"Alright!" said Bacon. "Let's go save the world." Withergeists swirled around the mountain.

    "My Author. He loves speaking with wind. Does it all the time." "I have no idea," said Bacon, curious. He stepped over and hefted the sword, trying to determine what it was with his NarratorSenses. "Maybe it's a call to action!" Bacon smiled, watching their reunion. "And who might you be?" asked Charnyx. Charnyx pursed his lips, but withdrew his hand. "Very well. If you would like, we may withdraw to my organization's base of operations."

    "Not a bad band name, that," said Bacon, dancing sideways through space into a place where the sky could become vanilla pudding if it wanted to. "A band of companions, of course! Seeking to improve the world. Through music!" "Greetings!" said Bacon the Bard. "Have we met?" Bacon sniffed. "Well now. That's just rude." Charnyx's hand remained extended. "We hold many ancient and forgotten secrets of the Great One. Surely there is some aspect of the ritual unknowable to any but us, his true believers." "Excellent!" said Bacon. The scene snapped into focus, Ben appearing in the alleyway where Atlas and Bacon sat resting.

    Bacon coughed. "Anyways... good luck with your secret underground daycare. Remember, it's Bacon the Bard! Have a splendiferous daaay!" He made a judicious exit from the situation.

    "Oops. That wasn't said out loud, was it? Ignore that part."

    "A person of good taste." Bacon whistled a bacon donut into existence. "Your text color is also immaculate." "Boring? Whatever could you mean? And you are very welcome."

    "I'm a Narrator; I simply dreamed it into existence! I hope it is to your liking."

    "No reason in particular. Say, would you be interested in helping me form a band?" "Nice to meet you, Isabel! May I interest you in a bacon donut?" "Just reach right here for the doorknob." I have info up to Page 3720. Though if you can give me a specific range outside of that I can probably get it for you. Charnyx snorted. "What can they do, now that we have the Page? You defeated Bacon once before, to obtain this. Surely you are not afraid of him." He extended his hand. "Nonetheless. We will give you the protection of secrecy, if you wish it. And we will help you prepare for the ritual. May I see the Page?"

    "Bacon the Bard, at your service!" "Something bad," said Bacon. "Tell me, have you ever had any aspirations of being a hero?" Oooh, secrets. "Anything for the return of the Great One," said Charnyx calmly. Bacon painted a new door into place. "Hawks, is that a good idea?" called Bacon.

    "The world happened, I'm afraid," said Bacon. The image of Atlas and Bacon in the alleyway strengthened. "Currently, she is with another one of me." "That seems like somewhat of a violent thought," whispered Bacon. "What did he ever do to deserve that?" "Very well, then. If you ever have need of my services again, simply utter my name three times!" Bacon turned to Eden. "Now, I hear that you were in a band before?" @edgyswordname

    Legend. "He shall fail," said Charnyx. New pictures of Atlas arose- her crying, her asleep in the alleyway.

    "Ah. A revenge situation, I presume?" Bacon shook his head sympathetically. "Well, if there's nothing else you need me for, I'll be happy to leave you and your children in peace." A hooded figure materialized. "...at long last." I know there was at least one scene for this guy but the Thread is so long gosh darn it Does anyone remember where that one time I hid something behind a ridiculous number of pages was? Images of Atlas appeared around them. "Yep," said Bacon. "I sure was. We're best buds!" "No, he didn't die- although I'm sure a part of him wishes he had. Not much fun, being locked up in a castle forever. That's part of why I exist, you know- a Narrator that Fate could send forth, one not burdened with the weight of the past."

    "Xino was the original Narrator of the Author Fate, followed by Narrator Phoenix. At least, that's what the records say!" Bacon paused. "If I may ask- what were they like, those original Narrators?" "Think, my friend! That is what this place is for, after all." "He smiled, once. I don't think he has in a long time." "Indeed. Who were they, anyhow? They seemed awfully angry."

    "Why not both?" said Bacon. "Here, sign my bow." He offered his violin bow. "I must say, it is an honor! Am I correct in my understanding that you knew the original Narrator of my Author?"

    "Tell me. Why are you trying to kill me again?" "Are you familiar with Onyx?" "Greetings!" said Bacon the Bard with a bow. "Actually, I happen to have a world of hamsters in my Bacon castle, if that counts for anything. I strive to remember my roots. Speaking of which, may I have your autograph?"

