But what is Lerasium other than Investiture in solid form? Eating (and Burning) it alters your sDNA definitely. Tapping in a Nicrosil mind would 'fake' a different sDNA because there is so much more Investiture in your body. I mean, the AoL Ars Arcanum says that Nicrosil lets you store 'Investiture'
-
I don't believe you store 'effect' of Investiture. It's rather that you store you own Investiture. In using Feruchemy you always store some aspect of yours, storing Investiture would be like storing part of your Innate Investiture. When tapping a charged Nicrosil metal-whatever, you'd become a more powerful Allomancer. Like Elend was more powerful than Vin because he ate a Lerasium bead.

But there should be mental commands, right? I mean, we never got to know how the God-King was supposed to give his Breath away without a tongue. So I guess you can learn to command something without speaking. Like, for example, changing your hair-colour. When you speak a command, the mental image is way more important anyway, isn't it?
-
I wonder if a 'Self-Command' is the way Vasher and Denth hid their Returned Breath? Or is that already common knowledge and I just never stumbled upon that idea?
-
Well, english is not my first language. I wasn't really conscious of the meaning of 'pms'.
-
I think you should be very careful with giving away ANY knowledge about White Sand. As long as it's not published, the official policy here is to discuss it only in pms.

I think that royal locks also have something to do with Breath. I seem to remember that Siri was examined by a priest when she arrived at the Court of Gods. That priest said that she had a very strong Breath. There are other hints about how Breath can be stronger or weaker. The strongest Breath is of course the Returned Breath. The stronger your Breath, the more you'd be able to change about your appearance. Returned can change all of it. Those who are desended from Returned inherit the strength of a Breath, even if it's a "normal" Breath. Of course WoB says it's not genetics, but I think the strength of the Breath is involved somehow. Then. A strong Breath wouldn't automatically mean that you can change your appearance. After all strong Breath only means a stronger spiritual aspect. You also have to make the connection using your cognitive aspect. And that's probably where lineage makes the difference.

Theory: KR Destroyed Stormseat – Cause of Recreance
Telcontar replied to Confused's topic in Stormlight Archive
The Song only says that it were not the Listener's gods who shattered the plains. It may very well have been the Listeners themselves in a Voidform (forms of their gods). I'd make a distinction between the gods and Listeners using forms of gods. So during the Last Desolation the Voidbringers (Listeners using Voidforms) fought against the KR. Stormseat, being a city of the KR would be a nice goal to destroy for Voidbringers, right? The KR would rather be the ones defending Stormseat. -
Were Ruin and Preservation/Is Harmony blind to every type of metal or only to those that can be used in the Metallic Arts?
-
And could Blushweaver have been healed with a Returned Breath?
-
Ok, Susebron lacked his tongue, so maybe the Returned Breath was consumed during the process of Healing (do Returned Breaths do that, normally?). What if the Returned who received the Breath did not need any Healing? Can you stack Returned Breath? With what we know now about Healing oneself and perception (Kaladin's arm and scar), would Susebron have been able to regrow his tongue by changig his perception of himself? He must have had enough Investiture to do it.
-
What would happen if a Returned got another Returned Breath? (imagine Vasher concealing his Returned Breath persuading a Returned to give his Breath to him)
-
It wasn't until Taln appeared at the end of TWoK that the voidspren (red spren, seen by Syl, in Highstorms) appeared. And Taln's coming started the Desolation right? So what if, when the Desolation is ended, voidspren have to disappear again. Any Listener using a voidspren at that point would be left without a spren. And what's a Listener without a spren? Right, a parshman.

When posting the OP I came upon that drunkard again, the one who might be either Jezrien or Ishar. About the beard. Ishar ist not the only one having a beard. Jezrien has one. He's described in the Prelude to the SA and his chapter icon represents him with a beard as well. So I'd go with the drooling person in the prologue to WoK as being Jezrien rather than Ishar. As to Taln, remember that the prologues take place 6 years before the apearing of Taln or whoever that is in the Epilogue of WoK. So at the time of the prologue Taln probably was still being tortured. I say probably because you never know of course.

Thanks Garlick, suppose that's what happens when you stay away from the forums for a while.

