  1. Well, amazon had it, so I've just finished it. Not everything how I expected it to be. I suppose if I'd had the whole book, I wouldn't have stopped until I finished everything.
  2. It has already been released. But only for those with a billing adress in the US/Canada. I'll have to stay away from these forums now, until I'll get a hand on a copy of the prologue... Arf. Have fun with it.
  3. If one is killed, the DO could take the soul, at the moment of their death, to transfer it. when balefired, the moment of their death is earlier (depending on the amount of balefire) so the DO could not grasp them. @Ryan. Suppose you mean Oran'gar/Aginor. Aran'gar/Balthamel was balefired at Natrim's Barrow with Graendal just escaping. And that amount of (Choeden Kal-enhanced)balefire surely was enough
  4. ok, I can accept that explanation. What about Oran'gar? he was only destroyed with Callandor-enhanced fire, not balefire. Of course it seems weird to bring him back for one book.
  5. about one third through FoH. Fain just retrieved his dagger in the Tower. When I read the prologue it escaped me, but this time I thought about Fain at the end of TSR. He had planned to go to Caemlyn before he went to the Tower. Yet, in the prologue he is already with Elaida. What did he do in Caemlyn? Assuming he really got there. He already pursues his own goals at that point. The evil of Shadar Logoth has replaced most of his Darkfriend-side. But he's still going for Rand instead of Shayol Ghul. I never thought about it before. But the Shadar Logoth evil destroys everything that is from the Shadow, so it destroyed those parts in Fain. That may be the reason why Fain has not been destroyed by the former. I don't know how Fain managed to carry away part of the evil instead. Moiraine told us in TEotW that you needed to carry away some part of Shadar Logoth to free it. Fain however does not seem to carry something. Could that evil just seep into him, so it could destroy the changings the DO had done to Fain, and thus be carried away? It seems clear to me, that Fain has slowly become the evil of Shadar Logoth itself, at least after the city was destroyed. His power over everything with a connection to the Shadow proves that. So when he left the Two Rivers, Fain had two main goals. Destroy Rand and destroy the Shadow. So far Rand did not have any connection to Caemlyn, so that might not be what he intended to do in Caemlyn. If it was to battle the Shadow, Caemlyn surely had some connection with the Shadow at that time. Rhavin posing as Gabriel, replacing the Guards with the White Lions. The Black Ajah only get to Caemlyn later, on orders of Moghedien probably. Does anybody have an idea, what Fain could have done in Caemlyn? Another thought that popped into my head. Could Fain cut a gholam with his dagger? I suppose he could.
  6. We don't know yet what Dawnshards are. Some believe that they are the Honorblades though.
  7. You're probably right of course, it's more that it appears to me that the revelation in the Prologue would be misplaced. But anyway, BS has probably done it at the exact right place, considering that AMoL originally would have included TGS and ToM. And considering that it's at least LoC that we're looking for Demi. Yes, but wait. Revealing Demandred in an excerpt two months before the whole book comes out? I'll just read it anyway. From what I recall, Robert Jordan only pointed out that Sammael is dead because we never actually saw him die. If there is mention somewhere about Mashadar having a similar effect as being balefired, that has escaped my attention so far.
  8. Dragonmount Edit. It can be bought already, release date has been set to today. a man who loves the hunt. Slayer? red veils, ok already seen them, nevertheless it makes me absolutely want to read it one of the Forsaken stand newly revealed. The only one who is not yet "revealed" would be Demandred. Yet, I hope Demis identity won't be revealed in the Prologue already. Of course there could be another one of the Forsaken that has got a new body. Afaik the ones who could (meaning those who've not been balefired) are Asmodean and Sammael and also Oran'gar (Aginor). Balthamel/Aran'gar has been balefired Be'lal has been balefired Mesaana is still alive, yet braindead Rhavin and Semi, balefired. the other five are alive (Ishi, Demandred, Lanfear/Cyndane, Moghedien and Graendal)
  9. finished about two days ago. According to my original plan I should've finished two weeks ago, but I might go faster when I'm done with my last exam tomorrow. TSR is the first really big read, 1000 pages in my paperback edition. I remember a blog post where someone tried to evaluate what the Forsaken did to stop Rand. Asmodean, being the weakest channeler really did better than most. Ishi with his three attempts, Balthamel being crushed by the Green Man, Aginor battling stupidly for the Eye of the World which Rand probably wouldn't have used without him. Be'lal with his trap in the Stone and getting balefired immediately by Moiraine. Asmodean at least managed a nice battle. Of course, later, Lanfear and Rhavin won't suck that much either. But it's funny. Asmodean. Becoming forsaken because he wanted endles Ages of music, immortality. Of course we know he must have done some pretty bad things, but he really does not seem that evil. Semi the torturer, Aginor creating Shadowspawn, Demandred and Sammael being generals in the War of the Shadow, destroying armies and cities. Graendal compulsing just anyone in sight and guarding pets, Rhavin equally guarding female pets for his pleasures. They all have some traits that show why they were feared in the Age of Legends. Yes, Ishi is just a philosopher, but we know nothing about Asmodean. But he is one of the Forsaken, the thirteen most powerful channelers in the AoL, so he just can't be as harmless as he seems.
