  1. @robardin: It is in chapter 95:
  2. It was before, since Nale's spren was tortured with him on Braize, according to 12124.
  3. We still don't know that those are actually Skybreakers. But if they lived in Shadesmar on the edge of Rosharan space, they could have left as soon as their spren became able to do so and got out of the time dilation bubble cosmere years ahead of everyone else. A few people in Bilming couldn't be a whole country's worth of population. I assume that Iriali leadership knew in advance that an exodus was at hand and sent some scouts ahead. And then the main migration got caught in the time dilation bubble. I'd dearly love to read about Iriali trek and their descent onto Scadrial, presumably in some uninhabited or lightly inhabited area. And then the PoV of some Scadrian explorer stumbling upon them... @Oltux72: It was Ladrian, the woman hiring him referenced the accident that was manufactured to fake Edwarn's and Telsin's "deaths".
  4. We shall see. Odium wanted his legions to be hardened and practiced for his conquest of the cosmere. We have no idea if all of the nations that allied with him had the wit or the desire to stipulate peace in their agreements. I bet that the current leaders of Jah Keved, for example, did not. There is also perpetual darkness that should really lead to a nuclear winter. Perpetual rain that should ruin crops. And possibly a sudden lack of or a severe drop off in ambient investiture leading to the dying of flora and fauna that depends on it and isn't actively tended by people. Also, epidemics, since that same ambient investiture was suppressing the spread of infectious diseases. Etc. Plenty of scope for the application of Radiant powers to make things better, IMHO.
  5. Funnily enough, it is far from a modern expression and the internet tells me that it has been in use since 1601. But I agree that Sanderson sometimes tends to use jarringly modern or very much our world specific words, when there are perfectly good "timeless" words and expressions that he could have used instead. Like, why write "clone", when you could have said "twin" instead and it would have expressed the same thought without feeling anachronistic? OTOH, I actually always had this problem with his writing. I didn't re-read SA before WaT, so maybe there is comparatively more in it, but I distinctly recall feeling this way about the earlier books as well. For instance, frequent use of "plus" just doesn't fit a society without a compulsory education in written maths and feels jarring to me. IMHO, YMMV. I love the books despite this and I thought that WaT very much stuck the landing as an arc conclusion.
  6. Whatever method the Ghostbloods developed for exporting stormlight might prove helpful there. Conveniently, they have a number of high-ranking Ghostbloods as prisoners. But Radiants should also be able to use Lifelight that Lift can infuse into spheres (as shown in RoW), as an interim step. It wouldn't surprise me if it proves to be less volatile than stormlight. But eventually, yea, I hope that Rushu, the flying glove guy from RoW, Huio and hopefully even Vasher get together and figure out how to split Towerlight into stormlight and lifelight. It would still limit the Radiants in interesting ways, because it was hinted that they don't have that many gems in Urithiru anymore, and now they'd have to go into the world without the chance of a top-up and would have to manage their supplies of investiture very carefully. That is, once Jasnah figures out how to Transport them out of the Tower bubble in the physical realm.
  7. "regular shipping lanes were planned to Urithiru, where Towerlight would also allow manifesting and the creation of food and water for humans" Chapter 147. What I find intriguing is that the peak spren city is somehow getting food and water from off-world despite the slowness bubble. It could only be from Ashyn, right? Assuming that the whole Rosharan system got slowed. Because after a couple of months, caravans from out the system would surely stop coming, now that there is nothing to trade and you'd get Rip van Winkled if you go. And anyway, they could have never imported enough water over such distances.
  8. It happens between the Stormfall and Shallan's chat with Kelsier, due to massive time dilation immediately after the Shard fusion and Cultivation's exit. Kelsier referred to a _crisis_ that they had recently, which can only refer to Autonomy's incursion, and in TLM his inner circle still thinks that Iyatil is alive. Hoid's epilogue happened before Shallan's last appearance, because he is on Scadrian time after his desintegration, while Shallan spends months in the slow-time bubble at it's peak.
  9. Shallan should return to the cognitive Urithiru for the birth and at the very least the first year of the child's life. Unlimited Towerlight for healing and manifesting whatever she needs. And also a very good chance that Jasnah would eventually succeed at learning to transport people between Shadesmar and the Physical realm.
  10. Some of the epigraphs are from her disciple 6 years after the end of WaT (check chapters 133 and 147 in particular) and Jasnah is supposed to be one of the main characters of the second half of SA and have book 10 flashbacks. So, no. Also it would be a massive waste of an intriguing character with great potential. I hope that she would visit Ashyn at some point during the second half, though.
  11. But then in RoW art and now in WaT it turned out that Pailiah/Pralla neither looks old, nor was pretending to be an ardent, since her head wasn't shaved. Re: Battar, Taravangian lied in RoW about her warning him about the impending Desolation for some reason. Earlier - in OB? he thought in his PoV that Dova had figured out what the Diagram was doing and forced her way in. There was also previously no hint of them being as close as the WaT scene suggests.
