    Mordite. The sword caught in the man's throat. He gurgled, the vines surrounding the wound and healing it. [Hold on to your constituent parts,] TP said. [We're hitting the boosters.] He took a deep breath, closed up his nostrils, and began breathing fire out of his rear end. "The rest of what?" Of course, said the ennuller, accepting the handshake. Bacon also pocketed a sample out of curiosity, then teleported them both back to his castle. "So," he asked, "how'd it go?" Everyone is above ground right now.

    "Well last time they didn't stay dead," muttered Bacon. "But anyways. Shall we return to the castle?" The thing is, the vines were wrapped all the way around the armor in knots- even if the armor was slippery, it would have to pass through the vines in order to slip free. The pale man lunged at Tam, heedless of his own safety, putting all of his will into piercing her with his sword. The woman tried to scream, but her lungs were full of solid matter. After a few moments, her body burned to black, a withergeist rising from the corpse.

    The pale man ran his sword through the armor where Tam had been just moments before. "Just stay still and die," he growled, trying to step on her to keep her in place. The man smiled creepily. "Ah, but I have died. I can show you death, if you wish." The voice of a withergeist began to whisper in Asher's mind, pushing to be let in. The woman clawed at the sword, trying to rip it from Pyk's hands.

    The man grunted in surprise as he was run through. He inhaled, pulling in withergeists, but Conflict glowed in the wound, preventing it from healing. "Well, you wouldn't want your enemies getting reanimated, would you?" Bacon quickly checked on the man Cricket had been fighting to make sure he was still dead. Should he come back? And I don't know about that, Ennulling can block pretty much anything. The woman was slammed backwards through the air.

    Ah, yes The vines began to pulse, feeding on the energy. The man struck forward with his sword. "Neat!" said Bacon. "Uh... it wouldn't have picked up my healing Narration, would it? Last time that happened, there were... side effects."

    "Even the immortal will die," said the man. "Die and pass into the void. Is this not beautiful?" He didn't take him anywhere; just showed up where he was at. Which I guess is the Soul World. "What is this place?" Bacon asked Cricket, looking around. As in, you PM'd it to me? @Through The Living Glass, did you respond here?

    Wait, wasn't he in some other place? "Good is an illusion," the man said. "All things will be destroyed, in the end." I'm gonna need to read that backstory again...

    So Tenth is an Ennuller, full stop? And this is a recent development? One of the guards that had crawled out of the hole lunged towards Asher, mordite blade glinting darkly. Wait what do you mean

    The guard didn't seem to have much sympathy for Sequence, lunging at her with a sword. Sorry, I don't understand it either. I think what he means is a rogue Ennuller, like Ciara. Although... @SpiritOfWrath, what is the exact nature of Tenth's state?

    "They got it wrong again!" said Bacon the Bard severely. "You have to say my full name, or it doesn't work!" He glanced at Cricket. "Oh dear." He snapped his fingers and Cricket was healed. He glanced at the withergeist floating in the air. It hissed. Bacon hissed back, then flashed a bright light in its face. It shrank back, fleeing. "Hmm. Hopefully meeting that withergeist doesn't count as 'getting involved'. Oh well." He looked at Cricket. "Shall we return to the castle?" The man wrapped the grenade in vines and deflected it into the ceiling, ducking. The explosion blew out the top of the dome, but it quickly grew over. Vines began to grow around and onto the armor.

    The sword sank into the pale man's flesh, then black vines began to grow out of where the sword had pierced. They held the sword in place. The pale man yanked his arm backwards, trying to throw Tam off-balance, and struck again. The woman glared at him. "Die," she spat, and attacked.

    Tam and the pale man. Not at all! Remember, Narrators can literally wish anything they desire into reality. Hard to get much more powerful than that.

    The vines grew to form a dome around the pair. The pale man lunged at Tam with his sword.

    She felt the pale man's utter devotion to the cause of ending everything. Jilu is still on the battlefield, where Platypus just made his big announcement. Pyk is with the dragon, yes? It swung at the woman, who attempted to bite it. However that goes is yet to be decided, but I doubt it will end well for her. The man growled and made a motion with his hands. Vines began to grow from the ground in all directions around Tam.

    Two more guards crawled up out of the hole, each armed with a mordite blade. One charged at Sequence, the other at Asher. @Sequence @The sarcasm spren The man extended his hands, launching vines to wrap around Tam. "You will not stop me!" he snarled. "I will return the Witherlord to this world!" The man gave one last final scream and died. A dark spirit ripped its way free of his body as he did so, face a melted reflection of his own.

    "I can protect you against Madness for as long as you remain within my realm," Onyx continued. "I can perhaps grant you protection for a brief time outside it. That is all."

    "Attack them!" the pale man screamed, spittle flying from the corners of his mouth.

    Fortunately for Nogard, this message completely passed him by. Nogard wavered. "I... never meant for anyone to die..." [That stings,] TP complained. He dove down, attempting to scoop up Nogard from where he stood, then began to accelerate away. The rest of the party would have to fend for themselves. "What's waking up?" asked Selppaenip urgently. Not... exactly. We have heard that these two new Plotblades pose an existential threat to the Thread. As custodians of the Thread's welfare, we feel we ought to be made aware of the precise nature of these mysterious artifacts. Wasn't Gail on TP's back? The pale man exploded from the hole, face twisted into a rictus snarl. Vines were covering his face, growing into and out of every orifice. With a snarl, he launched himself at Tam. The woman hissed and attempted to bite the dragon. The sword pierced directly through the man. The withergeists screamed in chorus, a deeply unsettling sound, and fled. @Sequence @Nameless @TwinStorm @The Halcyon Girl @Through The Living Glass I accidentally submitted too early so I went back and edited.

    I didn't say she was smart The pale man strode after him, vines carrying him like a thousand legs.

    The woman cursed. She threw herself at Pyk, biting, scratching, and kicking. The guard raised his sword, but was caught off guard. He staggered backwards. The man grabbed Cricket's throat and began to squeeze. The pale man whirled, screaming in fury. Vines sprung out from his hands, rushing up the walls and grabbing at their ankles. They would probably run into Beosta and Shoe fleeing in the opposite direction. As for really sad/shocking... the pale man has been sacrificing people one by one for the past day or so in order to attempt his ritual.

    Nope "I..." Nogard shook his head. "We can't trust that the trial will be fair. The Brave Adventurer... he's trying to turn you against the Great Wizard." [We need to get going,] grumbled TP. [Do you want me to leave you behind?] A few arrows glanced off of TP's scales. A couple stuck in his wings, but were quickly shaken free. "What was that?" asked Selppaenip, continuing to shake him. The Ennuller seemed perturbed by this. Did he give any indication as to where he went? "Hey!" said one of the guards. "What do you think you're doing?" The woman kept her grip on the weapon as it was insubstantiated, twisting it to attempt to cut Pyk's hand. The guard swung his sword to block, but wasn't quick enough to avoid being stabbed. He grunted, pulling withergeists into himself to heal, and struck back. The man gasped, sword clattering from his hand. It takes a form that is capable of defeating your opponent. I imagine it would try to take a form that was synergistic with the abilities of the user. You have tasted power, before... it was delicious... The one guard that noticed will be on Shoe.
