  1. Yes. It is simply a very good book. Followed by another very good book. etc. Read it. You won't regret it.
  2. Doppler effect does affect light, as well as sound. Anything which behaves as a wave can experience it. It is only observable in distant light, from galaxies which are accelerating away from or towards earth. The huge velocities involved mean that the light is compressed or stretched - and since colour is determined by the wavelength of the light, shifts the colour away. In fact, it is due to this acceleration that we know that the universe is expanding away from itself - and is doing so at an accelerated rate. This is perplexing, since over time, it should decellerate. This points towards some other force in the universe, causing it to accelerate apart. We have named this force due to "Dark Matter/Energy". However, since the "Perfect Colour" identification, tells the exact hue of the colour, and this hue will Shift slightly, even if it is by a millionth of a metre of wavelength, whenever a person accelerates away from you, the colour is actually shifting. This means thats the colour is changing by a very slight amount. Does the 3rd heightening provide the hue of the material "At rest"? Even if it is accelerating away? in which case, the observation of far galaxies on Nalthis, could be interesting, since it would allow one to accuratly calculate the distance of far galaxies, without relying on pulsars or nova or other such standard, meaning that the starnavigation of Nalthis will be highly advanced. Given the requirement of specific distances, for the use of some transportation magics, it could be very useful, and might allow someone with access to both Selish and Nalthis magics to "Worldhop" while bypassing Shadesmere.
  3. I discovered a Waterstones Voucher I had misplaced. So I went on a bit of a spree. Having never read anything by Neil Gaiman, I bought: American Gods Anansi Boys Neverwhere Fragile Things Smoke and Mirrors. Stardust is in the Mail. All books I recognise, but never ever read. Thoughts?
  4. Wierd. I would hacve thought "Densities" would be Sacrial - since its connections to metals... But I suppose "Vapor" could refer to the mists? Perhapes "Vapors" is the Roshar Translation of "Mists"? So literally: World of Mists --> Scadrial World of Colours --> Nalthis ----- World of the Broken (Sky and storm being important in Roshar Culture?) That fits with odium being called "The Broken One" although that might not refer to him.
  5. What's the overall consensus on Kingkilller?
  6. I have had too many books ruined by a "The ending is what the reader makes of it" BS cop out to believe this.
  7. I have a feeling "No One Mourns the Wicked" could apply to the Lord Ruler... And I can easy imagine him having a "The Let Me Be Evil" moment at some point in his life...
  8. A Prison... For things *Other* than Odium? OOOOOOHHHH.......... Calling it RIGHT now. In the next 20 Years time, when the Stormlight Archive is over, the Cosmere Crossovers are in abundance, there will be an epic twist moment when a character warps to Braize. It will be a moment, like the ending of Words of Radiance. When everyone who's up to date in the COsmere goes. "WHAT THE ...." O_O. In order to trap something else. Some Bigger Bad. Calling it now. Just saying.
  9. Well, this is awesome. Can't say I've caught up on the Manga yet. Only seen the anime. (Although I have apparently identified the Armoured-Titan, [One of my friends has read ahead] but not the Colossal one. I am starting to think it must be a minor character.) It is a brilliant series though. Kinda makes me want to know what Brandon thinks of it as well. Just for comparison. I agree. It makes it *very* interesting. I have been trying to think of how a Soulbearer would use their abilities on Scadrial. While we see plenty of uses for the metal on a Cosmere level, (Storing Breaths, holding Stormlight, possibly acting as a mobile Dor, etc) how would the power even be discovered on Scardrial? A Feruchemist, storing their Feruchemy, would logically be unable to access it again, unless they also happened to be Nicroburst Allomancer, would be able to compound it back. Possibly becoming a more powerful Feruchemist at the same time? The answer, lies in Hemelurgy. Give a Soulbearer a spike, store it, remove the spike, and then regain the gift. The feruchemist now "Bears" a piece of the spiked "Soul". Hence the name. But if this were not only used to gain abilities, but also Human Strength, and Intelligence? Tapping and Storing an entire side of oneself away sounds... Awesome. While I suspect it could be dangerous, I think that seeing as the Koloss *Can* survive being a Koloss, despite their size eventually causing their heart to give out, that the result would be that, as long as the Koloss wasn't *too* big, you;d survive. Possibly by tapping less and less as time goes on.
  10. Okay, so here is my idea. We know that Hemelurgy can be used to steal Human Physical traits, but doing so creates aberrations in the form of a Koloss. But. What if the recipient of these spikes, was a feruchemist, and could store the Traits gifted? Either in a Pewter Metalmind, or as a last reserve, Nicrosil? Storing the investiture itself? I think that this would allow for a human, to seemingly Shift INTO a Koloss form. Since Koloss' strength doesn't vanish over time, I think this would be permanent, until it was stored back in the Metalmind. It is possible that while stored, it would "bleed" out, like a hemelurgic spike, but it might also be possible to use feruchemy to not only retain different forms, but also avert the Investiture Decay of Hemelurgic spikes. It could also be used to store remove the spike, once the ability was stored safely. Any thoughts?
  11. Even if it wasn't, the nuclear analysis of Atium would certainly be a major breakthrough - since it would allow one to study the spiritual properties of Atium, by comparison to its mundane counterpart - if indeed, Atium isn't its own element. Basic rule of Physics. If you can't see something, strip away everything you can see, and observe the shadow of what remains.
  12. "Devour Everything." And See what happens.
  13. I can imagine the nuclear synthesis of Atium would be a pretty sweet plot point in the Sci-Fi era of Mistborn.
  14. I am thinking, that we will be seeing Scardrial's version of the "Fabrial", but powered on allomancy, and feruchemically charged pieces of metal, rather than stormlight.
  15. Wow. This is outrageous. I have never heard a school visit, from ANYONE, where the assembly would be gender-segregated. Especially when the vister was doing an assembly/lecture on their profession and experiences. This is simply shocking. Can you imagine if a veteran, or rock musician or something stereotyped as being "Male" had visted in the school, and female students were excluded? There would be cries of sexism from all directions! But here, a school! A Place of learning. A Place of KNOWLEDGE! Has the decrepit archaic viewpoint? Not to mention how professionally insulting it must be as an author to be told that they didn't expect half the audience to be interested. Wow. This actually make me angry.
  16. I have been playing with Guild Wars 2 - I like the idea of an MMO that I only have to pay for once, to get a good quality game - and the IN game currency MicroTrans-Shop, can bought with IN-Game Gold, and vice versa, via an actually FAIR exchange. Which is something. Other than that, BF4 is always fun. I have Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings, and Darksiders for a while, but no Controller - and I don't want to play THOSE games on Keyboards.
  17. SWEET! These look cool!
  18. damnation. I am stuck in Wales at the moment... I wonder if he'd do a trip to Cardiff? Or Swansea?
  19. Have you guys seen the UK/European covers? I like the mystery they all have. And the way that all the Cosmere Novels have linking artistic themes.
  20. I think I enjoyed Hathren too much to really dislike Elantris, though of all the books, its probably the least polished. I would have to go with the shorts. because they are too short.
  21. I would Take up Odium... I think I could keep its Anger focused long enough... And its trait would provoke someone else into eventually Defeating me... And Thereby passing it onto a new Holder, before I could become completely corrupted by its intent... Zero Requiem Style...
  22. I would be happy to see Any Sanderson adapted into *Anything*. I think the Emperor's Soul could be adapted into Theatre rather well... And I KNOW Elantris has a few fantasy Cliche's in it - but that would make it ideally suited to a Musical Adaption... Meh. I am slipping into madness at this point...