  12. It wouldn't make any sense to me if Jasnah failed to learn the simpler application of Elsecalling for 10 years despite acute need, when Szeth learned it in 1 with a Honorblade, which should have been harder. It barely makes sense that she had been unable to do it at the end of WaT, since she had already transported herself there and back once. There could be a mini-flashback to show her learning to do it consistently and fetching Shallan... Or not. I think that the Sibling and Navani waking up and their bubble coming down is a much more necessary event to happen on-screen, if it ever does. As for Szeth's wife this doesn't fit occasional communications via messages at all: Given that Shinovar is half a continent away over enemy territory, I really don't see any other way how these two women could have come into contact than Jasnah learning to Elsecall over distance in the physical realm, as El's conversation with TOdium proved her order can do. It also seems that Szeth's wife might be another Elsecaller.
  13. I don't recall any of the epigraphs indicating that they're communicating via Elsecalling. How else would they have come in contact, leave alone become a mentor and a disciple? Jasnah is in the Urithiru bubble and Szeth's wife Masha is in Shinovar. As she tells in one of her epigraphs, she is a daughter of the people who had lent him, Kal and Nale their cart and she helped Szeth bury Kal.
  14. 6 years at the very most, probably less. The in-book author of KoWaT is Jasnah's disciple and Szeth's wife according to the epigraphs to chapters 133 and 147. And her account was written 6 years after the events. Which could only mean that Jasnah learned to Elsecall properly some time before that. Frankly, her being unable to pull Shallan out of Shadesmar in the first place seems like a bit of a retcon, because didn't she do exactly that back in WoK?
  15. At the same time, I kept waiting for this breach of unambiguous promise of Odium's to wound Todium. Because the deal between T and ROdium wasn't that T would be given Kharbranth, as he strangely claimed here, but that the city and it's people would be _spared_ by Odium. For me it makes sense that this backlash didn't happen because TOdium saved the people and recreated the city in SR.
  16. Sorry, I looked at their conversation again and Kelsier spoke of a crisis not an incident. Which neither of events you mentioned was for the Ghostbloods, since they chose not to involve themselves. And generally vastly underestimated the Set. There clearly are some Iriali in Bilming, but not a country's worth. IMHO, those are the forerunners and the main migration got caught in the slowness bubble and didn't yet arrive. I have thought since OB that Iriali leaders had known that exodus was at hand and that was one of the reasons why they didn't join the Coalition. Would make sense for them to have sent some scouts ahead. If they were dissident Skybreakers, who were living at the edge of Rosharan Shadesmar, then it would have been possible for them to get out as soon as their spren could leave and not get slowed down too much. In this case, they would have become Ghostbloods after their escape and wholly independently of the Rosharan operation. And Kelsier released purified Dor for use by all Ghostblood cells that could help, so that's what they'd power their abilities with. However, it would have been pretty dumb not to send at least some of them to Bilming, since they could have flown there in time and would have been a lot of help. I hope that they are not Skybreakers, but after WaT a very slim possibility exists.
  17. Yes, but Hoid was... ejected from Roshar either before the slowing started or a couple of minutes in it. Shallan had wandered in Rosharan Shadesmar for a couple of months before contacting Kelsier, when the slowing was at it's strongest. Therefore years passed on Scadrial between Hoid's last appearance in WaT and hers. In their talk, Kelsier mentioned a crisis*, that they had just had, which fits the events of TLM. *I wrote "incident" at first, but the real quote is "crisis".
  18. Jasnah doesn't have to step through an Elsegate herself, though, she can just transport other people. And also, Lift can infuse spheres with her Lifelight, which surely will come into play. And you are right about Wit's Seon Olo, it left the Tower and was going to the Shattered Plains.
  19. I think that it was hinted in "Edgedancer" that Nale had some method of locating a vague area where a Radiant could be found and then used investigation and deduction to pinpoint who it was, as well as a legal pretext for killing them. When Shallan broke her Oaths, whatever "signal" that led him to the Radiants must have disappeared from her. For all we know, he did come to finish the job, only to discover that she was no longer Radiant and go away. It probably happened when Shallan was catatonic, so she is genuinely unaware. It is a bit odd how attached all the kids, including Heleran, were to Chana, though, given her problems. Maybe she used to be genuinely better and started to rapidly deteriorate in the last years before her death? And she had apparently fully adopted Helaran, so he may have loved her for it?
  20. Judging by the epigraph to chapter 133, Jasnah recruited Szeth's wife less than 6 years after the Stormfall, so she must have finally mastered proper Elsecalling sometime during those years. Hoid's Seon should also be in Urithiru, given the precipitous nature of his... departure. So, Shallan should be able to contact them immediately after she acquires Ala. There is also Venli as an outside chance of transport between the realms, but she needs to learn how to do it too. Though, maybe that Husked One joined the listeners to provide some help with that, even though what they do is pretty different from normal Elsecalling.
