  1. What RJ probably meant was that you couldn't heal actual insanity. The Taint creates a layer of "black thorns" in the mind that I'm guessing interfere with natural synaptic firing. By removing those thorns, as Nynaeve did, it removed the interference. Like a valve, if you turn it one way it narrows and strains the flow of water until it cuts it off completely. No water gets through. However, turn it fully the other way and the valve opens completely. Water flows freely and unobstructed. Just a thought but maybe insanity and the insanity caused by the Taint are two different things. Other than that I can only guess that RJ was being sneaky and saying, "you can't heal insanity with the One Power...yet."
  2. I haven't liked his character since The Fires of Heaven. Nynaeve bossing around a group of Aiel she's just met was hilarious. I was reminded how interesting the Aiel culture is.
  3. That's my thought too. Which is why every little thing Egwene says that could originally be chalked up to childish naivety or her learning curve annoys the ever loving hell out of me. Because all I've got to look forward to her is her prominent arrogance. I still wonder how Rand's battle with Ba'alzamon was possible though. Not saying it was implausible but to be fighting in the sky was a bit of a leap.
  4. I'm pretty sure I picked up a paperback Alloy last year a month after it was published. Waterstones say they've published it November of last year (paperback, I made sure) so I'm not sure what you mean? But I just checked and they also have another version (paperback again) that's released the 1st of November. I've put some links up below to the two. http://www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/products/brandon+sanderson/the+alloy+of+law/8446589/ http://www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/products/brandon+sanderson/the+alloy+of+law/8446590/ I'm confused o.O
  5. Joseph Gordon-Levitt should be in everything. ALL THE THINGS! That said, James Purefoy should be as well. I'm just trying to think of a role for him. And no, no animation. Except TenSoon because I imagine you'll need facial movements that aren't dog-like, and because I'm imagining TenSoon's form to be larger than the average wolf. This is why live-action is a good idea. Find the right actress and the film will look gorgeous with a talented director.
  6. It's from Old Norse originally. Huginn was one of a pair of ravens that flew all over the world to bring Odin information. The other was Muninn (lit. "memory" or "mind").
  7. Because we all like Avengers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfNzAXvZlWo&feature=related
  8. This isn't a debate about what is more ecologically and economically viable. We're simply explaining our preferences for either or. If you want to get into a debate about this you should create a topic for it in Tech Discussion. But I'm just going to say that electronic products offer as much environmental damages and costs as paper, and also the same solutions. What are computers, e-books, phones, etc. made from? Silicon and plastic, both of which don't bio-degrade. Regulating electronic waste is no easy task and there are worse problems to recycling electronics than there is to paper. We can currently hand in books for recycling at much lower costs, both to the environment and economically, than electronics.
  9. The Dragon Reborn ~ Robert Jordan And when I can be bothered I'll flip through some of Nietzsche's works and I still have Neil Gaimann's Neverwhere to finish.
  10. True but Mary Malone's hypothesis about "Shadow Particles" (Dust) has her funding revoked. Even the science institutes of our world couldn't accept the evidence she had for Dust. To me that said, can science ever really prove God? In that general sense HDM is also a criticism of science, albeit less so than religion. I'm not sure if I mentioned before my gripe with character development in the last two books but I didn't feel their progression was natural either. They seemed to be carried by the plot, rather than Pullman allowing the characters to mould the plot for him. They seemed... forced.
  11. I somehow remembered her being cool... Don't know how because she was a whiny sod. Mat hasn't annoyed me as much either, I can pass it off as the taint effecting him.
  12. When you have a long journey or have nowhere to charge your electronic device it can be a hassle. Plus if you're like me who forgets to recharge his phone before going out you have a real nightmare on your hands. I don't want to spend two hours on a damnation train with nothing to read. You only read one book at a time anyway so it isn't that much of a burden to carry around. Besides, nothing can beat the feel and the smell of a book.
  13. Kerry's actually a bear. Is it unique that I'm capable of losing my pen(cil) so easily?
  14. And anyone coming to you claiming the Crabwasps are the true Legion are subverting the truth. They are heretics of our order. Send their leader (Sweetness she goes by) to a detox clinic and listen to her when she's sober. Infact just don't listen at all. Dragonwasps!
  15. Silence you traitorous savage! You betrayed the Order of the Dragonwasps and you were even drunk on duty several times.
  16. I've never gotten past the whole idea of literary fiction before so I think your title is good. As for me, titles are the hardest part of books. I'm struggling to form one for a steampunk style novel I'm in the midst of outlining.
  17. Because I'm tight-fisted. Also, the thousands of other people that buy their own tickets to go see Brandon. You can still type up a thesis though. Granted, explaining the tactics of the Dragonwasps is a bit of a Catch-22 since they don't speak of their organization's internal structure to outsiders. You'd have to observe them first hand.
  18. No, you have to show up at a Sanderson signing wearing the crest on a hand-made WoK costume. If you can't make it to a signing then you just have to produce an extensive thesis on the Voidbringers and tactics for dealing with them as a member of the Dragonwasps.
  19. So when something expands to the edge of the universe, where does it go? Can it move beyond the boundary of the universe? Also, if the universe is a finite and measurable size, what's outside that spherical space (because we assume it's spherical). If nothing then it's probable it's infinite space and infinity is a hard thing to imagine xD
  20. Haha. The Ant Nebula is kind of ironically named. damnation. Now I'm thinking about the age old question of what's beyond the universe... Scientists say it's expanding, but expanding into what?
  21. Demons & Wizards - Crimson King http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnIdAAHLjF8
  22. Makes you feel small doesn't it? There was a similar one I showed my physics professor for our astrophysics module and he put it on the big screen for the class. There was a lot of exclamations of wonderment. When you study this sort of stuff, you can never really prepare yourself for the awe you experience at seeing that scale. That's when physics becomes poetry.
  23. Oh yeah I forgot about that. That was Fires of Heaven when he chased Rahvin. OK, but I still hold that Rand's shift at the Eye isn't illogical, what with Travelling being an instantaneous form of travel. Likely, the Eye bestows knowledge of all the possibilities of Weaves on the holder for a short time.
  24. You're also making a big deal out of being a female fan, Tamzin. I don't mean to sound rude but I can't understand why knowing someone's gender affects how you think about them. If you enjoy talking to them then just do it.
  25. Rand's sexual liaison with Aviendha was quite recent. Pregnancy won't be visible for roughly 12 weeks and she could hide the symptoms with her Wise One's dress. I think Rand's blood will be spilt from his old wound that never healed. Maybe that's what also kills him. Remember the other prophecy about Rand from Min's viewing: It's not solid but with everything else - the Aelfinn saying he must die to live again (which I think as the Dragon must die in one form to be born again in another), and Alivia, who will "help him to die" - I have as much reason to think he'll die as much as he'll live.
