  1. "Who knows?" said Gerald, setting them down. "If they are what we truly need at the moment, they aren't showing it right now." @Condensation
  2. "You can try," said Psyder as the pair huddled behind a wall of dark crystal along with its creator. "It can't hurt."
  3. The Myrkaal approached the silver fox- some on foot, some in the air, some flying in with various constructs. The fox responded with a roar, sending a wall of fire roaring towards the attackers. The Myrkaal paused as the wave rolled towards them - moving out of the way, constructing shields, or just taking the blast as they deemed fit. "It has three attacks," calls Psyder. "This is its first. Careful with the fire- it is much harder to extinguish than the average variety."
  4. "Come, Herate," called Psyder, as the Myrkaal began to move. "The fight is beginning."
  5. "Maybe not," replied Gerald. "They might just be metal cubes, nothing more."
  6. Psyder ignored Nath. Around the group, more Myrkaal began to pop into existence in blips of shadow. One waved at Psyder. "Sorry we're late," he called. "There was a barrier around the castle that we had to destroy."
  7. "Not in the immediate area," replied Psyder. "Otherwise the flames would be silver. Like over there." He pointed to a flash of silver in the distance.
  8. "Nonreactive. I.e. it isn't doing anything."
  9. "Hmm," said Psyder. "That seemed worse than usual. You wouldn't know anything about that, would you?"

"Do not worry!" chirped the stone unprompted. "Each game provides a unique new experience that has never been seen before! Or at the very least, no one will remember it. Do not worry, you still have a chance to win!"
  11. After an agonizing aeon being chewed up by the Void, Psyder and Herate were eventually spit out back into reality. Darkness slowly faded around them to reveal a landscape on fire.
  12. Gerald picked one up. His fingers tingled slightly, but nothing else happened. "Well, they seem important," he mused. "But they also seem... inert."
  13. Gerald picked one and wound it up. It jittered along the ground aimlessly. "I doubt it," he said. "Their controller fell into a vat of tomato soup. Without it, they're just toys. But who knows? Fate works in mysterious ways."
  14. "Maybe one of these things is what we need most right now," said Gerald, picking up the anaconda skeleton and looking at it speculatively.

Through the portal is a large hall, extending further than you can see. The side nearest to you appears to be some sort of welcoming area, with a reception desk and a bulletin board on the wall. Every few yards or so on the hall is a square. Within each square stands a team, their banner hanging next to them and painted on the wall behind them. The teams seem to be made of a variety of different people. A couple teams seem to have only one person on them. One, somewhat inexplicably, is an actual house. Your team's banner is painted at the square furthest down the hall. Presumably, this is where you need to stand to begin the match.
