  1. I believe that Daigornarthis is also one of the unmade, although I couldn't find the similar quote. "“Let me no longer hurt! Let me no longer weep! Daigonarthis! The Black Fisher holds my sorrow and consumes it!” —Tanatesach 1173, 28 seconds pre-death. A darkeyed female street juggler. Note similarity to sample 1172-89." In regards to Voidbinding I noticed some similarities in the book: (emphasis is all mine) "Szeth hesitated, then knelt down and took the sphere. It was odd, unlike any he’d seen before. Though it was completely dark, it seemed to glow somehow. With a light that was black." -Szeth looking at Gavilar's sphere "He effortlessly sheared a monster in half, flinging pieces into the night that trailed black smoke." -The radiant dispatching the midnight essence in Dalinar's vision, this could be the black anti-stormlight. "Tiny, near-invisible spren were floating out of the beast’s body, vanishing into the air. They looked like the tongues of smoke that might come off a candle after being snuffed. Nobody knew what kind of spren they were; you only saw them around the freshly killed bodies of greatshells." -Dalinar's observations after the hunt. I thought that these instances bore a resemblance to the anti-stormlight in Gavilar's sphere, I included the great shell quote even though it bore the least similarity with the other two because Kalak saw purple blood in the previous desolation. "Blood mixed. Red. Orange. Violet" -Kalak in the prelude Also the picture of the voidbringer Shallan drew for Dalinar was a great shell. Going a bit deeper, Gavilar didn't want the Parshendi to have the anti-stormlight sphere because he was planning to bring back the Parshendi gods using the anti-stormlight and the Parshendi gods were the unmade/ten fools.
  2. I don't know if anyone else has caught this quote but: “Ten orders. We were loved, once. Why have you forsaken us, Almighty! Shard of my soul, where have you gone?” —Collected on the second day of Kakash, year 1171, five seconds before death. Subject was a lighteyed woman in her third decade. Is it me or does it directly say the Almighty forsook the Radiants?
  3. Thank you Satsuoni I didn't know Brandon said that. It appears that people did have a good reason to believe honour blades were what the heralds carried.
  4. From what I can glean its is the consensus that the Heralds carried the Honorblades, when I first came to the forums I was puzzled because I thought that the Heralds carried the Dawnshards. I assumed people must have a good reason for believing so, therefore I didn't make an issue of it. During one of my rereads I came across a couple of quotes with interesting implications. “You might be able to get him to choose a champion. He is bound by some rules. All of us are. A champion could work well for you, but it is not certain. And… without the Dawnshards…" Tanavast during Dalinar's vision, the implication being that a Dawnshard is a weapon that can be used against Odium. Yo Dawg, I heard you guys like quotes so here is a quote in a quote.(Apologies I digress) "“Taking the Dawnshard, known to bind any creature voidish or mortal, he crawled up the steps crafted for Heralds, ten strides tall apiece, toward the grand temple above.” —From The Poem of Ista. I have found no modern explanation of what these “Dawnshards” are. They seem ignored by scholars, though talk of them was obviously prevalent among those recording the early mythologies." Epigraph from Chapter 36 This quote just illustrates the association of the Dawnshards with the Heralds. The only other mention of Dawnshards is metaphorically by Shallan. In regards to Honorblades they are mentioned twice, once by Shallan in the same metaphorical capacity as Dawnshards and then by Dalinar who likens them to fireplace poker in his vision of the midnight essence. My point is that there is an association of Dawnshards with the Heralds and an implication that Dawnshards are used to combat Odium while there is no information about Honorblades other than its metaphorical use. All I suggest is that it shouldn't be established that Honorblades were carried by the Heralds because there is more evidence linking the Dawnshards to the Heralds. Any thoughts?
  5. I am going to make the point that honor could have died anywhere between the previous Desolation to Dalinar's visions, this is because honor says 'Most of these visions I have observed directly.'(emphasis is mine and very rough quote) Also Dalinar has had visions we have not seen.
  6. Some of my favourite High Fantasy The Blood Song by Anthony Ryan is really good, after I finished reading it for the first I read it again. The Imager Portfolio by L.E Modesitt Jr., it remains one of my favorite series and The Saga of Recluce is also good. Riyria Revelations by Michael Sullivan is solid and I really liked the ending. First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie, I don't really really like it but fans of ASoIaF should . Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence's is good read but its a bit full on in terms of violence. Peter V Brett the Warded Man it is solid series, action packed but a bit wierd. The Black Company by Glen Cook The Wizards First Rule by Terry Goodkind, the first couple are good then the series turns into crap Prince of Nothing Series by R. Scott Bakker, really philosophical but good more in the vein of GRRM The Abhorsen by Garth Nix, really good YA fantasy The Steel Remains by Richard Morgan, very good series but stay away if you're offended by homosexuality The Winds Of Khalakovo by Bradley P Beaulieu, good fantasy with a Russian flair Ten Thousand by Paul Kearney, Spartan-esque but very good There is this author Brandon something or the other, I have heard he is good.