In the Prologue of WoR, Jasnah meets an Azish man with a white birthmark/scar on his cheek, dressed in black and silver. While it is revealed at the end of WoR that that guy is actually the Herald Nalan/Nin, Herald of Justice, we don't know yet who is his companion (or do we? I don't know at least). Those two have two topics: first topic is Ash, the second is someone carrying a Blade. Ash I believe Ash refers to Shallash, who is the 6th Herald. The wiki says her nickname is Ash. Also, the second guy is worrying about her, because she's getting worse. I believe he is referring to Shallash destroying art all over everywhere. There have been people pointing out that Shallash is probably Baxil's mistress who is destroying art. From the prologue in TWoK we know that the Shallash-statue is missing in the Kholin palace. I suppose Nalan and his companion were strolling around the palace, passing by the statues, noting that the Shallash-statue is missing and that's what made the companion worry about her. The person carrying a Blade The spelling being 'Blade' instead of 'blade' indicates that they were talking about a Shardblade or an Honorblade. The companion states, that that Blade belonged to 'his Lord': I suppose they were talking about Szeth. From the prologue of TWoK we know that Szeth saw those two talking to Elhokar, the companion looking nervously around. Also those two were in the corridors when Szeth started his attack. The screaming starts just after Jasnah met them. The identity of the companion We know by now that Szeth was carrying Jezrien's Honorblade, the Blade giving him the Windrunner-powers. So if the companion was really referring to Szeth, then this would imply that the companion sees Jezrien as his lord. From the Prelude to the SA we know that Jezrien had been a king in his time before becoming a Herald. This would indicate that Nalan's companion was either a subject of Jezrien back then or that he is another Herald, recognizing Jezrien as their leader. I'm thinking that the companion is another Herald. He's referring to Ash: So, if Ash is indeed Shallash, a Herald, then the companion, using "we" might be a Herald too. He could just be another survivor of that time, but I think that's highly unlikely. Also the use of Shallash's nickname indicates a familiarity. So, conclusion: those few lines show us three different Heralds. Nalan, Shallash, and a third one. Male, not Nalan, probably not Jezrien, not Taln, so either Kalak or Ishar.

Yes, similar to those. I tried it out for the Prologue of WoR, need to remember all those editing commands, it's been a while

I'll go for the War of Reckoning-article, one of my babys. And then, although this is not necessarily WoR-stuff (although there is new information of course), I'll update my old Investiture article as well.

Hej guys, WoR-caused Cosmere-fever brings me back. I'm starting my reread of WoR, taking notes along the way and that gave me an idea. I'm not really interested in writing chapter-summaries, I tried and I really don't feel comfortable doing it. BUT, I think it might be cool to have some kind of dramatis personae/formal introduction at the beginning of each chapter along these lines: Title symbols (that includes the Herald/Hoid-heads for the SA) epigraphs Characters appearing on-screen 1. POV character 2. Other main character 3. Others Characters mentioned My goal would be to collect all characters in a way similar to the wot-encyclopaedia. The listing could make it easier to find out about hidden characters, worldhoppers, aliases etc. Also, as in the wot-encyclopaedia we could include notes that explain some things. What do you think?
-
@Shardpolice, sorry for the double-post, I hope you'll understand why I'm doing it. @PorridgeBrick. Depends very much on the definition of "sentient" in the Cosmere. And consider: those grumpy guys wouldn't probably have built anything resembeling civilization. So they might still go around like animals if their ancestors wouldn't have got their Innate Investiture. Also: parshmen for example. In my opinion they're drabs too. And what happens to them if you don't take care of them? They just keep doing nothing until they die. I hope my question and especially Brandon's answer got recorded by bartbug, so he could shed a little light here. I still say Brandon confirmed that drabs don't have Innate Investiture.

