  1. Gawyn became perhaps one of the worst characters in the series. Second to Cadsuane who I want to punch the most. It's been awhile but I've been wanting to mention how much I love Moraine's regaling of Manetheren's history. I welled up when instead of leaving to escape they - the villagers, women also - took up arms and reinforced the army, knowing death awaited them. And on the topic of realising things you missed on a first read, Egwene was bullheaded and annoying even in the first book. I remember I liked her more than Nynaeve, unfortunately, on my initial read.
  2. I figured this deserved a topic of its own. Why? Because it's awesome. Other than that it has a great magic system, very interesting characters and some beautiful artwork. http://www.casualvillain.com/Unsounded/ Synopsis: What grabbed me is how detailed the magic is, how technology is built around it, and the characters. Sette appears detestable at first but she grows on you as much as you realise Duane also has a secret side to him. There's only six chapters at the moment and I'm eagerly awaiting each new chapter.
  3. Yeah I forgot Hugh had those pipes on him. But he might be the only one that can do it justice. I've listened to Crowe several times and noticed he struggles with higher notes and raising his voice in general. As Javert he might struggle with Stars and Confrontation. Maybe I'm setting my standards way too high but Les Mis has an ineffable beauty I don't want to see underdone, ever. I will end up watching it because I like Hugh Jackman as an actor.
  4. I really hope we get She-Hulk too. The Guardians of the Galaxy plot line will be good if they're going to follow on with Thanos' cameo appearance at the end of The Avengers. Which might signal they plan to do the Thanos Imperative storyline. I've only read several of the comics (Iron Man predominantly) but this film translated each character perfectly. There was enough dialogue to fit in exposition for people that haven't seen the stand-alone films that they can understand and recognize each one.
  5. I love Will's rants.
  6. She could have enchanted the coins, but my best guess would be because they're ta'veren. Moiraine is a pretty prominent character; the Wheel might want have wanted her to find the boys on each occassion.
  7. Thom speaks in the plural tense with "kings." Are there any other instances in the series we know that might fit other than Rand pulling Callandor from the Stone?
  8. I like your list Feather. There's not much I disagree on if anything. The only one I wouldn't consider is Sean Maher as the Lord Ruler. I don't think I've ever tried to envision TLR in terms of actor analogues though and Maher is a good actor. For Kelsier I'm between Fassbender and Hiddleston but I can absolutely agree on Chris Hemsworth playing Hammond far better than Matt Cohen.
  9. Ran drugs. Brother a member of a law enforcement agency. If you tell me your dad is also an expert chemist this is shaping up like the plot of Breaking Bad. I'm thankful to have the parents I do, but that still doesn't excuse me of feeling annoyed at people that don't look after their family and can't manage money because they blow it on ridiculous garbage. Hugs to you all. I know that doesn't improve anything but I'm cuddly, apparently, so meh.
  10. You HAD to do it didn't you? Go and make me think; I hate thinking ¬_¬ OK, so the way I reason it is either Dalinar or Wax would fall first. Dalinar would have to rely on cumbersome and tiring tactics to wear his opponent down, considering he's fighting extremely agile opponents. Wax, as far as I can remember, was never that great at hand-to-hand combat and could be overpowered by any of the other three. Wax would have to think strategically more than Kelsier since he can only Lurch, while Kelsier can pretty much augment himself in every way, providing temporal metals are also available to Kelsier in this match. Szeth is the likely candidate: he's an all-round combat expert and the "perfect" assassin. Not to say that's a deciding factor, it's certainly a strong reason to believe so. If the outcome is based solely on strategic employment and factor in a little luck, then Dalinar could come out on top. His Shardblade is a powerful weapon. But we can't forget Szeth has a Shardblade... and Surgebinding. So in a clean fight, I'd have to say Szeth.
  11. NO! But go on. I'm glad you noticed that about Kristen too. I hate when they cast an actor purely for their looks and they botch the character up with their lack of acting skills. Acting is not an easy thing, I'll give you that - Light knows I struggled with it in college - but it's no excuse to throw in a person based purely on their aesthetics. Glad I didn't have to beat you over the head there EDIT: I also up-voted you, it should offset the negative rep but I do agree with that post also.
  12. I started mine two days ago but haven't made much progress. I think I can power through it though.
  13. Actually, Atium was well known from the first book and it does not grant you the powers of Ruin. Atium grants an Allomancer the ability to see into the near future for a short time, it allows a Feruchemist to store Age (becoming older themselves while storing, and younger when tapping), and it allows Hemalurgy to steal Allomantic temporal powers. Atium is the metal form of the body of Ruin. Allomancy is Preservation's Art and Rashek condensed the body of Preservation into the metal Lerasium, which he and his fellows ingested to become Mistborn. Hemalurgy is different to Preservation's power in that it steals powers - power is destroyed in the process. Feruchemy is a balance of the two which only Terrismen are known to possess. So to sum up: Allomancy is the Art of Preservation. Feruchemy is the Art of Harmony, and is possible because of the presence of both Preservation and Ruin on Scadrial. Hemalurgy is the Art of Ruin. There is no "Harmony" metal in Mistborn.
  14. Amnesia is a great game. Anyone that doesn't play it really is missing out on a great experience. I'm playing Dark Souls currently.
  15. I'll start EotW tomorrow at the earliest possible moment. I do have two other books to finish though so it won't progress much for the first few days.
  16. Awesome posts.
  17. I'd love to see you playing Dead Space. If ever you do please record a reaction video Back on Dark Souls at the moment: New Game+ ramps up the difficulty so I'm anticipating certain fights again.
  18. Why did I not think of this guy? Excellent suggestion. @jjesnson: I disagree with Rupert Grint as Elend, strongly. For one I don't think Grint can pull off the kind of charm Elend exudes. Not to say Grint is a bad actor, he's not great though, and Elend will be one of the hardest characters, alongside Vin, to actually characterize. He's full of subtleties and undercurrents of tension I haven't seen Grint able to master in any of his roles. Plus, Grint is fairly new to the big screen in terms of diversity, I don't think he's yet matured enough to adapt like veteran or natural actors can. We'll probably end up with the same bumbling fool Ron Weasley than the sharp, cynical, Elend Venture.
  19. Gift, ey? Late night coffee. I would like to announce I still can't find a job and I am hopeless. Hopeless I tell you! Oh, I haven't had a cig in a week and before then, 2 months. 'Spose that's about the extent of great things in my life. Yay me.
  20. Saw that not long ago. I love Gilbert Gottfried xD I've shared this in IRC and while it's not "crazy" it's something that definitely needs to be shared. Because it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling that I want to share with you all: http://www.azcentral.com/news/azliving/articles/2012/07/13/20120713bikers-against-child-abuse-make-abuse-victims-feel-safe.html
