I know Brandon keeps saying Urithiru isn't a spaceship, but I'm not sure I really believe him. Those lift gates and even the lever just scream future tech.

[In my life there are 2 things I lose all self control with: pizza and books. Was going to make a comic, but too lazy. So I write instead. Enjoy? I'm sure some of you who read digitally relate! Also I mention Dawnshard in passing, but there's no content discussion and thus no spoilers.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monday, Nov 16th 11:59 pm All is quiet, all is dark. You sleep is comfort. Tuesday, Nov 17th 12:00am A delicate *chirp* breaks the silence. Across the room, a screen lights up briefly. You know what it says. You break out in a cold sweat.....then, with a deep breath, close your eyes. As the screen fades and darkness scuttles backs around, there's a moment of calm....but only a moment. "Read me," the dark whispers in your ear. You ignore it. It laughs at you. "READ ME." You roll out of bed and glare at your device. "I have to be at work in a few hours. I need sleep." "Just a few chapters. A few....minutes." Your laugh is edged with hysteria. "Like that EVER works." "You could just read the Epilogue." "What? NO that's a terrible idea!" "You don't need alllllll that sleep. You can spare a few hours." "Uh, ok, NO. I might have been tempted... EXCEPT for your little friend here!" You point accusingly at an innocent novella. "Hello!" Dawnshard says cheerfully. "Would you like to destroy some brains today?" "Remember that wreck of a night? Binge reading till 2 am? Gibbering in lore? Trying to post on the Shard? I think I wrote things in my sleep. And I was a mess the next morning." "Yesssss.....but what FUN it was." "No no no no no, I am too old for this. I actually like sleeping now. Sleep is amazing." "Hmmm....There's always another secret.....I will give you truths. And I know some juicy ones." "D-d-don't you dare throw quotes at me!" Quotes and images begin to assault you from all sides with increasing speed, drowning out your logic. Journey before destination. I am a stick. Why is there a wall? I'm broken. The sky and the winds are mine. I will rise a better man. Tight butt. Axelicious bloke. Bridgemen aren't suppose to survive. For glory lit, and life alive. Tuesday, Nov 17th 12:01am You whimper slightly, staring at the device across the darkened room. Your hand trembles. ...What will the morning bring?

The Pied Piper of Hearthstone scene? Very nice.

What I found interesting was that they had to go to a specific place to bond. The Luckspren were with the ship for a long time, I don't think they were specifically an Aimian type. But why go all the way to Aimia to bond? Maybe it's like animals from our world who travel thousands of miles each year to roost/mate/feed at very specific spot?

So in searching for golden imagery, I'll add the scene from Dalinar's weirdest/most interesting vision in Oathbringer: I always felt there was some super deep parable going on here. I guess it's symbolic about the cost of having principles, since that's what they are arguing about and are having trouble getting the grain to balance.

Rysn said Change felt like "resignation" and "confidence" and "understanding". I'm leaning away from similar groupings and more towards 4 shards creating something much more complex. Like rock + tree + snake + stream = forest. The Whole is only revealed when the parts are together. On their own they lack context.
-
I'm going with minor character cut for length.....but yeah, weirdly cut. Why not remove altogether? I mean we got so little information here could honestly be anyone: sleepless, ghostblood, Hoid, totally normal person.

We also learned that Jasnah (and I think it implied all Elsecallers?) can see through illusions. Lopen mentions it when trying to figure out if a Lightweaver is on board.

I had the same thought. I wonder if Dawnshard Commands can be embedded in a variety of objects, such as the mural. If a picture, why not words? Or a song for that matter? But if that's the case....why Dalinar? Or Rysn for that matter? Were they chosen? Does a Dawnshard join with just anybody or does it require a Connection element? Both Rysn and Dalinar were also in the process of reinventing and changing themselves. There may be something to that as well.

After calming down from having my brain turned inside out from the end game stuff of this novella, I remembered stuff I liked from earlier in the story. 1) Rysn and Lopen bonding. Discussions about life with a physical disability. The joy of Rysn having a network of women who understand her life situation. Brandon's really good at taking a complete fantasy realm and still making it relatable to our lives. 2) Lopen + Cord.........well maybe. Cord seemed less than interested. 3) Huio being so intelligent and well spoken when speaking Herdazian.

It's 2am and my eyes are so tired but my brain is SO FULL. Brandon you can't do this to us, this was just suppose to be a simple novella. Dalinar's odder visions and whole "other light" thing in Oathbringer has bothered me, I didn't make the connection to what Rysn was experiencing though. Maybe the 3 Bondsmiths are the other Dawnshards? Dawnshard Commands and Awakening Commands is reaaaaaaallly interesting. I'm excited to see future Chiri-chiri in DRAGON MODE. I had some Game of Throne flashbacks with the giant skulls scene though. Hoid once said something roughly like how he began life as words on a page. I wonder now if this was a reference to a Command? Could the writing on the mural have been Yolish? Could the Ghostbloods be after this? The whole "yeah we're after economic trading power" didn't really sit well with me. And also I'm shipping the Lopen/Cord and also Huio/Rushu.