    As the pair fell, thoughts began to pop into existence around them. For Bacon, it was mostly bacon. For Ben... "Fight him? Of course. Maybe even beat him. It's been done before. The question is... what will it cost, this time?" "Done! All gone."

    "Something happened," said Bacon. "I'm afraid we'll have to jump straight to the tricky part. Follow me." He stepped backwards, falling down a hole. "He knows how to summon the Witherlord, now," answered Bacon. "Undoubtedly he will try to do so."

    What, did it not work? "Yes!" exclaimed Bacon. "Let the music flow through you!" Suddenly, the music stopped. Bacon gently redirected Atlas's warp back to the (relatively) safe alleyway. "That's what I'm afraid of," he said quietly, staring up into the night sky.

    Bacon strained, every fiber of his being manifesting his will. For a moment, the page seemed to pull towards him. And then Malevolence's hand closed around it. Reality returned. Bacon knelt in the rubble that had once been a world. Rain trickled in through a crack in the ceiling. Evidently, Malevolence's bomb had been strong enough to damage the vault after all. And the page was gone. Bacon closed his eyes. Everyone... I'm sorry.

    "I could make that work, I suppose." Bacon sneezed, sending the chained attackers to random battles somewhere else.

    "Eye of the Tiger" by survivor began playing from the boomboxes. Bacon opened with a salvo of moves in sync with the opening beats. "Look. We're very sorry- are you sure there isn't anything we can do for you? We'd hate to leave you with a bunch of angry spear-wielding maniacs at your doorstep." No! The page drifted towards Malevolence. I was commanded by the author himself! willed Bacon furiously. Previous holder of this awful power, convinced it should never again be wielded! I bear his will that this page be protected. The page slowed. I am the heir of Fate! willed Bacon desperately. This page- and all that would be wrought thereby- is MINE! The page stopped, almost close enough to brush Malevolence's fingers. Balanced between their wills, torn between duty and destiny, it fluttered.

    "I see! I'm glad we took the time to clear that up. Do you want us to clean up these intruders for you?" ...with Bacon? "He speaks!" said Bacon. "Does that mean you accept my challenge?" No. No, Bacon wasn't going to let that happen. He might not have Narration any longer, but he was still Bacon the Bard. And that page was his to protect. He extended his hand. In this strange, unreal space, the usual rules of reality no longer seemed to apply. But perhaps... I am a writer of stories. I am a guardian of laughter. I was given the task of protecting this page. It belongs to ME. As his will - his claim - rippled outward, unreality itself responded. The page grew steadily closer and closer to Bacon, and further and further from Malevolence.

    "Very well," said Bacon, lowering his hat. "You leave me no choice. I challenge you... to a dance battle." The windows went dark. A disco ball dropped in from above, and funky music started to play. Before he could finish the words, his mouth was wrapped in tape. "Don't say it!" hissed Bacon, looking around nervously.

    @NameIess Bacon crafted a world of stories. It was a simple plan, in essence. Create a thousand different plausible locations for the Page to be, and force Malevolence to go through each and every one of them. A shell game with a thousand cups, as it were. Here a young farmhand discovering a power he didn't know he possessed; there the ancient scion of a dying house seeking to restore their former glory; yonder, a young girl struggling to choose a suitor. Evil was impatient. Malevolence would try to cheat, of course, but Bacon was prepared for that. He would try to use logic and technology- which would, of course, fail miserably. Bacon couldn't hope to destroy him, of course; but then, he didn't need to. All he needed to do was distract him. And no one was better at being distracting than Bacon. Stall him for long enough, and he would give up. It was only a matter of time- Wait. What was he doing? "Wait, no-" said Bacon. Reality shattered. Light and dark and order and chaos exploded forth. The shield around Malevolence turned to steel. Then to glass. Then to birds. Then to dust. Bacon's world crumbled. A thousand stories, each cut short. One by one, his clones were speared through with shafts of power and simply... ceased to exist. The page began to hum in Bacon's hands. He looked down. It was... glowing? The sound got louder and louder and then suddenly, all was quiet. Bacon blinked. Where... was he? Why couldn't he feel his Narration? Around him was... nothing. A void without color or shade. Across from him hovered Malevolence, all his devices stripped away. Between them both was the Page.