  7. I was on the mobile site and I was looking at Brandon's profile on this site and I clicked on find content and it came up with only the Q&A but above that it said search limited from 29/05/12 but in longer form. I checked this with couple of the admins and same was true, then I tried it on the PC version nothing of the sort came up. Its not really an issue but I thought you might like to know and the theorist in me wells up at thought of secret sub-forums.
  8. Didn't Noahdon walk to Urithiru you instead of the direct way, how could he have walked there if it is shadesmar?
  9. I personally don't think Urithiru is in shadesmar, my thoughts are that it is on a mountain, I believe there was quote calling it the tower city. My theory is to get to Urithiru you can through shadesmar, travel through the oathgates or fly. I believe that one orders of the radiants used shadesmar to create portals or teleport and the oathgates are just portals through shadesmar that normal people could use based on that order's powers. This is because Brandon has said the distances work differently in shadesmar. Your evidence suggests that Jasnah knows where Urithiru is, not because it is in shadesmar but because she went to Urithiru through shadesmar, which also explains how she knows about radiants.
  10. This is what I don't understand about the war in nebrask why don't they get artists to draw big chull chalkings that are incredibly detailed then get rithmatists to trace them and aim them at the tower with instructions to kill everthing in its path.
  11. I have read the threads about the types of shard blades and have long been of the opinion that the heralds possessed the dawnshards. My evidence for this is when Tanavast in the flashback says you could get him to choose a champion but it would be difficult without the dawnshards (I don't have the book at the moment so I can't quote but I believe this is very roughly what he said). Why would the dawnshards be useful in a fight against Odium's champion unless it was a blade.
  12. I am not sure but doesn't shard plate have slots for gems to power them. But going on a tangent my theory is that shard plate conducts stormlight creating a stormlight potential between the gems and the shard plate. Every time the plate is hit it expends some of the potential.
  13. Crazyroiter is correct as Hoid is addressed as brightlord even though the night watch don't know his rank. So I suspect that all lighteyes can be addressed as such by darkeyes but from other lighteyes 4th dahn and above are refered to as brightlord.
  14. I had a niggling feeling after reading the the Rithmatist like I missed something about why Joel didn't become a Rithmatist. As I was reading the part about him entering the chamber for the masters acceptance and realised that he put the mechanical coin in his pocket. I think that coin may have been part of why the stick figure went away thus leaving Joel a non- Rithmatist. Any thoughts?
  15. Very jealous of you guys that get to read the head of everyone else. It kind of bums me out that in Australia I have to wait until the 15th before I can get my hands on it. I thought The Rithmatist was quite good, Brandon has this way of resolving the plot but leaving far more unanswered questions that make me want to scream with frustration. Who are the forgotten, what is the tower of nebrask, what is the mysterious apparition in the cathedral, the mechanics of inception, how do people transform into chalking and who/what is Nalizar. These questions are swirling in my mind and I can't sleep.
  16. Kalak sees orange blood (parshmen/parshendi) in the prelude.
  17. You should post the livin la vida Roshar lyrics.
  18. I think that somewhere in the book Szeth mentions a Valley of Truth in Shinovar. This may refer to a religious location and suggests that Szeth though some action represents the opposite of whatever the shin religion is.
  19. My personal opinion is that either Kaladin is going to tag team Szeth with Adolin to ofset his superior skill or go at him 1 on 1 then bust out the third ideal and maybe bring out an honour blade/shard spear.
  20. I haven't been reading this thread as thoroughly as I should so correct me if I am wrong or if somebody has already mentioned it but hasn't Dalinar had many more visions than we have seen. Therefore isn't it erroneous to assume that Honor died after the recreance.
  21. It could be that a different Parshendi form is more conducive of learning and speech.
  22. I wanted to make a point, everyone here doing calculations is basing them on the assumption that the rules of our universe eg. Gravitation, Time dilation, Speed of light, are the same in the cosmere.
  23. I think that the KR having bloodlines is incorrect mostly due to a number of reasons. For example Dalinar's vision as mentioned by Storm atlas, but one from the top of my head is in the ars arcanum each essence and by extension each order of the KR has attributes, this reveals that it is the way you act which grants you power as a radiant. This suggests that its not very likely that bloodlines have anything to do with radiance.
  24. Edit:Sorry about the double post, I posted it on my phone and something went wrong.
  25. To get back on topic at the very beginning doesn't Szeth say that Voidbringers could hold Stormlight in perfectly. Does this not imply that Surgebinding and Voidbinding are not exclusive to humans or Voidbringers respectively or that both Voidbinding and Surgebinding use Stormlight. Any thoughts?
