Why did you redo the actions for every single person? Almost all of them are the same. You could just condense them and list the exceptions.

I think people can be trusted to keep from interfering when people don't want them to. We don't need to make it impossible to ever enter or leave during the plot. Again, we don't need complete separation for different plots in the Alleyverse. One or two different settings? What are you basing those numbers off of? You know, I'll give you that. This is good point, and it works. The OSotW is more suited to plots with smaller areas anyways. I am still curious @Voidus what you found wrong with my North sea plot. I really don't see anything that could be an issue... I think if we do create multiple universes, we need to limit their creation. The worst-case scenario is everyone creating a new universe for a plot and then no one ever using that universe ever again. What if each universe is a separate RP? Characters would be able to travel between them, but they would exist in a different subforum (or subsubforum). The main problem I have with the multiple universes idea is trying to use it to siphon off characters from the Alleyverse. I don't think that will work, especially not if you implement temporal barriers.

I wasn't envisioning anything that large existing. There are natural barriers that prevent travel from happening.

These are all the arguments you've made against me. This is only place where you say that you don't think that the other side of the world can fulfill requirements. Is the main issue for you one of separation, then? If you want a world completely removed from everything, create a new RP. You mention using the Alleyverse as a crossroads universe. This is a sound idea; let different RP's meet at the alleycity, without interfering. I am not opposed to this. You also suggest separating out characters into more separate plots. This is not a bad idea either; less complexity is a good thing. I am not opposed to this either. What I do have a problem with is you using the multiple universes idea to try and solve this problem when a perfectly good solution already exists in the form of the other side of the world. Complexity can be limited to any amount you desire, and could potentially be changed as things progress. So what is the issue with this idea?

@FatherTiempo As a general rule, don't double-post. You can edit your original post if you need to add more information. But no, we won't know how many Southern Scadrians there are. We can guess, though, based on previous games with around this number of players and/or game specific details. Edit. Hey, Fura. I know someone on a FRC team. #2059.

When I said "keep it on the other side" I meant "keep it out of plots that don't involve it." I can still use them in non-Alleycity plots. If we make entirely separate universes, then the barriers between them will never go down. My main arguments: Everything that multiple universes can offer can be offered by the other side of the world. All else equal, keeping things to one world is better than making an uncountable number of them. These are my logical postulates. Which of these do you have a problem with, and why?
-
Y'know, we were thinking about having time differentials on the Alleyplanet that would work in this exact way. To be honest, though, we don't really need them. All we need is a IC reason to deter travel and an OC promise not to interfere. If it's the same as the other side of the world, why not just use that instead of adding the complexity of multiple universes? I'm actually just curious to know what it was. I thought I'd been pretty good with that... If you don't want it to interfere, I can keep it on the other side. It's pretty much isolated anyways. It's not that much harder to isolate than a separate universe would be.
-
As long as travel is possible, then you can just ignore it and say "it happened." If travel is not possible, then it's a separate RP. And what part of the other side of the world "completely contradicts pre-existing canon for the wider Alleyverse?"
-
Absolutely not. I am not giving the DA any more power than it already has. 1.I disagree with the main premise of this wholeheartedly. The main problem with the multiple universes idea is that it would add too much complexity to the RP. We do not need new universes: we can make do with the one we have. That would solve this problem. 2.I have a hard time believing that any guild is going to move out of the main seat of power, which is in the Alleycity. Politically, it makes no sense. If guilds need different settings, they can exist inside the city; I think we were tossing around an idea about zoning the city into different technological levels. 3.If you have trouble with too many plots in the same place, go to the other side of the world. There's plenty of space for plots not to interfere with each other. As for locking down a "vision", that would ruin the idea of adding in new settings and plots on the other side.

Alleycanes. The Alleystorm covers only a fraction of the planet; the rest would be patrolled by various named and unnamed alleycanes. The risk of getting hit by one of those- which would almost certainly take you down- would deter air travel.
-
When does she do that?
-
CR travel doesn't reduce distance. In addition, you basically have to walk, as there isn't a whole lot of transport. It's a valid travel method, but it doesn't make it any easier to get anywhere.
-
Teleportation? Are you talking about Willshaper Transportation? Because that's the same thing as Elsecaller Transportation.
-
That's a fair point, which is why I came up with the idea of it weakening the fabric of space on the alleyplanet. Really, it doesn't matter why they are regulated, only that they are. I'm certain he's keeping track of things, even if it isn't openly used. And buying Aon Tia cards (if it was accepted) would be tied to OC accounts, which are limited. If we get rid of Aon Tia cards, then long distances, physical barriers, and chronological disjunctions should provide enough of a deterrent to travel to allow us to keep things on the Alleyplanet and reduce complexity.
-
See, that's not necessarily true. People have been advocating for the reduction in use of Tia cards, and I think I have a idea on what that would entail, along with the in-world explanation for why it exists. Let's start with the use of Aons on the Alleyplanet. Aons are powered through the Dor, which would normally exist only on Sel, so imagine there's some sort of Dor resevoir that's fed from the main source. It fills up steadily, but slowly. This explains why it was possible for people to drain the Dor enough that the Worldspike barrier failed. Now, Aon Tia cards aren't actually cards; they're unsealed metalminds. The power of the card not only gives the user the power to activate Aons, but also provides the raw power needed to do so. This allows it to work anywhere, not just where you have access to the Dor. However, you need a lot of power to transport someone from one place to another. In addition, the formulas required are incredibly complex, and the only people who really know how to do it live on the Alleyplanet. Making a lot of Aon Tia cards could drain the Dor faster than it could be replenished, especially when the demand for them increases. This could lead to another catastrophic barrier failure. In addition, the fragile nature of Alleyplanet space and time means that every activation of a Tia card further decays the stability of space and time, especially as the distances involved increase. For these two reasons, the powers that be have implemented restrictions on the production and use of Tia cards on the planet surface. How this is implemented out-of-character is simple; we tie Aon Tia cards to the monetary system. Nohadon invented Tia cards in the first place, after all. If we make them expensive, it increases incentive to find other means of transport while not removing them entirely.

Not only would time barriers prevent exploration, but distance and physical barriers would as well. The North Sea is a quarter of the way around the world from the Alleylands, and it is surrounded by a barrier of nigh impossible mountains with a few passes.
-
What do you mean when you say that people should not be able to move easily from setting to setting? What sort of limitations would that apply?
-
What if a plot starts up in a location and I don't have a character there?
-
Why don't we just keep doing that, then? There's plenty of space on the other side of the world.
-
I don't understand... How does having multiple universes help with the problem of remembering where all the characters are?
