  1. Context is always relevant when you're talking about Elder Scrolls >.>
  2. ^ I know you guys have talked about aspects in excruciating detail before in the chat, so I'm avoiding any of that lest we start arguing about talking trees. I also wanted to point out that it's confirmed in Hero of Ages that an afterlife exists in the cosmere and that Shards are unable to affect them. Which kind of makes me think Adonalsium was a construct either born of necessity or created by something else to manage life in the cosmere and the physical and spiritual aspects.
  3. I created an article on Coppermind called "earthquales." So far, no-one can prove I'm wrong about my theory
  4. New use for a Pulser: Not having to listen to someone's rants or when you're being lectured you could just enter a speed bubble and waiting for them to leave will be seconds for you.
  5. You created that identity for yourself, no-one else chose to call you that, therefore it is personal to you in more ways than a name that was decided by someone else ever could be. I didn't choose to be called James, hell it's not even the best name I could think of. If anything I'd prefer Mat... or Kaladin. And even then I have a nickname so I don't get called James very often except by people I refuse to impart onto them my nickname You wear your internet pseudonym like a mask, protecting you from scrutiny; it empowers you, makes you confident and less likely to feel embarrassed when you feel you're wrong.
  6. ^ totally out of context maaaan.
  7. 1. I don't think it'd work anyway. My guess is it's like linking where'd you only Channel your own Power. A'dam at my best guess is a forceful linking. 2. I'd imagine the a'dam is topological, one controls the one below, that controls the one below that, and so on... 3. It's mentioned in The Great Hunt when Nynaeve straps one on to a captive suldam, she becomes aware of the suldam's emotions in a bundle and by pressing on it inflicted pain. Aes Sedai are aware of their Gaidin's emotions and whereabouts in much the same way. The first a'dam was created by an Aes Sedai, probably using this connection as a template, adapting it to work with others that Channeled. 4. What Aethling said. Unless it worked like some mutual shock treatment and could be used in carnal masochism... 5. A suldam only inflicts pain by actively doing so. If two suldam leashed the same damane I'd expect they'd have some agreement. A suldam that can't do anything for conflicting orders and near-constant agony would be useless in combat. Even then it would be redundant because suldam would just trade a single bracelet between themselves. 6. Pointless.
  8. I have all these in my printed copies ^^
  9. DRM at its worst? Heh, she's not played an EA/Ubisoft game has she. This is another reason I don't buy e-books, below the biggest reason of data loss (backups? what is this mythical process you speak of?).
  10. Daemon name generator for His Dark Materials aaages ago. It became my online identity from then.
  11. Hamony would never directly ask you to do something, that would break the balance. And that's the whole point of "praying" as a Pathian, for someone to listen and offer guidance. You would normally "pray" on an obstacle in your day, or actively seek guidance in your thoughts.
  12. I'd rather be a Pathian... "Praying" just means thinking to yourself for 15 minutes every day. I do that anyway so this is the perfect religion for me.
  13. I do not play with dice and I do not believe in coincidence.
  14. Well I've been pronouncing "Vin" as the French form for wine ("vahn") until I found out that was wrong. I still pronounce it my way though. I'm not the best to have an opinion on pronunciations
  15. Yup We speculate in chat what the other symbols are. Dragonwasps, for instance, is a complete guess. Shadesmar is always a reflection of the world that a person enters it from. Since it has been introduced in TWoK, the only map we have of it is Roshar's. Apart from that we know very little of how worldhopping works, only that Hoid is one and he's a manly man. And yes, that second image is Voidbinding. http://coppermind.net/wiki/Shadesmar
  16. Quick question... have you been on Coppermind.net recently?
  17. You guys are debating the drawbacks of exposure to a vacuum when the Third Trilogy will be set in the future relative to our own. They'll have the technology to build spaceships. Also, once a temporal bubble is down it doesn't move central to the Allomancer that put it up, it remains in a fixed location. It seems to be indicated in The Alloy of Law that speed bubbles are affixed to whatever plane they're attached to, whether that's the floor of a moving train or an immobile grassy hill. Space travel would be simple if they have a spaceship that protects those inside from the usual dangers of space, though I suspect they'd have to drop a bubble repeatedly to make sure they're not flying into a supernova. Also a standard Slider like Wayne compresses time on the order of 120 seconds -> 15 external seconds (The Alloy of Law, Chapter 12), or for every second inside the bubble, 0.125 seconds passes outside it. So external time flows at a 12.5% reduced rate of that inside the bubble. I don't know the rate for a Pulser but it'd have to be far greater than a Slider's to make space travel at large distances effective.
  18. Hey, it's in your presets. Blame whoever put it there
  19. Eric knows what I'm on about...
  20. You could just post the link...
  21. Ah, I see. I'm just now learning of that difference. Thanks Peter.
  22. Alloy of Law era Scadrial. Love the setting Brandon aimed for on that one and Allomancy is crazy fun with the right metals. Though I'd relish seeing another Mistborn zip around.
  23. You're forgetting that they still have had wars in the space of history from Artur Hawkwing. And a large contingent of Hawkwing's army had been sent across the Aryth Ocean to conquer the future-Seanchan lands. Tear and Illian have always been at each others' throats and it was only after the War of the Hundred Years did Andor expand westward to discover the Two Rivers and build Baerlon. Caralain was once a nation itself until its sudden decline which I can only guess was due to bad leadership. As far as I know, the Caralain Grass had little if any rivers running through it large enough to support trade vessels. With the level of technology in mind at the time, it would have been more beneficial to build large settlements nearer to the main rivers. Possibly another reason for its decline that it couldn't access these vital trade routes effectively to support the basic necessities of its population. And then came the Aiel War which engulfed most of Cairhien's population and even threatened Tar Valon. Take a look at Andor; one of the greatest nations and it can't even enforce the Two Rivers. It didn't have the man-power to send a military patrol force and tax collectors. With brigands and bandits in the wild no-one would expand into unsettled territory without a military presence. On Theoryland there's a rumour - a pretty good one - that Ishamael instigated conflicts intermittently in an effort to depopulate and destabilize the world in time for Tarmon Gai'don. Also, while you're in that thread CTRL+F "heartleaf" and you'll find that there is a herb used for contraception. All I can give you is that the culture and mindset of WoT's people is very different to our own.
  24. ¬_¬ I would like to announce that Emperor's Soul is 12 days away from publication here.