  21. Axindweth had Mraize's green Aviar with her and the red Aviar whom he had captured together with Lift back in RoW. She must be a trusted associate. And in the prologue we learned that Kelsier was helping Gavilar cause a Desolation. Transporting voidspren to Roshar fits this goal. Chana's death was wholly unplanned, after all. As to her Gold Feruchemy, I dunno. It would be pretty random if she was indeed a full Feruchemist and I'd expect much better combat performance from one who was a Ghostblood. Though if she is from Mistborn era 1, she could have helped make the Bands, I guess. OTOH in such a case she would also be able to use hemalurgy for compounding, which would make her poor showing against Lift even more inexplicable. And she would have been much better employed making more copies of the Bands than running around on Roshar. However, I am glad that Steel Feruchemy is shown to be dangerous if one isn't perfectly focused and coordinated. It would have been too OP otherwise. Speaking of Chana - where are Shallan's brothers? Wit had spirited them out of the Tower for their safety from the Ghostbloods, but it was very weird that Shallan didn't wonder about their whereabouts even once, when watching memories where they appeared in SR. Also, they could be used against both herself and Chana upon her Return, if they are stuck on Retribution's territory. But if they had been in Azimir, I think that at least Balat would have fought... Unless they weren't in the capital... Hm.
  22. Didn't all Oathgate spren turn back into their original form? All of the Oathgates should be permanently disabled. See above, but there is also no reason to think that an uncorrupted Windrunner can use Warlight. Also, all of Urithiru is enclosed in a crystal bubble. On the whole, I can't imagine how Rosharan flora and fauna could survive for years without the sun, under permanent rain and with no highstorms that were necessary for advancing to it's various life stages, as well as lacking the abundance of free-floating investiture that it is adapted to. TRetribution is crazy.
  23. WaT mentioned that Cultivationspren don't contain any Honor, while Honorspren have a little bit of Cultivation in them. She was also training the Nightwatcher - whose name interestingly relates to the Night of Sorrows? Given that I find it difficult to believe that she didn't foresee the eventual possibility of it. And, of course, there is Lift. Who not only doesn't need stormlight, but was also the reason for why Gav was in the Spiritual Realm. I don't see the Intent of Cultivation being compatible with betting on a single outcome. And we know that her power wanted to leave Roshar for a long time. So, Koravellium the person may have preferred the peaceful outcome, which she knew to be temporary anyway, but her Shard could be quite happy with how things fell out.
  24. I was pretty worried after TLM, but I loved WaT, it was a very satisfying end of the first arc, IMHO. I even resisted the urge to peek ahead, as I often do even in the books I enjoy, when the narrative drags a bit. I liked pretty much every plot-line, which is rarely the case for me. I have some quibbles, of course, as I always do, it is not perfect. But then nothing is. My main issue is that Sanderson pulled his punches, while also putting the characters in positions where odds were ridiculously against them. And then noticeably hobbled and nerfed the opposition every step of the way, so that victory would still be possible. Instead of just starting with more reasonable odds and following up with plausible attrition among the characters that have any kind of emotional connection to the readers in order to back up the impression of desperation that he wanted to evoke. I mean, you can't tell me that the battle on the Shattered Plains was desperate and bled the defenders white, but have only one member of Bridge 4 die out of about 30! Ditto only 1 named character dying in Azir, etc. Don't get me wrong, Sigzil's and Adolin's emotional arcs worked quite well, but there was that constant tugging on my willing suspension of disbelief, with nearly all characters that we had even a little reason to care about consistently surviving everything, despite how grueling these battles were supposed to be. Taravangian's and Jasnah's dispute was also better in concept than in execution. I hope that someone asks Sanderson which character "refused" to take the action that he had planned for them. Was it Shallan not heading out into cosmere, or?
  25. I still hope that Felt had his own dagger, because leaving the one issued to Shallan behind with Kalak would have been very dumb. And Felt couldn't have been sure to get access to it when he needed to salvage the mission in any case. Navani still has the one that Raboniel had and was killed with, though. Well, the stormlight-sapping spears of the Fused must also contain Raysium, so it could be looted from the battlefield. But otherwise, I agree. They need to learn how to convert different Investiture types into each other ASAP. Well, during the time gap between the 2 halves of SA at least. But I also wonder what would happen if after removing the Honor's tone from the stormlight, it was overlain with anti-Odium tone. Could it already bring them halfway there? It is also entirely possible and even likely, that gaseous anti-stormlight from the gems can't hurt spren in metallic form and Shallan's fears were overblown. After all, anti-voidlight didn't harm raysium in Raboniel's dagger, as far as we know. I am very curious about what the apostate Fused with Leshwi intended to do about Voidlight. Also, El's Interlude mentioned again that Odium could destroy the Fused who failed him and presumably had done so in the past. So, why did they think that they'd get away with their betrayal for long enough to accomplish anything useful? And doesn't their presence provide him with Connection, where he wouldn't have had one otherwise? And endangers the listeners as a result?
