Random Stuff VII: The Admins Awaken
Voidus replied to Young Bard's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
What if I exhale zebra stripes? Should I be worried right now? -
Been contemplating for half an hour whether I should do an MV or a Neverthere post before I remembered I can put multiple POVs in one post. This is what happens when Voidus forgets to eat or sleep for 18 hours.

There are, Harmony also has a metal which can also be alloyed with the base 16. There are also a less than infinite but great than 16 number of these god alloys. We're not sure if there is or isn't, there are Scadrian worldhoppers so they have access to some method of worldhopping but whether or not it's an allomantic metal or if they can just jump in a Shardpool or something isn't exactly clear.
-
Apparently no we can't. It's the 'including' that's the problem. I agree with you that it stores processing speed (And so storing it lowers processing speed, tapping it raises it), Pathfinder does not.
-
No they don't and no you haven't frequently you haven't even repeated the actual quote, just referenced that you posted one a page ago. And ad nauseum? That's both insulting and untrue, this is a 2 page thread even if you'd done it on every page that's still not ad nauseum But let's review. You can explain in turn how each one means what you're stating. I specifically mentioned this one and you declined to answer. So how does this quote prove that the Dor is the source rather than just the power behind Dakhor magic? This one says nothing about the Dor at all, in fact Brandon ignores the Dor as an explanation and instead focuses on the Skaze, how does this quote mean that the Dor is the source? This is purely on the nature of the Dor itself, not even addressing any magic and Brandon doesn't actually answer it. But I am happy to concede that this quote shows that the Dor is indeed made up of both powers. Now how does this quote mean that the Dor is the source for Dakhor magic? A technicality answer wherein he literally state that they have their focuses and warns against using a vague word like influence. How does this prove that the Dor explicitly is the source of Dakhor magic? If you want quotes that's fine, all you had to do was ask: Skaze are related to skai and also to the Dakhor magic, Seons are related to AonDor and thus to Aona. Also mentions both AonDor and the Shardholder Aona with the obvious link there if you need a quote for those. Aons are splinters of Aona (Devotion) Skaze have a large amount influence Fjordell. Wyrn follows Dominion, another link to the Dakhor. Also implies that this gives some level of power since so far as we know only the essence of Shards allows for futuresight.

Why would I do that? I'm saying they're the same. Your bones become less able to store weight when storing, or you'd be able to do weird stuff that has never been mentioned in the books, so your perception should become slower while storing speed for the same reason. But I could point out some differences, for instance perception isn't a protection against increased speed. Without extra perception your body won't suffer any harm, it purely makes it more useful. Tapping too much feruchemical pewter doesn't give you the ability to move around as though you didn't have giant muscles. Increased reflexes could arguably be considered protection but that's not what happens, you get bullet time.
-
Then prove that they're relevant. I explained why they're not you never replied, how does a quote that says that the Dor powers something mean anything other than that the Dor powers something? I can provide plenty of quotes if you want but I didn't feel they're needed, my points are pretty basic not some obscure WoB from a long forgotten interview, they're popular pieces of information referenced repeatedly throughout the books. The former, though related to the latter, for example Feruchemy is powered by the feruchemist but the initiation is genetic and the source is Ruin and Preservation.
-
No they don't become more durable just able to withstand the weight increase, it's one of those feruchemical weirdness things like why doesn't tapping a bunch of strength rip your skin open or why doesn't tapping speed cause all of your bones to break when you take a step, you're immune to the direct results of your overtapping, not anything else. From the same place, storing it. If you retained your former strength when storing weight you'd be able to do all sorts of weird things, paradoxically you'd be able to lift larger objects because less stress is placed on you from your own body.
-
No, they are absolutely concrete proof, just not proof at all of the point you're trying to make. My point is that you haven't provided any quotes that are actually relevant to the matter that we actually disagree on.
-
No, but they don't become more durable when he taps, just able to support his incredible weight, an effect that I'm pretty certain is indeed reversed when storing.
-
I don't have one, you don't have one stating the opposite. So you'll have to decide if breaking the fundamental rules of feruchemy and getting increased perception when tapping without having to store it is possible for some reason or if your theory might be wrong.
-
Those don't exist. If there was a concrete quote concerning either I would have presented it, so I suppose you have to decide whether the slew of similarities mentioned count as enough evidence or if you'll just go with your theory. If you don't find that convincing then there's not much I can do.

You want quotes to prove that AonDor has Aonas name in it? Or that the Skaze run the Fjordell society? Or the obviously dominion-like traits behind the acquisition and use of the Dakhor abilities? Or that Devotions splinters are Aons?
-
I'm not ignoring anything, I'm directly stating why those quotes aren't proving what you think they're proving, you're stating things that I don't disagree with. Yes speed stores speed, that is self evident and was never doubted by me, so you don't need to post a quote that says that speed stores speed, posting that quote does not earn argument points that mean your other points are equally valid by association it just means that we can both now agree that speed definitely stores speed. Was that your only point? Because if not you need quotes that back up your other points, the ones we actually disagree on. Do you really need me to pull out quotes that support the assertion that steel speeds up your perception when tapped? It's pretty common knowledge but I can if you really want me to. Brandon openly points out that the two overlap on the matter of perception.
-
The ones you have provided aren't not valid, they're just completely irrelevant. You're proving things that I don't disagree with. And actually your quote says: Note the 'but'? That tends to imply that there is an exception to the previous statement, implying that those parts that are influenced by the Skaze are not purely ritualistic, implying that it does matter to the power. Mostly though this is Brandon just being typically vague to avoid giving away too much, which he even points out at the end of the quote.
-
Yeah I've never had a problem with it before, just used for security mostly.
-
That's stating what the Dor is made up of, that's also not in question. You seem to be arguing something completely different. To clarify: I agree that the Dor powers all magic on Sel I agree that the Dor is made up of both Devotion and Dominion I don't agree that the Dor is by necessity the source of all magic on Sel. Well there's the fact that one magic literally has the Shardholders name in it, picks particularly devoted people and is generally supported by and effects the Splinters of that Shard while another picks people in a rigid domineering society, works based upon principles of dominating others and is supported by the Splinters of the other Shard... not sure what more would convince you.
-
Literally anything other than what we already know it does by definition? If you store the trait speed it will store your speed, that was never in doubt, what is in doubt is whether it also stores other things. I didn't say it slows your mind only your perception. You're quite right, but the fact that tapping it definitely does speed up your perception does heavily imply (if not outright demand) that storing it must slow your perception, otherwise you're getting something for nothing which is not how feruchemy works. Well he was still breathing among other things so still not conclusive proof, but I'm inclined to agree on that front.
-
No, they use the Dor, that's not in doubt. It explicitly states that the Dor powers the Dakhor monks, not that it is the reason those powers exist.
-
Why? How? We have never, to my knowledge, been told that the Dor is the source of all Selish magic. Just that it is the power that drives it. We're not for instance sure what if any magic predates the splintering of Aona and Skai's Shards. SH spoilers

That doesn't really show much of anything, mental speed works pretty much exactly as I said, slowing your thoughts down. (Incidentally it is actually expressly stated in that scene that he is also storing speed) "He released his pewtermind, however, as well as his steelmind and his zincmind." The physical speed one just says that it drains his body of speed, which is kind of redundant. Doesn't go into any specifics at all.
-
Probably* We're really not sure on the limits of what can and can't be affected. For example we're still not entirely clear whether or not Atium and Malatium mistings are still actually possible, he swapped them in for the purposes of mist-snapping certainly but that doesn't mean there were no cadmium/bendalloy mistings.
