst, allowing you to access the power of the Shard, so Ruin burning Atium would simply have allowed him access to that portion of himself that he'd been forcibly separated from.
  5. I would personally still imagine cities being bigger than wilderness - even though plants and animals have a cognitive presence, I'm would expect it's less of a presence than self-aware beings such as humans, kandra or parshendi.
  6. I'm going to assume that the site remembers which theme you were last using - just logged in on desktop to find myself staring at the mobile site, which was a little strange. Easy enough to change, obviously, but a little disconcerting at first.
  7. I think that's almost correct, Ruin couldn't find the Atium, which prevented him from overpowering Preservation as he couldn't reclaim that part of his power. If he could have reclaimed the Atium, he could have completed his destruction of Scadrial much more quickly; as it was he only had a slight edge on preservation which allowed him to act on the world in more subtle ways, slowly brining about the changed which would eventually have caused the end of life on the planet.
  8. Wow, trying to type on a phone at 1am on a ridiculous all-night shift is amusing. Needless to say, i did bot attempt to write "yo work done". And yet, strangely, the sentence does parse ok... I didn't actually realise there was a mobile site prior to the upgrade. I must say i prefer it for speed and clarity when browsing on my phone, though the real site is much more aesthetically pleasing
  9. If i remember correctly, the smoke, the god-metals, and the liquid form are all considered physical aspects of the two shards on Scadrial
  10. Just to let you know, the full version button seems yo work done on Windows Phone 8 in IE
  11. He's done it at least once, Also, the 17th Shard on Roshar state he might be in disguise, or under an assumed name. EDIT - It's a cross-cosmere spoiler, so I've included tags as this is a WoK thread.
  12. Looking forward to the guide to changes. On the whole I like the more modern look. One thing I think is a shame though is that we've lost the sub-headings on topics (often only used to denote spoilers, but sometimes used for other reasons)
  13. I already have my set, but I'll ask my RP group if they want any.
  14. So on another threadElwynn kindly directed me to Isaac Stewart's site, for a nice look at tWoK internal illustrations. And I couldn't help but notice, tucked in with the Heralds... Who's the guy in the mask?
  15. Lol @Phantom. I wouldn't necessarily go with Harmoniser - it implies a link to Harmony, when Harmony is Ruin and Preservation. Feruchemy is balanced by itself, add Allomancy and you're leaning more towards Preservation. To balance out you'd need something more of Ruin, like Hemalurgy on top I guess maybe something like a Fullborn (if there even is a name for it).
  16. Ah, thanks Elwynn - I didn't think to ask about the actual cover (as opposed to the dustjacket). I have the UK paperbacks, which have art by Sam Green. So the Glyph-sword in question is the same one as the internal sword on the first and fifth books, which was tied to the Windrunner symbol over in... another thread I can't seem to find now, but would have linked to otherwise. :/ In which case, would have nothing to do with Dalinar after all, (my misunderstanding).
  17. Apologies if this has been discussed already. Trawling database, found this quote regarding the KR glyphpage. I'm not sure what he's referring to. I don't have a hardcopy, and I'm having trouble seeing a sword-shaped glyph in Whelan's artwork. Is there an embossed glyph on the hardcover? If so, what does it look like? Edit: I mention this because I assume that's Dalinar on the cover, and this could be relevant to his best fit KR order.
  18. This assumes it never goes lower than your given, below-average baseline. What if before seeking the magic he was average (100), and now his IQ can range anywhere from 50-150 (or an even greater range)? Given that choice, I'd rather stay average.
  19. Whilst I'm not discounting the possibility, nothing about the quotes given necessitates that Odium left behind anything but the now directionless power of Devotion and Dominion. I'm calling Occam's Razor for now.
  20. Ok, the Kelsier bit I assume is to do with him trashing the Pits, but the Spren comment... could it be that, as Seons contain a Splinter of Devotion, Spren contain a Splinter of Honour? I think 'Spren are Splinters' was debunked, but theres obviously something going on there
  21. Well, I finally managed to work my way through this. I'd have to say, that for the most part I think I agree. I'd like to clarify my reading of it though: From my understanding, 'forms' are an aggregate of spiritual (or perhaps cognitive? I'm not sure which of the two I think works better) interactions/connections. These forms then become like a reference in the Spiritual realm which other entities can refer to, in a similar vein to the notion of the Platonian Ideal. These forms are also subject to change over time due to spiritual/cognitive changes (changes of spiritual connections or cognitive viewpoints, depending on which you subscribe to, or perhaps a combination). I'm still not up on how this applies to Spren, as I'm not read up on current popular Spren Theory (so I'm not satisfied in my own head yet what Spren actually ARE per se), but from a Forgery perspective I can see this having merit.
  22. Personally I'd lose the drop shadow, it kind of blurs the symbols. Other than that, I'd go with your simpler version.
  23. ugh, been too busy lately still to go over this whole thread (I will get there, I swear), but to give a brief synopsis of the relevant concept from Raw Shark Texts: (I don't remember the exact wording, and my copy of the book is... Somewhere. So I'll try and paraphrase as best as I can remember) imagine your consciousness, your memories, desires, all the information that make you 'you' as a lake in a valley. Now imagine that every person in existence is another lake, in another valley, so that if you were to look from on high there would be lakes sparkling into the distance as far as the eye can see. Now, consider every time you have contact with another person,be it a conversation, a letter, a phone call, there is a transfer of information between lakes, which can be imagined as a stream connecting the two lakes. The more contact you have with an individual, the more information passing between the two, the wider the stream, until you have a vast network of waterways from tiny trickles to vast rivers. in the book, these conceptual rivers give rise to conceptual life forms (concept-fish, that swim in the information streams, some of which are highly predatory). That's not really relevant to this discussion, but it's a cool notion and important to the plot of that story. However, I do see strong parallels here for the concept of the spirit web as a mesh of associations or connections (which in the cosmere may well be towards more esoteric concepts than only human consciousness). I don't know if this is in any way helpful to the discussion; I hope it might provoke some thoughts on the nature of the spirit web and spiritual connections. Otherwise, ignore an old fool and forgive him his ramblings
  24. I agree with this in principle; however if we take Shallan and order 6 as a given (we don't have to, but as further evidence her first Soulcasting is into blood, which is the essence tied to Shash), then Jasnah could conceivably also be tied to Order 7 and Bettab (Wise, Careful). I still think order 5 is more likely however, given the reasons by Cheese Ninja quoted above (just offering points for debate)
  25. I really like this, but I'm currently too sleepy to try and figure out the implications (like yourself I've yet to make it through this whole theory). I'll try again tomorrow after some sleep. If anyone has ever read the Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall, it has a somewhat similar idea which may be adaptable to this.
