  1. was reading through this WoB and noted a few items. It's not complete, but it's all I have time for right now https://wob.coppermind.net/events/36-arcanum-unbounded-chicago-signing/#e1551 corrected: #13 corrected: #15 corrected:

    Timeline Question

Possibly - but maybe the whole point of the way Honor fought this battle was to try to pin Odium down long enough that he becomes passively Invested in Braize. That he used Odium/Rayse's dogged pursuit against him. He knew Odium wouldn't give up so he set up the combat between them in a way to force him to Invest. Since Odium had to Invest to fight Honor, and the more he stays in that system unwilling to give up his pursuit of both Honor and Cultivation, the more he is unable to leave. from this WoB: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/36-arcanum-unbounded-chicago-signing/#e1551 It makes it seem like a Shard who sticks around passively seeps into the world they inhabit; ergo it might be possible for a shard to Invest to the point of being stuck without noticing it. It may be that Odium's not going to find it easy to just pick up and leave once or if he finally manages to finish the job in Roshar. If they manage to trap him on Braize more or less permanently, well that means bad things long term for Roshar but good things for the Cosmere. A kinda wild one off occurred to me. Perhaps the purpose of the visions from the Stormfather isn't just to stir the people up to fight once more. Perhaps it's also seeking someone who might be able reassemble and take up Honor. We know it's splintered currently, but as everything in the Cosmere appears to be reversible (Even if it's difficult) it's got to be possible in some way to put it back together again if someone is sufficiently attuned to Honor in a way that they could begin the process. The obvious candidate would be Kaladin as he is bonded to an honorspren, one of the few spren we can say is 100% of Honor and not of Cultivation at all. I'd say that's probably something for the second five, and not for the first, which I think will largely if not entirely be focused on this Desolation and the defeat of Odium, but it's something I'll try to keep in mind for....20 years down the road or something. I really hope I live long enough to see all this play out.

I kinda wonder if what Honor did was bait Odium into investing himself just enough to trap him.
  4. well, they are, just not as abundant as iron. Same with the rare earth metals that also can be used for magnets, but they are mostly less dense than the main trio. The Earth's core is thought to be an iron-nickel alloy due to some oddities in the measurements scientists have taken (it's probably not pure iron), so it makes sense that a different planet with different mixes of the same sorts of elements would have a similar effect. I had to look up the metal densities as I wasn't sure before I mentioned they are both denser than iron. The densest non-radioactive element (or, at least, its half life is so long that radioactive decay has never been observed in any of its naturally occurring isotopes except one) is osmium but it's ridiculously rare and also non-magnetic. I doubt it would make sense to plug it into a core structure and still retain the deflecting capabilities of a strong magnetic field. Good luck to you.
  5. If you're wanting an earth like planet that includes the magnetic field that we have to deflect/absorb space radiation it pretty much has to be a magnetic material. NIckel and cobalt are both denser than iron, the other rare earth elements typical in rare-earth element magnets are less dense. So, while I'm not an expert in the field, perhaps you'd want heavier amounts of those other magnetic elements? You might want to bump up the size of the planet to something closer to earth size to account for the lack of variance in gravity. I suppose another possibility is there is more by percent of the denser elements in the crust and perhaps mantle of the world you are proposing. Or, physics may be a bit different there, the periodic table for your made up world may contain an imaginary superdense magnetic metal element that accounts for the mass. When you're dealing with fantasy, you don't always have to be tied fully to real world science...you can have a little fun with it. Tolkien gave us a superstrong but lightweight metal in mithril, Marvel gave us vibranium and...I forget the element Stark synthesized in Iron Man 2, there's other stuff like that floating around. Such a metal wouldn't have much in the way of weapons application at least in the handheld weapon era - it would be too heavy for most, same with armor you wear, but making a city gate out of it to resist siege damage...
  6. since this is a sort of sequential correction page...should I post different WoB's in different posts? https://wob.coppermind.net/events/294-17th-shard-interview/ Completely blank this one is. I'd be happy to transcribe if you want.
  7. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/290-ancient-lunch-qa/ I reviewed this one and its source in their respective entireties (very short :D) and it appears to be correct so you can strike the needs review tag. New Tag: Mistborn I don't as a rule tag much so I don't know how specific you want to be with tagging. There were two questions about piercing copperclouds, one about whether twins would both be Mistborn and one about how you address an Inquisitor. edit: also was one about what a lynchpin spike is made of which was RAFO'd
  8. The Dark Tower by Steven King It has some horror elements to it but on the whole I think it's well classified as fantasy/dark fantasy or things of that sort. Our world and Mid-World share a connection and parts of the story take place on Earth and alternative past Earth.

  10. I've done a fair bit of review and revision in the legal field so...yeah. I tend to just pull stuff and make all corrections. One thing that owuld be fantastic is if there is any way to scroll back and forth in an audio. Maybe down the road? Anyway. Corrections. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/153-hal-con-2012/
  11. So...the proper descriptor for Hoid would Hoid-y toity?
  12. She's been doing this since the end of WoR - she spoke in his mind when she was in Sylblade form during the fight with Szeth edit: It may be she's unable to do this unless she is in blade form. That seems to be the case anyway.
  13. weird...it was almost like the windspren were attracted to his focused burst of stormlight. I don't know what to make of that. Sebarial makes me laugh. Even when he's not on screen. Hooray for Jasnah's return!
  14. what if you replaced the Cut First with Killed Szeth?
  15. Heimdall is great. Loved the battle between Thor and Hulk. Loved that Thor got Loki back in this one - he's learned to be subtle and sneaky when he has to. And the whole "are you Thor the God of Hammers?" line... Probably should have had less Korg, but that's my only real complaint.
  16. Granted. But you also have perfect time keeping keyed to Kepler 438b and the two different standards constantly war in your heads, giving you frequent headaches and confusion about which time you are keeping. I call upon the Nightwatcher to fulfill my boon. I wish to understand all human speech.
  17. That makes very little sense given that Kaladin didn't have to start over after nearly killing Syl. Unless there is further clarification that there is some sort of deterioration over time anyway it makes it seem like an inconsistency in the story if that is the case. Or maybe the issue is Pattern bonded her too young? I don't know.
  18. WoT is mostly the characters start or say they are going to start and it fades to the next scene, jordan never really felt the need to describe the act.
  19. I read around 140 pages an hour; I know I'm not the fastest one on the site, but I expect I'll be done by the morning of the 14th... I'm also rather impatient to know how it turns out.
  20. I don't recall where that WoB was either, but it seems logical given Shallan had access to Pattern in blade form when she killed her mother in the flashback and she has progressed since at least once, when she admitted she killed her mother at the end of WoR
  21. no lie, I've used that ideal as illustration at Sunday School... /totallynotaSandergeekfannerd
  22. hugs for all who need it. Particularly @Draginon and @PlanetReelo I'm in IT work in a nonprofit. We had layoffs yesterday. I've been the person laid off twice in my life so even though I survived this cut (I'm as immune as someone can be from that as literally no one else can do my job and my job directly affects over 100 peoples' ability to do their jobs) I take it pretty hard. We're down as low as we can go and still maintain any kind of real service to all our facilities. The guy we lost from IT has a wife and two kids and was blindsided by this. Then we had a major outage affected 14 sites. Twas a rough day. I went to see Thor to try to blow off steam but I'm still kinda on edge.
  23. long time piano player here...I'd add on 6/4, 3/2...my personal favorites were these two songs, one was 7/4 and the other was 3/4+3/8. Dont have any cute names for them though...
