  1. I assume a lot of people on here are fairly young(ish)? @bleeder I can tell you from my own experience that when I feel like my life is racing by and I can't keep up because as soon as I adjust, it changes again... well, it's because I need to learn to accept that change and growth are always happening. It's heartbreaking at first, because sometimes I have to let go of things that are familiar and comfortable, but adapting to change and strengthening resilience actually makes me feel in control of my life, ironically. I didn't realize that until about 22/23 years old, but for the past few years it's helped so much. And it's absolutely true that nobody has a grip on their lives, but if you're always ready for change then you can sail the winds rather than be blown over by them. Eh, I hope that helps a teensy bit...? And *hugs* if it doesn't.
  2. I've only been in one fight before, and it was more of a cat-fight and I was much younger so it doesn't really count. I have, however, given myself a black eye from having a seizure, so I sort of know what the aftermath is like...? Heh.. (Doorknob vs Tristan's face--doorknob won ) Maybe I'll switch from fight scenes to "dance-off to the death" scenes.
  3. Ahhh maybe bronchitis or something. That can make you cough so hard you puke. Whatever it is, I hope he feels better. ~~~~~~~*positive vibes*~~~~~~~~
  4. For me it's Jasnah. She walks a different path, despite what others say or think of her, and she's rational and pushes people to be their best. She's also cynical and dare I say a little bitter
  5. Is it a wet or dry cough? Is he running a fever? Certain types of pneumonia can make you vomit, and if his oxygen is low his lips will turn blue. If they've given him medicine he could also be having a reaction to it. Is his mucus thick and white or rust/brown? (Going into nurse Tristan mode) MOVE ASIDE, PEOPLE
  6. I'm getting an EEG done tomorrow and I'm quite nervous. Neurologist thinks I'm having multiple seizures a day. I went through a period where they told me I didn't have it anymore, and now it's back and a bit worse than before. That part isn't bad, it's just getting my hopes up that it was gone for good that's kinda bumming me out.
  7. Yes I know this is backtracking a bit, but I liked this question and I'd like to give my answer if that's alright I love writing fight scenes because it gives me a chance to incorporate the environment naturally, as well as the emotions of the characters involved. If X punches Y unexpectedly, I'll write about how Y grunts as he stumbles into the table, knocking the empty bottles to the floor. Patrons scatter to make room as X swings again before Y is ready, and Y clenches his teeth as he topples over the bar, landing on the shattered glass. He sees a gun behind the bar, but he's never used one before. He doesn't have time to guess what would happen if he failed to fire and X wrangled it out of his hands, as X lifts him by his collar and pulls his arm back for another blow. Y has time to raise his arms over his head and shuts his eyes in anticipation. What the hell does this guy want from him? A knee drives into his stomach, and Y's arms instinctively wrap around his torso, leaving his face open again. He curses, tasting blood in his words, as the next strike hits him. Etc, etc. I'm not that great at it, but I love it anyway.
  8. Perhaps this should go somewhere else, so correct me if I'm posting this in the wrong place, but which Sanderson character do you most relate to, or think you are most like?
  9. Awwww the FEELS. I love a good, romantic how-we-met story. My boyfriend and I met on Tinder. You could say our story is pretty romantic... lol
  10. My good news is that I got a gym membership for the first time ever today. We'll see if that still classifies as good news tomorrow...
  11. I've only heard of a couple of these. I'll have to check the rest of them out
  12. That is awesome, I played clarinet, too! (I was only ever average at best, though.) The world definitely needs more musicians. The world also needs people who follow their callings. Sounds like you're 2 for 2 @StrikerEZ @kenod What's your favorite book(s)?