so here's a summary of the whole Q&A. I omitted some answers to which you'll already find anwers out there or which I think are of no relevance here. Please tell me, if you want some more information on something. 1. Working title for the next Stormlight book? Stones Unhallowed, he said he will have to change it. And who knows when he [Patrick Rothfus] will release his book, so Brandon might be first in line calling it "Doors of Stone" (obviously joking). 2. Whether Brandon would work again with Michael Kramer, Kate Redding (not sure about the names) They're good, they ask for pronounciation guides (not always follow them) , wonderful to work with. He likes to have 2 readers (man and woman) 3. Illustrations in WoK, How has working with illustraters changed the way he sees his worlds? 4. Is there going to be a sequel to Warbreaker? Yes, but it's way off. Has to get into cracks somewhere Sequels: Next one to write ist SL3 (Stones Unhallowed), he'll probably start later this year Till then, sequel to Rithmatist, Firefight is finished (sequel to Steelheart) both are going to be small series (3 books long) He's planning to do the last one of Alcatraz, slip it in somewhere. Elantris sequel is way off, AoL sequels are pushed back to after Stones Unhallowed. Sequel to Legend will come "soon" 5. There are minor characters in WoK, will they be in WoR? Yes, Axis, the Collector for example. More talk about Interludes in general. 6. Has anybody read the WoK on any other world, particularly Sazed, Elend or [unaudible due to laughter]? The Way of Kings as a novel is known off-world, but not on any of the planets you mentioned. At least not currently. 7. Will you ever write any chapters from the POV of a spren? Likely that he eventually will, but probably as an Interlude. More talk about main characters in SA and structure of SA. 8. How do you build that huge amount of worlds? 9. Is the SA coming out on graphic audio? Likely. 10. How do you keep track of all your different worlds? 11. Which of your books would you like to have turned into a movie and who would you want to direct it? Mistborn and Joss Whedon (Robert Rodriguez as 2nd choice) 12. How did your time with WoT affect the way you did SA?
-
Ok, now that would explain the laughter when he mentioned that title I didn't get it then. So that's very probably not to be taken seriously. As far as I remember there wasn't talk about another working title, but he mentioned "Stones Unhallowed" at least once in relation to another question. Also @Windrunner. As I've been off for a little while: what's the procedure to get the information "official"? Meaning: citeable for the coppermind wiki for example (planning to work this into my Investiture-article obviously ;-) ) I don't remember exactly how Brandon phrased it. Maybe bartbug has it (he said he had recorded most of the signing and I think I was about in the middle of the queue). But I was under the impression that he really meant that drabs don't have Innate Investiture "at all". Consider that everything (literally: every "thing") in the Cosmere has a "soul". Innate Investiture is only what makes humans sentient. Drabs just aren't sentient, that doesn't mean they don't have a soul anymore. That's at least the way I understand it.
-
Thanks Windrunner! I'm actually in the United States (CA obviously) for six months to do some research so I'll be pretty busy, but I'll try to hang around, at least for some Stormlight speculation As to the working title, he talked about "Stones Unhallowed" but then elaborated a little bit more, I believe something about "Doors of stone" but I'm not sure. I'll get back to you with the precise answer, probably this evening. Exactly my thoughts and why I think that the part was interesting. Assuming that Honor was the "Creator of humankind"/the "Almighty" then one would think that Honor is responsible for human's sentience on Roshar.
-
I have the Q&A too, though apart from that WoK-question, the rest was mostly usual stuff like the working title of Stormlight 3. The exact WoK-question and answer was: Q: Has anybody read the WoK on any other world, particularly Sazed, Elend or [unaudible due to laughter]? A: "The Way of Kings as a novel is known off-world, but not on any of the planets you mentioned. At least not currently." My question at the signing was: Q: On the planets in the Cosmere, we've seen so far, do all of the humans have Innate Investiture? A: He said that we hadn't yet seen the planet, where the humans don't have it, so yes, the humans we've seen have Innate Investiture. He was explicit about Scadrial and confirmed that drabs on Nalthis don't have Innate Investiture. Rosharians have it. Q: As to the Innate Investiture on Roshar, which Shard is it from A: RAFO Interesting parts (at leats in my opinion): There is a planet in the Cosmere where humans don't have Innate Investiture. And: humans on Sel have Innate Investiture. I'll get to you if there is some other interesting point on my record.

Oh yes, I didn't even think about that. I should have a voice memo function in my phone I'll try to do that
