  2. This video is not meta, and you know it. And if it *were* meta, it wouldn't be because it and it alone happened to be suspicious.

  4. Shortly thereafter, they would passive-aggressively attempt to predict the bloodiest fates for the other contestants, and then covertly make them a reality. The winner was picked from the few remaining olympians, and ties were decided by creativity and minor-detail accuracy. EDIT: Aaaaaand there's a ton of them in general discussion.

The dying shall die, the hungry shall starve, the waning shall vanish. Such is the way of my kind... Such is the way of the obscure referencer...

That would be in no-way confusing to anybody, and is totally how I should be playing this.
  8. The introduction forum is flooded with the things again. How are they getting past the filter? I thought 17S used captchas and an entry question?
  9. http://brandonsanderson.com/warbreaker-prologue/, because somebody asked. Usually it would be l or ., or some other single character, because I usually don't like to leave anything copied.
  10. I don't think an epub version of it would be free to share, but maybe that's just me. Counteracting this point, however, is the fact that the entire book is online on his website and fairly easy to read that way. Sorry if you already know about this as I'm sure you do, but I'll drop a link anyway: http://brandonsanderson.com/warbreaker-prologue/ Since e-book and such version of Warbreaker have to be paid for, I'm not sure if sharing anything other than the link is strictly legal. You'll have to ask somebody else about that.
  11. There is not a forge. There is not an old forge. There never was an old south-Scadrian forge hidden deep in the dankest recesses of the 17th Shard's staff basement. There is only a cheerfully painted Girl Scout cookie-stand just begging to be filled with delicious cookies drenched in the chocolate of the innocent neighbors. This stand is only used at parties and on streetsides, for the hungry children and passing drivers. IT IS A WONDERFUL COOKIE STAND. Get your facts straight Kobold.
  12. Keep in mind that we don't seem to know much about pre-pupation chasmfiends or where they even come from or grow up into. It's been a long time since a new chasmfiend was allowed to be born or one was allowed to pupate. Chasmfiends don't live in the Shattered Plains. Take a look at when it attacks Kaladin and Shallan, that thing isn't really built to fight in those holes. They live someplace else and grow up someplace else, and when they stop being a thing I'll eat my hat if they aren't sorely missed by the ecosystem.
  13. Well put maxal, very well put indeed. There's always going to be the sexism issue as well, unfortunately. People can whine that there aren't enough female big bads, but I can also imagine a lot of whining about women being portrayed as evil in a work just as easily. It's a gutsy move to make a "minority" (Only now as I type that do I realize how much I hate that term in this context) a big bad or something close to it. Also, remember, Most Writers Are Male, and getting emotions and motivations just right has always been hard either way, and creating a flat and/or unbelievable female character is often far worse than not having one at all. Not everybody can make a Vriska Serket, and not everybody wants to risk failing. This is starting to dry up and die, but I'm guessing it'll be a while before we have anything close to a similar number of female and male villains on the shelves. EDIT: Because posting for clarification is overrated. I was referring to the fear of screwing up the creation of a female villain/anti-villain (depending on the view) by making a "meh" character or somebody who feels one dimensional. I wasn't talking about actual evildoing or threat value, as that is something totally different that I'm not really qualified to talk about. Vriska just happened to come to mind as an evilish female character who didn't feel like a botched attempt because of the evil known as summer thought repetition. As you said, kind of beside the point, but I still felt like adding this edit.
  14. I'm with WW on this one. Bendalloy compacts time inside of a bubble, with size and compact-ness determined by power. Now matter how much time you shove into a single second, you will never make that second a negative second. Bendalloy seems to work via multiplication/division, like a ratio, not subtraction. You aren't taking time away from others and giving it to yourself, you're compacting the time you already have. If it were subtraction, you could eventually reach a negative number, but in this case, all you can do it move ever-faster in smaller and smaller alotments of time.