Interactive Map and Timeline of Roshar - Feedback
Zelly replied to Paleo's topic in 17th Shard Discussion
Holy cow you guys. First, no technical problems on my end. Everything seems to link up, zooming and drag moving around works well. Visually it's amazing. Love the art tied to the articles. Also the detail of the map itself, like the pools on the Horneater Peaks. Suggestion: Make a pinned post in the Stormlight Archive board. I would never have seen this if it hadn't popped up in my Youtube feed, and it definitely needs to be seen by more people. Edit: Just found the map Layers in the settings, SO COOL. This is my favorite part. Maybe name it something other than "Settings", however. I could see people not realizing there are alternative map overlays there. -
Welp, I'm fresh out of math problems, but here's some links to a few of my favorite math channels. Do you like numberphile? Numberphile - Monty Hall Or vsauce? How to count past infinity Or vsauce2? The Secret of Snakes and Ladders Or this series of Ted-Ed animated riddles (some are more mathy than others)? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-ZEfxAL9SI

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Zelly replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
Students in my district are returning to school (I....guess that's good news in some ways and not in others? ). Some are choosing to remain virtual and teachers are being given the dreaded shoulder tap of "Hey it's you, you're going to be the all virtual teacher for your grade. Sorry." Virtual teaching has been trying to trip me into a dark angry depression. I was really, really worried I was going to get tapped. But I WASN'T and I am SO relieved. -
I'd just go as a crazy, half blind beggar. I feel like we've seen him like that more than actually as Hoid.

Oh cool, thanks!

He applied for the position of Ardent and was denied. Where will he look next? I'm guessing he'll try the surgeon's tents. Main issue with this is he's going to see people get hurt here. Potentially people like his Windrunners. Which will make him think he failed to protect them, which is not what he needs. Where do you think he's going to try to end up?

For a $60/monthly paid account, yes. I mean if someone has a paid account and wants to use it, that's awesome and solves that problem. Or if I missed something, but as far as I can tell it's free = 10 players.

Quick run down on Kahoot if you're not familiar with it: It's a basically a multiple choice, live quiz game often used in schools. One person creates the questions before hand, then starts a game. Players are told a code to access the game and play along. They are playing in on a separate screen showing their answer choices. Points are given to correct answers and by speed. The Idea: Let's make a livestreamed cosmere trivia Kahoot game! I just did one these about Halloween movie trivia and it was a lot of fun. They were also giving away prizes to the winners (players had to enter their email before joining). I think they're be a lot of interest in this, if anyone is interested in making/hosting it? (I'm eyeing the Shardcast crew, as you all are well known members of the community. And you guys would love extra things to do, right? Sure!) Could always ask the community to submit questions also, so there's a nice range of easy to hard. The Awkward: There's a limit on players (I believe only 10, unless you have an paid upgraded account). Not sure how this could be worked around. Maybe draw 10 from a lottery of potential players, plus a few backups in case there are some no shows? Those not actively playing can still "play along" like the audience in the chat section of the livestream, shouting out what they think is the correct answer. Anyways just wanted to pass this along. Not sure if it's remotely feasible, but there is it. If nothing else, small groups of friends could make and play their own games.

So I think This is what I keeping running into. Like if I don't define a set, there's just an infinite number of possible outcomes. I could gather increasing numbers of people and never have someone with my birthday or on the other side of the spectrum I could have everyone share my birthday. And then all the possibilities inbetween the two. So I'll revise my question with a limit. Let's say I have 30 people (including myself). At that number, we can be 99% sure that two random people share a birthday. But what is the probability that one of the 29 others share my specific birthday?
-
I like pie and I'm a Taurus. So.... there's that. I'm trying to remember rolling probability and I can't remember how to do it with a 6 sided die, let alone 365 outcomes. How many times do I need to plan to roll a die to be almost certain I will roll a 6 at some point? There's no 100%, because there's veeeeeery small unlikely chance I could technically never roll a six.

So this is cool and I have lots of questions. There's got to be more applications, with different combinations of spren, gems, and rhythms. And can it be applied to known fabrials to sort of reverse engineer their effects, but without imprisoning the spren? (Stick a infused ruby in a hearth, hum a few bars = heatrial ?) Music seems to be replacing the wire "cage" of a fabrial? Are their special rhythms for special spren? Speaking of special spren, does this relate to weird uberspren Cusicesh, who leaves people feeling drained? Is there some sort of giant fabrial in its city? Music seems to be replacing the wire "cage" of a fabrial? Crazy foil hat theory: Roshar, the planet as a whole, is an enormous organic fabrial.
-
My first thought at this part was, "Wow that would be difficult to do in the middle of a battle with someone and that would take a lot of gemstones.".....just like like in the pillar at the heart of Urithiru, which happens to be a giant fabrial. I'm wondering if Urithiru doesn't have some sort of "switch" that when thrown could seal multiple fused in the vicinity at the same time.

So Leshwi was not even on my radar for Kaladin. Until chapter 14. Halfway through it I was like, "OH NO I'm shipping them in my head!" So I guess I'm curious to see where the ship goes, assuming there's one there at all. Or if it's a ship full of hidden explosives. Fun either way!
