Spren killing each other in physical realm
Invocation replied to Elend Venture's question in Cosmere Q&A
True enough. Spren eugenics is good for no one.- 13 replies

Spren killing each other in physical realm
Invocation replied to Elend Venture's question in Cosmere Q&A
It's also going to be very difficult on the Cognitive side, as it is to kill most spren on that side, and not really worth the time you'd have to take to do something like that.- 13 replies

Spren killing each other in physical realm
Invocation replied to Elend Venture's question in Cosmere Q&A
You might could do that, but...why? The spren can't hurt you on the Physical side, plus most people aren't aware there's anything else there. Not everyone gets into the Cognitive Realm (yet).- 13 replies

Definitely true, both about the wait and optimism on Szeth's book. Ironically, we were supposed to already have Szeth's book (it was supposed to be 3) but I'm fine with him swapping it for Dalinar's book.

Growing it too fast or too much at once results in cracked gemstones, and if two people have sections of the same Plate and are trying to grow from it, it's going to start growing with whichever gives the largest amount of Light the quickest which can cause delays. We haven't seen (off the top of my head) the cracks sealing over, because generally if someone's Plate is cracking, they're getting the crap beaten out of them so soundly they don't have a chance to seal back over, so we don't know how fast it really grows.

Dead Plate would probably take longer than 30 seconds to regenerate, but living Plate might straight up defeat your idea, leaving the ones you'd most want to kill like that completely immune to it. Still, capping anyone with Shardplate is a good thing, and I'll admit your strategy has merit if you can get it working right.

Spren killing each other in physical realm
Invocation replied to Elend Venture's question in Cosmere Q&A
That's mostly what I'm talking about, is aiming. Hard to kill something when all you can see of it is its tongue/droll/waving antenna, and nothing vital. Easy to kill gloryspren, though, I'd guess.- 13 replies

Sometimes, the damage does seal itself over, even when not completely healed. From the Coppermind entry on Shardplate:
-
Wouldn't work, probably. I get the feeling someone would have tried it (and they probably have, and failed). Plate probably seals itself much like the helm's viewpiece does, in the same process as that and the same process that allows it to conform to the current user each time.
-
Welcome to the Shard! We love having new people here! Are you more excited for Szeth's POV book (Stormlight 5) or Jasnah's (Book 10)?
-
That's a pretty good depiction based on the somewhat loose descriptions we've been given.
-
Hmmmm... good point. Could be Vax is more than just one thing. Might be a very specific route through the CR or something. Or he could have multiple areas where Vax could be. Wait a second. Could Vax be a roaming planet?
-
Might partially be because of the Stormlight that's always coursing through it, plus the fact that we don't know the process of what Plate is, fully, yet, so it could be considered more ceramic than metal.

Highly Invested object behave strangely. Plate is very highly Invested, which contributes to the oddness.

Full Plate Kaladin dropkick - now with extra Lashings and a foot-mounted Shardblade. Run in terror, all ye enemies. SHARDCLEATS
-
Especially powerful if the theory that, much like living Shardblades are magnitudes better than dead ones, actively bonded Plate provides that much more of a boost than Plate that we're used to, is true. I kind of hope it is and we get to see Kaladin Lashing drop-kick someone again, but in full Plate this time.
-
Fair. Imagine if you were a Radiant, though, and could use a small Shardblade for stances and also a hammer for when you need raw brute force.
-
Yes, my bad, I didn't understand. All the force being concentrated at one point might be useful, but I think the hook would be better used to disorient people by shoving it around their arm and whipping them around. Besides, if you want all the force in one place, might as well just use one of the giant hammers they let people with Plate but no Blade use. Seems to do the job of breaking other Plate quite well, considering it takes someone in Plate to even be able to lift one most of the time.

I wouldn't say that it rules it out. Does Lor happen to have a moon?

Spren killing each other in physical realm
Invocation replied to Elend Venture's question in Cosmere Q&A
Absolutely true that it's more than what manifests with the fearspren, but it's still a very minor portion of the actual spren either way.- 13 replies

It's not so loose with the physics as you think, Roshar just has a different gravity, ecology, and atmosphere than earth. Gravity is 70% cosmere standard and the planet is just under 90% cosmere standard, leading to a fair bit higher amounts of oxygen, plus is why everyone is so storming tall there. The multiplier is important, too, yes, but that pales to swords that sever souls of their victims. Plus, if you lose a piece of Plate, you can hurt yourself badly trying to punch if it's an arm section, to the point of breaking your own forearm if you aren't careful.

Spren killing each other in physical realm
Invocation replied to Elend Venture's question in Cosmere Q&A
There's spren for just about everything, so probably. There's a refute to the anticipationspren thing, which I'll put in a spoiler since I'm unsure if you've read Oathbringer yet.- 13 replies

It's pretty good, at a pretty good cost: free!

That's the way to do it. Finish the first draft first, then go from there. Pretty good story, all told. I'm intrigued by the amount of magic this guy has, and even though I know it wasn't intentional, I'm laughing at the filter that changed some of the curses into "storming" and "damnation."
