[OB] Full Book Reactions / Full Spoilers Thread
Blacksmithki replied to Chaos's topic in Stormlight Archive
Well, Ruin really wanted an end to things, in his own words, everything needs an end. He's not bad per say, he's bad without context, same as every single other shard, preservation would stop any change whatsoever, Honor only cares about oaths, not wether they will destroy people like what happened to Szeth, Odium is (per epigraphs of one of the first two books) "god's own divine hatred, without the (I think virtues?) that gave it context". All of these things are good if you give them balance and context, and terrible alone. See Harmony as opposed to either Ruin or Preservation, or Preservation in the context of trying to stop Ruin in HoA. -
I think it is pretty likly that it will be Eshonai, mostly because we have one WoB that it will be her, and none that it even might be Venlii. The flashbacks will probably be about the listener people as a way of fleshing them out even better.
-
Huh, this is very interesting. That unmade was mindless right? That implies Odium was actively there and communicating with it, so given the time delay to allow Odium to get the voice right and prepare what to say. On the other hand, why would Odium bother with this if he planned for them to be killed by (sja? One of the unmade), it seems odd that he wouldn't trust her to do that but let her anyways.

Things I can't remember off the top of my head that I think are very relevant: Did the voice help her win the fight? If yes: almost for sure not odium tbh, why manipulate and risk failing when you can crush. How soon did the voice come? We don't know how long it would take to imitate a voice, but it wouldn't be instant. Did the voice sound exactly like Hoid? It probably wouldn't be easy or fast to mimic a voice so perfectly to trick Shallen with a near perfect memory. If yes this is another point against Odium being the voice.

I can't remember the exact quote, but it was closer to "their meat was men, (something about listeners being broth), the (referring to greater Spren like syl) demanded more (then the listeners)" So in essence, for the purposes of Spren, Men > Listeners

[OB] Full Book Reactions / Full Spoilers Thread
Blacksmithki replied to Chaos's topic in Stormlight Archive
Autonomy is also known to be very expansive, with multiple entire pantheons made up of copies of him, so that's a chunk of the reasoning, as that fits pretty nicely into the letter. I do believe there was a discussion about this on whatever the thread where someone collected al the epigraphs. -
The thunderclasts were not Spren, they were fuzed in bodies other then listeners. Forces we know were at that battle: Odium, Thrill unmade, gemstone supervoidbringer unmade, two thunderclasts, fuzed, third thing in the ocean that may have just been one of the two unmade mentioned.

In all liklyhood he knows about what is happening in the world and has heard about the rest of what Dalinar is doing, he also knows Lift (who Nightblood repulsed, if you've not read warbreaker most people are filled with bloodlust by Nightblood) and she trusts Dalinar. He also probably knows about how the windrunners are honourable and whatnot, and he knows Kal trusts Dalinar and knows Kal is a windrunners.

[OB] Cultivation and strategic possibilities
Blacksmithki replied to Jenet's topic in Stormlight Archive
She is capable of turning food into stormlight, there is a thread discussing this whole thing, it's title is along the lines of "lift can't breathe in stormlight", I'd try to link but I'm on mobile. (On this same board, it should be pretty high up on the list) She's also partly in the cognitive realm (shadesmar) because of her boon/curse. -
Compare your parents or yourself at ages (Kal is around 19 I think, add a few for maturity why not, so 25) and at age 35 or so, odds are you/they have a stable career, old friends, and are completely different to how they were when younger, they have very very little in common with their younger selves most likly. I'm not the best at explaining things but in general most people get along much better with people around the same age and maturity as them.

Also they get used in the unpublished, non-canon (but not to say none of it will get used) "liar of partinel" -
Still, Jasnah is in a completely different phase of life then Kaladin, and brain development goes on untill around age (25 I think), those two things are still most of the arguments about the age difference I can find.

[OB] Cultivation and strategic possibilities
Blacksmithki replied to Jenet's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think that most of what we see of her help are going to be things like Dalinar being changed so he can claim his pain from Odium, or tricks similar to the Kandra from HoA (I suspect the diagram will turn out to be like this) -
theory [OB] Crackpot Theory: Voidbinding, Surgebinding and Renarin
Blacksmithki replied to Kk-'s topic in Stormlight Archive
The stormfather said that Honor told the radiants that surge binding would destroy the world (on mobile no quote sorry) when he was telling him about how Honor changed near the recreance. This doesn't quite fit with the idea of voidbinding destroying the world instead, but I like the rest of it. -
Most of the people bringing up age do so in the context of either phase of life or phycological development, so that's not a very comparable example to Kal/Jasnah.

[OB] Dysian Aimians in Oathbringer
Blacksmithki replied to SirWednesday's topic in Stormlight Archive
I thought i saw a WoB that they were important to mistborn era 4 as well, i'll go look it up to edit it in in a sec, so they seem VERY important to not just be relevant to Roshar. Questioner Will there be a major part in the story for the Sleepless? Brandon Sanderson Yes, but much later on. Questioner What means later on? Brandon Sanderson Well, they have a major role in the science fiction Mistborn trilogy, but that's pretty far off. So they will be very important very much later on. Probably a better way to copy it in, but whatever. -

Based on his oath, he would be a windrunner (not all members say their oaths the same way) -
[OB] Argent's "Secret Renarin WoB", a.k.a. The Page™
Blacksmithki replied to Argent's topic in Stormlight Archive
This whole time I had assumed that the page was the one in chapter (19?) (Starfalls) where the Radient mentions that to speak of what is to come is forbidden... I had assumed that this was to imply that seeing the future was not forbidden, only to speak of it was. Turns out it wasn't even referring to a page in my paperback copy of the book after all, so it was all but impossible for me to guess it. -
This actually has a thread already BTW

[OB] Aluminum Economics and Roshar

It doesn't take to long to worldhop in theory, in shadesmar distance is relative to amount of stuff with identity as far as i know, so the space between planets is actually pretty small.- 39 replies

The main issue i see people expressing with oathbringer is the number of plot threads left incomplete that they expected to be covered in this book. I'm assuming, and it's not much of a stretch considering what an amazing author Brandon is, that most of these threads will be picked up in book four in such a way as it seems like that was the natural progression of that plot thread and that "of course he didn't cover it in book three", so we no longer see them as missing or ignored in this book. So for example, people are annoyed that Adolin didn't have much in the way of consequences for the murder of Sadeas, i'm saying that in all liklyhood book four will not only cover it but make it seem like the natural progression of that thread when looking backwards.

[OB] Theory - The Third Original Shard on Roshar is not Odium
Blacksmithki replied to Junes's topic in Stormlight Archive
To be fair, Roshar is not the only planet in that system, so this theory is unlikely but not dead. -
[OB] POLL: Which storylines did you love?
Blacksmithki replied to ccstat's topic in Stormlight Archive
I'm pretty sure that the first two options are both "amazing" (about what I expect from Brandon) and the third one is a pretty low bar considering how absolutely stunning Dalinar's is. On a scale from one to ten might be a better marker for rating the plot lines. -
My opinion is that this book will feel incomplete untill book four comes out because of all the plot threads we expected to be resolved in this book being delayed due to the already INSANE length, but once that issue is resolved, more people will prefer this book. This book is my personal favourite, but it could have been maybe 160% of the length to help it out to make more or less every single person alive give it a 10/10

[OB] The third Bondsmith and Urithiru
Blacksmithki replied to FirstSelector's topic in Stormlight Archive
I guess this is what happens when you don't Re read part one, read 2-5 in ten hours and can't re read the whole book because someone else is reading it. I forgot pretty much that entire thing.