  10. hi BenLoc and welcome to this community. I know, as a newcomer, you'll want to get your ideas out there, I've been through it and supposedly 95% of the other members. But most topics have already been discussed and even if thread-necromancy doesn't seem to be well seen, there is one, not very old that covers your idea. And when you've found them, one may realize that the idea was just stupid. As for my first theory I posted You'll get the thread about Szeth's oathstone and whether there is or not something more than just a rock about it here It has three pages so maybe you'll find something interesting in it. As for your theory, I agree mostly with Voidus, except on point 6, but so far there is no way to prove him right or wrong. Anyway watch out for admins, they use to spike newcomers through offers of cookies
  11. I just finished. It is interesting that Mat has some problems when he is fighting the High Lord Darlin in the Stone. That one is a Blademaster, but Mat has recovered all his HP and strength. He probably was only able to win against Gawyn and Galad because he knocked the first one out before Gawyin realised that Mat actually was an opponent and because Galad wasn't that good yet. Surely not far as good as a blademaster. It's amazing how short Rand's battle against Ishi was. In my mind it always took way more space than those few pages. And again, when the wondergirls are brought to the Stone by Liandrin, they are taken in a carriage with that fist holding bolts-sigil on it. We see that sigil twice after that . And it kills me not to know if it's indeed the same sigil and whose it is. any ideas?
  12. The black smoke reassembles on a strange island somewhere on our world and plays with people. Btt # some cosmere-spoiler talk # There is the connection between the black smoke from Shardblade-victims and the black smoke from Nightblood-victims. In the Warbreaker-annotations Brandon told us that it's corrupted spirit. Don't know if we can say it's canon but spirit would be the spiritual energy as in part of the Power of Creation. So there is some spirit that's corrupted. Assuming that the spirit originally belonged to Honor as the Creator of humankind on Roshar, one can assume that the spirit will at some point return to Honor. Of course inbetween the liberated spiritual energy could serve Odium as well. After all Honor and Odium are part of the same Power of Creation.
  13. Never noticed before that Mat's first POV-chapter is chapter 19. Only Rand and Perrin before that. And of course those girls. But never Mat. Suppose RJ didn't want to describe his dagger-caused madness. Anyway, one of my favorite scenes is going to be in the next chapters. When Mat fights against Gawyn and Galad and wins although starving because of his Healing.
  14. No idea what it looks like exactly, but we know it's a glyph. And you can find examples for glyphs here: I suppose you know that already but still. The sixth bigger glyph, representing Shalash or her order could resemble the 'shash'-glyph. Then, Kaladin has two other glyphs on his front, that actually mark him as a slave. IIRC they are the glyphs meaning Sadeas (or maybe Amaram or however that lighteye who took Kaladins Shardblade is named) And you can find the Sadeas-glyph on the map depicturing the warcamps or on the map depicturing the battle at the Tower. Of course there should be the same glyph for Sadeas/Dalinar on both of them but I never managed to find the corresponding ones. Which is probably because glyphs can be altered in any way to resemble whatever they are supposed to mean. I would suppose that a simple glyph to mark a slave wouldn't be as elaborate as the same glyph meaning the actual Highprince. Finally, about the position of the glyphs, I don't know much about them, suppose they are in the middle of the forehead. I just seem to recall that they could be hidden by somewhat longer hair.
  15. They were given the choice though. Liandrin asked them pretending that Rand was in danger. They never questioned in what kind of danger or how Liandrin would know about it. Yes, she threatened with the Black Ajah. But still the girls just followed, knowing very well that there was something suspicious about all that story. Min and Elayne - we've only seen Rand once but we've already fallen in love with him - say they're coming to help Rand. And later they're going to call Rand a woolhead. Change of topic. I'm surprised how many hints there are about Ingtar being a Darkfriend. Never even thought about it though, when I first read it.
  16. suppose anyone who could wield some Saidar/Saidin could at that. Just bind him up with the Power and let your heron-marked-sword/strange Aelfinn-spear/power-wrought-knives at home so he can't get to you. The only thing it could still would be to play with your emotions. Of course if you riot the Myrddraal-caused fear, I suppose some people would be very scared. But then, I don't suppose Rand is afraid of Myrddraal anymore. Like NOT AT ALL... Myself I'm on the point of the wondergirls going to leave the White Tower because some Aes Sedai (which is known to not being a friend of Moiraine) told them without giving any reason. How stupid can one be?
