Official Dawnshard Reaction Thread
Cheat Commando replied to Truthless of Shinovar's topic in Stormlight Archive
I've been looking for an appropriate spot to say the following: THE DAWNSHARDS WERE THE WEAPONS THAT KILLED ADONALSIUM!! AAAHHHH!!! There are four of them?? Cool! I loved Lopen's arc in this story! Also, I want more Huio. Lopen's Third Ideal was perfect. That epilogue was sheer gold. I am so excited for Rysn's interlude now! I usually don't care. Man, I hope she figures out how to use her new power (even though she kinda promised not to...). Are the Sleepless going to be featured in every in-between novella? I hope so! I can't wait for Horneater! -
Don't forget Gavinor!!
-
I am inclined to believe it is duralumin as well. If it ends up being chromium, I'll be disappointed, but I'll get over it.
-
If there is something like this, perhaps each Brand is associated with a particular Passion, a specific desire they must continually nurture and feel?

Kaladin and Shallan’s stagnation and continued regression
Cheat Commando replied to Vasherin's topic in Stormlight Archive
I very much agree with this point right here. When Veil said, "Shallan, you gotta deal with this other thing from your past," I was very confused. But on the other hand, something had to attract Pattern to her initially, so there's gotta be something there, something that hasn't been revealed to us. I think the drudgery we're feeling has to do with the fact that we're reading this at a rate of one chapter a week. Once we get the book in our hands, we can speed read over the parts we do not enjoy so much, getting to the parts we do want, until we get to the big reveal and find out that Shallan's 2nd big secret actually makes sense and we realize we should reread her parts of the book again and pay attention this time. This is my hope at least. I trust Brandon Sanderson to deliver a quality story. These chapters are laying the ground work for the rest of the book; they are NOT the book. I fully expect to reach the end of this book and say, "Oh! I get why this wasn't revealed in Words of Radiance." I trust Brandon, as the amazing author that he is, to work his magic well. Hope this helps. -
My vote on the black sphere is that it's an Unmade. I hope to see more of Gavinor in the back 5, but a scene I really want to see is Adolin and Gavinor talking about revenge. Hopefully, Adolin can explain to him how taking someone else's life in cold-blood isn't what it's cracked up to be.

A different take on "Formless"
Cheat Commando replied to Cheat Commando's topic in Stormlight Archive
Shoot, thanks to you both! -
I have my own crackpot theory on Shallan's origin.... It's pretty bizarre, but it fits with a few of the clues we've been given (but not all) Shallan's red hair is attributed to her "impure lineage" Shallan's mother calling her "one of them" Her time as a starving street urchin (if you believe in that line from OB when she touched the Heart of the Rebel and became a starving street urchin. I believe that was calling upon an actual memory) She is Lin's biological daughter She refers to this dark, unwanted personality as "Formless" Here's the theory: Shallan is the daughter of Lin Davar and a parshwoman. She was not welcomed in the home, especially as a half-breed, and so lived on the streets. She was Formless, just like her biological parshwoman mother, until SOMETHING happened. Perhaps she got a spren (or an Unmade) in her gemheart that helped reestablish her missing Connection, and then she would sneak into the Davar gardens and pretend to be loved there. Or maybe she had enough sense from her human sDNA to think for herself and still sneak into the gardens and pretend to be loved. These lies attracted Pattern to her, she gained the ability to Lightweaver (and Soulcast) and transformed herself into the "human" known as Shallan Davar. Lin and his first wife knew the truth (and maybe Helaran?), but the other brothers welcomed Shallan without a problem, because they were still young, innocent and impressionable. Anyway, the fact that singers can take different "forms" was the key behind my thoughts. What do y'all think? Holes: doesn't take into account Veil's diminished color-sense (which I think is significant) Doesn't explain why the rest of her family is messed up Doesn't involve the Ghostbloods

Ouch!!!!

Aw, man

Oh man, maybe that's why the parshlady of Hearthstone was on the lookout for plaguespren. She might have thought it was to avoid disease, but really it was because Raboniel wants them to make plague-rials. Also, from the first chapter: Sounds like Raboniel already started...

You sparked this idea in me: what if Leshwi and Venli are exactly the same? They both want the same thing, but both are afraid to admit it to the other?
-
My bad! Didn't see that!
-
Ah! Brandon, why do you torture me so? You can't just say, "Oh, logicspren are important," and expect me to be okay waiting another week to find out why!! Crazy idea: logicspren can be used in tiny fabrials linked together to make logic gates like those in a circuit board. (AND, OR, XOR) Hooray for being a double agent! I wonder who will be kidnapped by Venli... What if it's Lift? Trapping the Fused in gemstones sounds like a good idea to me. Trap them all and put them in a safe and throw it in the ocean. Hope they figure out how. I didn't really like Leshwi until this chapter. Chills went up my spine when Raboniel announced her plot to invert Urithiru

Cosmere Predictions for Chapter 15
Cheat Commando replied to honorblades's topic in Stormlight Archive
I certainly hope it's Zahel. I was extremely disappointed not to see him in Oathbringer. -
Nononononononono! If this comes to pass, I will probably cry for hours. If Adolin dies in this way (or any way really), I will be very, very sad. But even as I read your comment, I got chills up and down my spine... Which for me generally means I see the connection now that you pointed it out.

I can accept that they don't know the Allomantic alloy for steel, but if so, why would whatever they call steel be able to change polarity? The only thing that seems to reconcile that discrepancy is that the Ch. 10 epigraph has some sort of typo. Basically I read today's epigraph (11), got excited when I learned about iron and attractors, and then ended up extremely confused. :/

I agree. I had the impression that it was related to Selish magic. I know Sel is far away, but it sounds just like it to me.
-
Just saw Tenet! Want to watch it again! I can't wait until it becomes available to purchase so I can watch, pause, and rewind (or, dare I say, invert?). But something bugs me... When the Protagonist is inverted, fighting against his past, non-inverted self, why does he try pull the trigger on his gun? Was that an accident during their scuffle? Was he simply trying to maintain space-time continuity?

Ah, I was reading too fast the first time. I see what you're talking about.

I am incredibly glad that Kaladin was taken off of active duty. He has not been given the chance to decompress since.... Well, since following Tien and joining the army. I'm a Kaladin fan, through and through, so I'm very eager to see his story in this book. I am also surprised Navani didn't get at all curious about the lift generated from the wings of the pod. Yay for tin! Confused about steel and iron.

Man, Renarin stepping in to save the day was beautiful. I can't wait to describe that scene to my wife, but I have to finish explaining Oathbringer first. I am almost bummed that bronze does what bronze does. I'm happy to have another piece to the puzzle, but it messes up my Grand Unified Theory of Metals that I've been working on in my notebook for the past week.

Current theory regarding Restares: Kelsier. Who else would be interested in traveling between worlds? This could be one reason why we never see him. He's not there and he can only communicate with the Sons of Honor via the Cosmere Postal Service.
But Thaidakar could also be Kelsier. Who's more Ghostbloody than him?

I concur; she's not there yet, but heading that way. I also hope with all my heart that Adolin is there for her when she hits that bottom. I'm not saying he's gonna fix everything, but I hope he chooses to to stick it out with her and be by her side instead of taking the easier way out and abandoning her. Adolin has risen to being one of my favorite characters, so I hope he fights the good fight.