  13. @Darkness Ascendant It was a very strange time in my life. I'll be set if I ever decide to write a horror novel, though! Lol
  14. What are your hobbies/passions/interests? Do you have any projects or interests that you'd like to do or learn about? I'm passionate about writing; I've been writing ever since I learned to read (I'm a slightly better at it now than I was at four years old, though). My goal in life is to publish a book, but I'm so self-conscious about my writing that nothing is ever good enough for people to read, so that makes it a little difficult. Lol I did enjoy the writing exercise in the Creator's Corner forum I did a few days ago, but that was just a quick story I whipped up to distract myself for a few minutes, so if anyone happens to see that post, please don't judge my writing ability off of that. I'm also a bit of a gamer. I love games with strong stories, like KotOR, Pillars of Eternity, and Assassin's Creed games. I'm currently playing Thief, which I like quite a bit. Of course I'm also a big reader, like I assume most people in this forum are. Sanderson is my author crush, along with Naomi Novik. I used to have quite a bit of artistic skill when I was growing up, but public education art classes killed that for me. Now, however, I'm trying to rekindle my love for art by practicing watercolor painting. I'd also like to learn archery, because I think it's totally badass (excuse my language, but it really is). Anyway, that's what I'm up to these days, now what are YOU in to? (...or is it 'into?' Well, you get what I'm saying.)
  15. Does anyone else lucid dream?
  16. I have the superpower of making people groan with my horrible sense of humor. (e.g Friend: "How do I look?" Me: "With your eyes.") Also my supernatural range of epic facial expressions matches that of the hallowed Jim Carrey.
  17. My dreams are usually a little on the dark side. Once I dreamed that I was escaping a sinking ship. I was climbing up these jagged black cliffs, looking down periodically to see my ship crumbling away in a river, but the river was made of smoke. When I climbed onto a small plateau, I noticed that there were ravens perched all along the sides of the cliffs--thousands of them--staring down at me. Three of them landed in front of me, and they started cawing, leading all of the other ravens to do the same. They grew louder and louder until I thought my ears were going to bleed, and then suddenly all of them united into one deep, demonic voice saying "he is coming for your soul, he will devour your soul" over and over again. The night before that, I dreamed I was getting up and following my morning routine as normal. I looked in the mirror and noticed a little black speck on my cheek. I thought maybe I had rolled over onto something in my sleep, so I picked it off my face and realized that it was attached, and that was just the tip. I watched the mirror in horror as I drew out an oily black root from my cheek. The night before that one, I dreamed I had maggots burrowing into my gums. I have no idea why those dreams were happening back-to-back like that, but needless to say, it was a restless few nights. Lol
  18. I have never heard of neurodivergence before, but I can tell you that I have anxiety and have gone through severe, lengthy bouts of depression. I also have epilepsy, which wasn't diagnosed until I was 15, so up until then people just thought I was weird and flighty and really out-there (that's not to say they were 100% wrong, though, as I'm kind of an artsy-fartsy goofball anyway), and I was bullied pretty bad up until my teen years. I deal with it just fine now, but up until just a few years ago it felt like a good chunk of my life was a nightmare. I don't know what you are going/have gone through, but I personally would not choose the cure, no matter how many panic attacks, low points, or seizures I have. All those experiences shape my personality and perspective, and they allow me to better understand people who have had similar experiences. Not sure if it's worth anything, but that's just my opinion. I can see on the flip side how it would be different for someone else, though.
  19. I definitely respect religious people--most of my family is religious and I was raised Christian--but this is kind of why I became an atheist. Personally, I don't think it's necessary to love everybody, but I will always help and connect with a fellow human when I'm able to (and plants and animals, for that matter--I'm the crazy person who saves the spider in the house instead of killing it). I just strive to be what I consider a good person, and let other people worry about what's considered good and bad. I'd probably make a good Christian again, but I just really, really can't force myself to believe there's a god out there, and I hear that's kind of a big part of it. Lol I do respect people of faith, however, and I don't mean to offend anyone!
  20. @Darkness Ascendant @StrikerEZ Thank you! I have a yellow ring around my pupils so it makes them look more green sometimes.
  21. Stately, plump Buck Mulligan came from the stairhead, bearing a bowl of lather on which a mirror and a razor lay crossed. And then the murders began. --Ulysses, by James Joyce
  22. I thought I was on the last page of this thread when I was on page six, so I'll just go ahead and say to all the people I upvoted on or around that page: don't worry, I am not stalking you! I'm definitely into anti-beauty pics so it's hard for me to find an actual photo where I'm not making a Jim Carey face. I've got dark brown hair, blue-gray eyes, and in the summer I'll get freckles across my cheeks and nose. I'm a member of the short society, but I like to think of myself as "scrappy-looking." Here is a picture where I tried to keep my eyes open in the sunlight... But here is a much more accurate depiction. This was when I lightened my hair; it's much shorter and darker now.