  17. The DO can't touch the world directly, Moiraine talks about it at some time. So he is indeed touching the world through his agents. However I don't think it was Aginor and Balthamel who were important in that way. They were only just freed and didn't really have time to do anything but find the Eye and prevent Rand from using it. I think the main issue of the battle at the Eye is Rand cutting that black string that (the way I understand it) connects Ishi to the DO. Ishi has always been the DO's main agent during the third age (Black Ajah, Trolloc Wars etc.). With the seals crumbling the DO's touch grows more important, ie the connection to Ishi (the string) grows bigger. With that one being interrupted it probably has to grow back... No he does not. Attention, this is spoilerific He never really confronts two Forsaken at the same time. In TDR Be'lal is balefired by Moiraine before Rand is off to battle Ishi. In TSR he battles Asmodean, in FoH it's first Lanfear then Rahvin, in ACoS it's Sammael. And almost everytime Rand has a hard time beating them. I suppose Rand could handle the weaker female Forsaken, but those are the ones he never meets.
  18. Did Szeth kill only leaders from Vorin kingdoms? I'd say we don't know about that. Dalinar will be occupied for some time at the SP. Once he'll have united the Highprinces, he'll either defeat the Parshendi or make Peace with them. The latter being the more likely solution IMO. Even if you're probably right about Dalinar, Windrunner, I'd still think that Roshar has to be united for the Last Desolation and not only Alethkar, everything going back to some Silver-Kingdoms state. I mean, Alethela had been the kingdom where the art of war was preserved so that the others could live in peace, but during Desolations there were normal people as soldiers, not only Radiants (who lived in Alethela)
  19. So you'd say it's more like a "the balance of power has shifted toward the Light" thing? That's too simple an explanation for my taste... All that talk of Moiraine about how close the end was, how small their chance of survival. The Dark One's touch on the world must have lessened in some way, for spring to come. Or the light side must have had some very substantial help . So, why did the touch lessen, or what did they do to counteract the touch? And what was the dark string?
  20. I wouldn't pretend to be able to understand the OP, but I think I got the idea behind it. He seems to believe that there were ten Oathgates in the Silver-Kingdom-Age. Ten Kingdoms, every one of which would have an Oathgate to access Urithiru. Now, if you suppose that the Oathgates still exist, and are still functional, there would be one in Alethkar, one would be in Jah Keved. One would be where Natanatan was. And the fourth somewhere in another Vorin kingdom. Taravangian has spread chaos everywhere. The idea of the OP would be that Dalinar, as Highprince of War, would discover the Oathgates and use them to Travel with his army to conquer the other Vorin kingdoms, to unite them and prepare them for the Last Desolation. Which would probably be Taravangian's goal as well. The idea in itself is probably not that bad, pure speculation of course but presented in a VERY bad way.
  21. Just finished it. TGH already waiting beside my bed. One thing about the climax. I never really understood in what exactly Rand & Co had struck their mighty blow to the dark faction. I mean, we see the results, spring is coming back, the Blight is quiet. But why? Rand destroyed the shadowspawn-army at Tarwin's Gap, but that shouldn't have any result on the weather. Aside from that, he mainly defeated Ishi on whatever plain of existence. I suppose it's TAR but it's difficult to say. Rand cut the black string that nursed Ishi. What did he do doing that? It's similar to Rand cutting Asmodean's connection to the Dark One, but Ishi does not seem to have lost his connection in TGH or TDR. Could be that Ishi was the Dark One's main tool to touch the world and the string was the evilness the Dark One put into Ishi Please help me out.
  22. ToM-spoiler in this post. Almost done with the book, they are going to leave for the Blight. People often have talked about Robert Jordan and his foreshadowing. Min's viewing of course is a nice example for that, but what caught me this time is the passage where the party is talking about the Waygate in Caemlyn and how it would have been desastrous if the Fades had already known the Waygate at that time, because they would have brought their Trollocs into Caemlyn by Waygate instead of just surrounding the city. No way that's coincidence
  23. I'm totally in! Actually I'm almost done with EotW and I discover the Great Reread only now, but anyway, I'm in. It's going to be my second reread in total.
  24. I would like to announce that I'm now starting my reread of the Wheel of Time in order to finish in January for AMoL (yeah, it probably will take that long)
  25. my turn in having finished all five books. While they had been recommended to me by lots of people, I don't really agree. Martin surely has an amazing style, his writing is easily better than most of what I've read before. It's like BS has said, the skill Martin has in describing characters won't be found elsewhere. However this is what bothered me, and I think this is why in this forum there are others like me, who didn't like the books that much. Nothing happens in those books. Don't get me wrong, I know very well that there is things happening all the time. Only, they happen elsewhere. They don't happen "on-screen". There was a battle there, another there, that one has been killed, that castle has been taken but it seldom happens in the POVs we get. What we get is intrigues, stupidities, people being stupid. After the disappointment of book 4, I was looking forward to ADoD, but martin managed to make boring characters even out of Jon and Daenerys. Seriously in the whole book Dany had one interesting scene: when she finally mounted her dragon. You see, as BS-fans, we are used to descriptions of fights, magic and battles. That's what we miss in Martin. My opinion of course.
