  1. This was, in fact, entirely false. The Darkbeast was merely teleporting away to another place. As a being with a measure of chaotic darkness, if purified enough Derka could indeed form a weapon capable of slaying the Witherlord. I have also read that book.
  2. "We did not expect that you would confront the Witherlord. Nor that he would be as set on destroying X as he seems to be." Quarkbeasts are from a book, though.
  3. "We unbind it. Or, of course, you finish the survey." The Witherlord is highly skilled with transmutation.
  4. "If he had killed you, we would have revived you. As the survey is bound to your soul, so you are bound to it."
  5. "I fail to see how this is relevant," the consultant replied. "I would note that he was not able to break our handiwork in binding X's remains to you."
  6. "We're still in the brainstorming phase," the consultant replied. He wants me to die, the survey wrote.
  7. "We hope to rid the world of him, eventually," the consultant said. "His power is too great." Moni, wrote the survey. I... don't want to die.
  8. "Besides the one that brought him to us? No. I doubt he expected a schism in the ranks of the mimes." The survey shuddered.
  9. "What do you mean? X left the Witherlord alone, for the most part."
  10. The survey felt... strange. Very strange. "That is X," the consultant confirmed. "As much as anything is." Can you edit stuff in?
  11. "Yes. Although we could not, of course, kill X directly. That would earn us the ire of Fate, which would be a hindrance to our plans."
  12. "Indeed. We saw... an opportunity. The mimes rely on X. We do not." The survey felt... strange.
  13. "When X was attacked," the consultant explained, "a piece of him fled down a path he had prepared earlier. That path ended here."
  14. "What you choose to do is of little business to us. If you had died, we would have resurrected you. We will answer your questions, but only under oath not to not speak of them outside of this room."
  15. The Witherlord froze Spectra's attempt at transmutation in the blink of a thought. The Darkbeast remained. "You came here from the Silent Realm," the nameless consultant stated. "The land of the mimes."
  16. The nameless consultant studied her impassively.
  17. A crack opened up in reality and pulled her through. It is a lesser Quarkbeast. The transmutation was complete. Light become Darkness, Quarkbeast become Darkbeast. It let out a hungry sound like the grinding of a trash compactor. It was ready to destroy.
  18. Dyrlings are beings of light and chaos. The Witherlord observed the vibrating elements of power that composed the Quarkbeast. Fundamental forces of Light and Chaos, vibrating in harmony. But he could change that. He reached for the power of Light within the Quarkbeast and began to transmute it.
  19. The Witherlord extended a finger of power into the Quarkbeast. It was a dyrling of some sort, but an unsually powerful one. Curious.
  20. The Witherlord walked up to one of the Quarkbeasts. Message Sent, the survey showed.
  21. The survey noted that it could contact the consultants if needed.
  22. "Ah, yes." The Witherlord swirled his hand and summoned a withergeist. Its eyes were empty, allowing one to see inside its vacant head cavity. "A maregeist," the Witherlord explained. "Proficient in mental illusions, less so in physical destruction. I trust you'll find it useful."
  23. "Remind me what he did to you again?" The mime shrugged. I wouldn't know. Did they give you anything to keep in contact?
  24. Yes. Try to figure out what they know about what happened to X.
