  1. I'd be sad if we wouldn't get to see Dominion and Devotion more just because they're splintered. I want to see every Shard in action at some point at least (a Sel double Shard would be fine as well though, imo).
  2. I would expect that after Dragonsteel has been completed (and released, obviously) we will know all Shards and (original) Vessels. Which would of course perfectly set the stage for a space opera in which they are all involved.
  3. I hope we'll get a book or series on a Shardworld with the Creation + Evolution Shards that I've theorized. I also expect a fourth Shard to show up in Stormlight Archive at some point because right now it seems like we know all big Cosmere things for the series, and I just don't believe Brandon isn't going to add some more cards to the deck when there's seven books still to go. Unity is the top contender for me, but Autonomy or another unknown Shard wouldn't surprise me either. I could also see Ingenuity (may or may not be hinted at by Brandon, but also theorized by me) on it's own Shardworld, or maybe paired with another Shard. Also, hasn't Brandon said somewhere he planned a total of 10 Shardworlds? Assuming the Roshar system counts as a single Shardworld, and not counting planets with 0 Shards (currently just First of the Sun), that means we have Vax (do we know this is a Shardworld?) and either two unknown planets or Yolen and one unknown planet still to go. EDIT: Of course there's also the "hide and survive" Shard and a Shard not on a planet, possibly but not necessarily the same one. I think I can also remember a theory that this Shard not on a planet is in Silverlight.
  4. Bit of a vague WoB imo. It kind of sounds like he first says it's the steel bubble, but he then says the bubble comes from savantism.
  5. What is Wax' resonance, actually?
  6. Be careful you don't end up pushing the core out of the planet. ...I now have horrible visions of planet-destructing apocalypses.
  7. Just like tin (increases senses) and pewter (increases physical strength) are opposites, you mean? Or like how storing memories is the opposite of storing wakefullness? How storing health is the opposite of storing determination? The opposites are mostly just there in the Allomantic Table, not in the Feruchemical, and even in the Allomantic Table not all are actual opposites. I think that most Shards are opposites in one way, but not in another. Also note that Brandon has never said that there are no Shards other than Preservation and Ruin that are opposites. And I was gonna write up what I thought the relationship with the Metallic Arts was, but then I looked at the stuff I'd worked out when I last worked on it two months ago and remembered that it was probably best to drop the connection between Shards and metals and only place them on the same underlying system.
  8. That ties in to the "The spren were in on it" thread that was hovering around this subforum a few weeks ago as well (and might still be somewhere on page 1 or 2? not sure...).
  9. I'm not saying nothing is changing, but I doubt anything super important will happen.
  10. I guess we just don't know. Feverstone Keep was somewhere in the Northwest of Roshar though, and considering the listeners lived in the far east, I think that it would have been a patchwork of human and singer lands in reality. The map might of course not be all that accurate. What we know is that humans were set back further and further every next Desolation, so I would assume they suffered more than the singers. Of course, a difference is also that 10 humans with advanced knowledge came back (the Heralds) while hundreds or even thousands of singers with advanced knowledge came back (the Fused), which I suppose would mean they could always get a jumpstart in technology and the like at the start of any Desolation.
  11. I doubt that's gonna happen. Kaladin wasn't able to say the Fourth Ideal when it really mattered, so I really doubt he's going to be able to say it at a random point without a major event happening. Pressure causes change and growth. As long as Shallan doesn't encounter problems related to her multiple identities, it's not gonna sort itself out. She also has no idea where Sja-Anat is, so I don't see why she'd be able to finish the mission. Dalinar won't be on the Fifth Ideal for the same reason Kaladin isn't - he's just not gonna be pressured to advance. Same holds true for Adolin. Renarin is clear now, right? He bonded a corrupted spren but he's still on the good side. Again, don't see what would happen there. Bridge 4 might very well have more Radiants - but do we really need to see every single one? I think we'll survive if we hear "oh and this guy swore his first two Oaths now". Other Radiants will probably show up as well - again, I think we'll survive hearing "there's now some fifteen windrunners, three truthwatchers, three edgedancers, oh, and there's also a new elsecaller".
  12. I would say it's debatable, but I will also say that damnation is not a good alternative, because it's often used a different kind of word and then it just doesn't fit.
  13. Surely you meant to say "oh Stick".
  14. @hypatia I'm not seeing what your argument is now. You said in your last post that you thought Desolations occuring closer and closer together were perhaps a pyrrhic victory for Odium, which was what I replied to, but I don't see how your new post relates to that.
  15. @Khyrindor I don't think that's what Devotion does though. We do know from WoB that Love or Compassion would be synonyms. Also, I do not disagree with being logical about it, but in fact I'm arguing there's not enough logic. You basically started at the top (what are divine attributes and how can we order them together?), while I started at the bottom (with these rules as starting point, which Intents would we get?) and I think the second method is more logical as it needs to be able to predict the known Shards as well, rather than ordering them on what seems likely.
