  1. In that situation, I think that the Steel Inquisitor would end up the winner. The first problem is that the Monk would be using a steel weapon, which could just be pushed away. But lets say that it was just made of aluminum.  The Monk might have a brief advantage in speed and surprise the Inquisitor with how strong he is. But after that the Steel Inquisitor would outweigh the Dakhor Monk in everything else. With the combination of an iron spike and A-pewter, the Inquisitor would be triple in strenght compared to the Monk. The end result would be the Monk as either shredded meat or every bone in its body crushed.

Next scenario: A full Feruchemist vs a full Shardbearer

The Feruchemist has access to metalminds of all 16 metals, each one filled to an hour of slow, steady tapping and 5 minutes of extreme tapping.

The full Shardbearer has a Shardblade, Shardplate which is fully stocked with infused gems, and a Ryshadium mount.

The fighting area would be the city of Elantris.

  2. The Hero of Ages> The Well of Ascension> The Final Empire

This is my favorite trilogy of all time, so choosing which is best is a tough decision. The Final Empire is a fantastic first book and a great way to introduce people to the Cosmere. The Well of Ascension is, in my humble opinion, just as good as The Final Empire and even slightly better because of the awesome fights and the incredible twist at the end. I have never understood why people have such a low view of this part of the trilogy. I think it's because of the romance. And finally, The Hero of Ages, which I think is just amazing. The opening, the middle, and especially the ending make this one of the greatest final books in a trilogy that I have ever read.

P.S. I also really enjoy the Wax and Wayne series. Eagerly awaiting the fourth book.

$1.62?!  Gee, I remember getting a $20 late fee back in the 90s.  The book wasn't even that late.  X(  I guess my local librarians are more evil than most.

A different kind of bad librarian:

That was really good. I think that it was a good representation of what would happen if a Free Kingdomer tried to act as a Librarian. I kept thinking of Sing through the whole video.

  4. Hello everyone. I had a thought recently that turned into a theory and seems to work very well and I would like to have your thoughts on it.

A while ago a couple of posts where asking what was the black misty spirit that was standing beside Odium at the Battle of Thaylen City. Some people thought it might an Unmade or something like that and since then I haven't seen a lot of thought about it. But I began to think about it and came up with a theory of what it might be. Dalinar is a Bondsmith whose nathel bond is with the Stormfather: the spren of the highstorms. So if the highstorms can have a spren, then what about the Everstorm? Since Dalinar was already bonded to such a massive spren then his soul would have had no problem bonding with an equally powerful one, except it belonged to Odium. The Everstorm was in close proximity so it could have taken physical shape. And Odium was trying to create the most powerful warrior he could, so it is likely that he would bond Dalinar with the most powerful spren he could find. That is unfortunately all I have as evidence for this theory, but I would still really love to hear what you all think.

  5. Hey Alcatraz forum. I have wanted to add something here for a while but could never think of anything, until now. I am a fan of the skit team Studio C, which I think is even better then SNL. Recently I watch one of their videos named "Library Fine Crime" and I highly suggest that you all watch this while in the mindset that these are "evil librarians". The skit is already hilarious but it can be even funnier to Alcatraz fans. Theres no need to respond to this post, I just wanted to spread this for your enjoyment. Thank you and have a fun time watching.

  6. Hey everyone. I recently listened to the newest Writing Excuses podcast, and in the description it said that the Black Piper Kaladin album was released on itunes. I was very excited and listened to each sample of the songs, and plan to buy the whole thing later. But then I went to Sanderson's website and the forums here and no one is talking about it. I'm very confused and would like to know if I am missing something important. Thanks.

  7. One of my favourite things about Oathbringer was the inclusion of the Unmade. Sure we didn't get to see all of them but the ones we did see were freaking cool. Then it was revealed, for now, that there are only nine Unmade. Now the other, more famous nine dark servants of evil are the Nazgul from Lord of the Rings. So with that thought I of course wanted to know who would win if these two groups clashed in battle.

In my opinion, the Unmade have a sure victory. Even with only the five we met in the book, they could probably take care of all the Ringwraiths themselves.

But as I'm biased as more a Sanderson fan then a Tolkien fan (I still love Tolkien though), I want to know what others think.

  8. Really glad you had a good time reading Warbreaker. It's been a while for me so I can't answers your first two questions. But I can say that Lightsong really grew on me, and part of one of the best moments in the book. Unfortunately that was the part where he kicked the bucket, but it was still a great moment. Out of curiosity, what part surprised you the most? Mine was the reveal about Denth in the basement; I had to put the book down and walk around the room to let off the emotions I was feeling.

  9. If a Chromium can stop a shardblade from being summoned, then I really want a scene in a future book where the shardholder tries to summon their blade and starts to freak out when nothing happens. Depending on the situation this could be a really humorous scene or make all the readers shake with worry for the character.

  10. I have been wondering for a while what kind of effect Allomantic Chromium and Nicrocil would have on other forms of Investiture. I have found on the Coppermind that if a Leecher is touching a shardbearer and they burn their metal, then the shardbearer can't summon his or her shardblade. So these metals can work on other magics but now I want to know more. Is there any information out their that I missed, or theories that I can read? Thanks.

  11. After reading Oathbringer I thought of a possible way the fifth book could end and I would like to know what everyone else thinks.

My theory is that the last part of the book will be a second mass exodus by humans, travelling to Roshar's third planet Ashyn. It has been stated that this planet is habitable and there are humans living on it. So I think that the best way to start the next half of the series would be for it to take place on a whole new world. This is only speculation of course but I still think that it could be really cool if it happened.

In regards to age, Kaladin is 19 start of Wok, and 20 start of OB, in Roshar years, which are ~500 days long (and longer than Cosmere standard, according to Khriss in foreword to Edgedancer)

Percy is 16 with the Mark of Achilles and 17 by the time he reaches the height of his power (by my judgement, which is House of Hades/Blood of Olympus)

Have we taken into effect the Celestial Bronze? Is Kaladin part god/monster; ie can Riptide even touch him? Probably only when he is invested. He could just stand there uninvested. Either that or is the Nahel bond enough for it to count?

And Stormlight boosts energy and heals while the Mark of Achilles drains energy. Kaladin could most likely wear Percy out and stab stab stab until he hits the small of his back. Water will heal Percy, but not forever, Stormlight however...

anyway, I’m just rambling by now

I forgot about the effect bronze has on humans! Now there's going to have to be a debate about if Kaladin can even be cut by Riptide.

  13. In my humble opinion, Hawkeye and Black Widow are dead before he even draws Nightblood. Some fast working surges and they're grease spots. Thor then goes nuts and attacks without thinking, resulting in him being sliced in two by Szeths. Since he has unending stormlight, he can attack and simply touch Hulk, rocketing him into space never to be seen again. With gravitation he can destroy both Iron Man and War Machine while flying. With the surge of division he can burn away Falcon's wings and Spiderman's suit, then easily kill both. Finally, Captain America will be under the false impression that his shield is unbreakable. This will begin with him trying to block Nightblood and end with him quickly dying. With that, Szeth would calmly resheath the sword and fly away, replacing the Avengers as The World's Mightiest Hero.