  15. Well, looks like I'm de-lurking from a thread I myself inspired. II thought of the idea because I change my user-title with each new rank I attain, and most of them are either dumb jokes or references to past threads. As an artifabrian I was a Shardtank manufacturer, because in the Cosmere Zombies thread I talked about powering a tank with Stomlight and using murder-holes to cut down sneaky zombies. As of writing this my title is Speaker of the Vast Hoax to match my rep title of Cryptic. It's a reference to Homestuck, where the legendary Genesis Frog is known as the Speaker of the Vast Croak, and various other, unrelated things are known by variations thereof. It's actually pretty nice knowing the origin behind some of these titles. A few of you are kind of baffling.
  16. Or use it to restore your lost memories. Really any time you use your Divine Breath for yourself or something stupid. Having a traveling Aspect with Agoraphobia would be pretty worthless too.
  17. There's always this list here for creating a female villain who doesn't fall into sexist and frankly idiotic pitfalls. I guess you could always make a sociopath character, with real-life people to base them on. Or have a darker take on a powerful child-character like minus from the webcomic of the same name, or you could just saw "screw it" and make an evil empress in it for the same reasons everybody else is: Immortality, Power, Control, and other things that are certainly not male-exclusive desires.
  18. I believe there's a female-exclusive version of the Evil Overlord List somewhere out there on the net. Build a villain off a few of those rules, and you might have something going.
  19. He mentions somewhere in Way of Kings that he sees things with twisted symbol faces in the mirrors. They seem to have since lost interest in him, or are afraid of Kaladin. I'll go look for the quote. EDIT: A Chasmfiend is literally an impossibly large monstrosity with a bulbous, twisted body and a malicious emerald intent gleaming in its eyes as it malevolently hunts you down. If that doesn't make you note it down as "wrong and evil" I'm not sure what will.
  20. Well, I've managed to pass the ranks of the Truthless, and along with it the corresponding Observer User Title (OUT) of "BAD LIAR". I became a sentient awakened object commanded by the OUT to "CREATE GOLDFISH" because callbacks to the cosmere zombie thread are the best callbacks. Now I am a Cryptic, Speaker of the Vast Lie, bane of people in bathtubs and hater of sissy creationspren! Kneel before my political power! Is there a thread of user titles? Because that would be pretty cool if there was.
  21. Use your divine breath to heal a papercut. ... ... .. ...YOUR paper cut.
  22. Is there really any indication whatsoever that those spren are evil in any way? They hold chasmfiends and other large greatshells together so that Roshar's gravity doesn't destroy them via square-cube law, and haven't been shown doing anything beyond that. Is there anything in WoK or WoR that indicates that these things are evil beyond their company? I have no idea what maxal is talking about, but hanging around Elhokar isn't exactly evil behavior either. Cryptics hang around the king too, and only a few people are calling those things evil. So yeah. What am I missing here? Because with what I know, which is admittedly lacking, there isn't really anything to support this at all.
  23. I BLAME SOCIETY Okay, always wanted to say that and actually mean it, sorry. It seems a societal thing. I can't really speak for Yolen, but on Scadrial we had gender roles that applied to most people, Warbreaker doesn't really have a big bad yet as far as I'm concerned. It has a lot of bad people, but nothing akin to the other Shardworlds. Roshar has this exact same issue, it's just really hard for a woman to wind up in that large shadow-draped throne. I won't lie, I'm expecting it to happen sooner or later on one Shardworld or another (Probably Scadrial IMO), but I'm not overly annoyed that it hasn't happened yet. None of these worlds are developed well enough on a social level for that to happen very easily. I'm rambling now, so I'll quit while I'm ahead and hope you get my point.
  24. Yeah, I've been out of commission for a while, but it looks like I'm 40% back for now. Good news to those who haven't noticed, it looks like the mods have won yet another one-sided humans vs robots battle. If I had to guess, the reason behind these recent invasions is a serial-hemalurgist, removing various mental aspects from these poor neglected bots. They're just naturally coming to one of the few places that can help them with a large number of filled spikes. What do you say we give them some "cookies" next time they show up?