  16. You have previously said that allomancy can be compared to the Shards as a "further deviation on an established pattern". Is there a non-arbitrary pattern to the Intents of the Shards? (for reference, the WoB: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/95-general-twitter-2016/#e833) (note that this does not mean it is the only non-arbitrary pattern possible) Also, related to this thread in general: Might it be a good idea to update the first post to link to Arcanum instead of Theoryland? EDIT: Another one: How many Rosharan seconds go in a Rosharan minute, and how many Rosharan minutes go in a Rosharan hour?
  17. Now I cannot banish the mental image of Pattern salivating.
  18. What if Roshar was just created with metamorphic rock? I mean, we don't know when Roshar was created but considering the unstable orbits of the moons, the very recognizable Julia Set despite constant weathering and buliding up from storms, floods and crem, it cannot be that much older than the Shattering. Thousands of years, possible, but likely not millions of years. But we do know Roshar was created by Adonalsium, so he could've just put the metamorphic rock in there, just like Sazed added oil deposits and the like for Scadrial (he did, right? I don't have that from WoB or anything, but I remember someone mentioning that).
  19. You're right, I was describing Cultivation wrong. It's "growth, good or bad". She doesn't care what grows, as long as it does. As Intent, at least, the Vessel might try to direct it if possible. My dislike for this (even though I know there's a good deal of discussion behind it) is that the list has been formed by naming possible Shards and discussing what feels most logical. There's no reasoning why these would be the Shards beyond "they sound like divine attributes", while this WoB implies that there is a pattern to them (though I really want a clearer WoB on that one!). (something along the lines of "Was Adonalsium Shattered in a non-arbitrary pattern?")
  20. If you're heavy enough that you push the core instead of yourself (which, for the record, still includes pushing yourself because otherwise you're going in the same direction which kind of breaks the laws of nature, baron Von Munchaussen style), I would argue you're also heavy enough to attract objects around you, and probably even heavy enough to make those objects together become spherical around you.
  21. I disagree. I'm not necissarily convinced about this theory, but I do think another Shard will get involved in Stormlight Archive at some point (maybe the second half), as I argued yesterday in another thread:
  22. What would back that up though? In fact, I'm pretty sure that we've seen somewhere that "Cultivation is about change, good or bad". I would say though, that the Vessel may focus on the positive, but I haven't seen any evidence that the Shard would be focused on growth being positive from it's own nature.
  23. I would say that, just because not all pieces are the same, doesn't mean none are the same. Having said that, it's the Shard of which I am least content with the name (and if it isn't Unity that also means the Shard has no relationship to Roshar/Dalinar that we know of). As for Unity meaning "being together", I would argue that this is actually a fine Intent for a Shard, as it would have the goal of bringing together, even though it might be only a small part of a whole in itself.
  24. The difference between those Shards indeed isn't huge, but they are not the same either. Cultivation is about change (no matter what it means), while Evolution is about improving life. Creation is about creating sapient, or at least sentient, life, while Ingenuity is about improving one's self and surroundings. As for Unity, that's the name I'm least confident with, an alternative might probably be Identity. Also see my reply to our resident Toaster. We only saw Wisdom as the start of a sentence. That's why there's speculation. I am aware of this, but something feels off about this all. We're three books in, and we supposedly know most of the stuff that's happening already. There's some question marks about the Recreance, the war's only just begun, etc, but we know there's three Shards, and we have reason to assume Dalinar is on the path to taking up Honor (though I doubt anyone would be surprised if Brandon subverted that in one way or another). Cosmerically, it looks like there's no big surprises coming anymore. And I just don't believe that. So I think that a fourth Shard will, at some point, get involved. Could be something else as well, but considering I ended up with a Shard for which Unity would, if nothing more, at least be an acceptable Intent, that's what I'm thinking right now is the most likely. This is also what I argued in my theory. I believe the "Unity" Shard (or maybe "Identity", I'm mostly gravitating towards Unity because that way it fits with aforementioned suspicions) is, basically, the essence of Adonalsium. It's basically the core of Adonalsium, stripped of everything else. This is also where Odium's "we killed you" comes from; it's plural because he thinks of the Shattering. I doubt he Ascended more than Rashek did. -- Anyways, the bottom-up explanation (starting from the basics and working up towards the Intents, rather than guessing and discussing Intents) is in that link, which is also in my signature (Fundamental Surges Part 2: Pattern of the Shards).
  25. I believe the unknown Shards are Wisdom, Unity, Creation, Evolution, Ingenuity and Curiosity, of which Wisdom, Unity and Ingenuity have been hinted at either in a book or in WoB.
