Personally, if a book's selling points are the violent/steamy scenes, I most likely won't read it. I don't mind reading about those things, but it seems like the quality of writing suffers for it. There are exceptions, like Outlander and Game of Thrones, but the plot and characters in those stories definitely outweigh the sex and violence in what makes them interesting reads.

I think the princesses would win simply because it seems that non-evil women in general are also Superman's weakness. Lol

What are you playing right now?
Tristan replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I'm playing Thief, but I'm looking for a game that's story-heavy, like Pillars of Eternity or the KOToR games. Any suggestions? -

I'm sick right now, and though I powered through Sunday and somehow made it through work yesterday, I will probably have to stay home today. On the bright side, my boyfriend is taking wonderful care of me. That last part is my good news. Lol -
What's the most interesting thing about yourself?
Tristan replied to Erunion's topic in General Discussion
This is how I come up with ideas for stories! I have no idea what could be interesting about me. Um... I'm a really good cook...? I sing duets with my sister in weird voices...? I won't drink out of a glass from the cupboard unless I sniff it first...? Lol -
This sounds fun I'm a fairly short girl with a thin but curvy frame, for whatever sense that makes (I've got it going on in the front and the back lol) I have big blue-gray eyes with a yellow ring around the pupil, and thick lashes. I have dark, arched brows and almost black short wavy hair and pale skin that gets a little freckly across the cheeks and bridge of my nose in the summer. I have pretty soft features overall. My nose turns up a little like a pixie, and I have a pretty defined Cupid's bow and medium to full lips. I've been told I have a trustworthy face, whatever that means.

Do you normally lucid dream?

Dreamed that I tore my skin open and it was all black inside... creeeeeepy

I got INFJ, the Advocate. Definitely makes sense in the workplace. I help coordinate care and provide resources for elderly and disabled people so that they can be more independent. Plus I'm all about teamwork, but I will put my foot down and take control in the name of fairness, which I had to this past Friday actually, even though the client I was defending was downright mean and nasty. Lol

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!

@Darkness Ascendant I rarely drink, but I had planned on letting my hair down (ironically I pinned it up for once) for this particular party. Good drinks, classy people, lots of fun dresses and swing music. Don't play your judgeridoo at me, it was worth it lol As far as your situation goes, I know it has been said before and I know you're aware of it, but that really is messed up. Why do your parents keep invading your privacy like that?? And punishing you for trying to help someone--that's... not ideal. -

Drank a bit too much at a 1920s flapper party last night and left my iPhone in an Uber car. On the bright side, the party was loads of fun. -

Eureka! I had an epiphany today in regards to the story I'm writing. Like most things I write, I originally had the idea from a dream, but I have had this huge plot hole hanging in my face for a long time. Today (oddly while in the bathroom) I figured out how to beautifully tie all of the pieces together! It was one of those "why didn't I see it before" moments. Anyway, I'm very, very happy. -

@Darkness Ascendant Don't forget to direct some of that love to yourself, friend. I can relate to so much of what you've shared, and it hurts to see YOU hurting. Trees can offer all sorts of things, but they've got to soak up some of the sunlight for themselves, too. -
I just read the first post--I will come back to read the others later. I cannot say how much I love this.

I had this exact same feeling when I was in high school. I went to college for a bit as an English major because I'm a decent writer, and it turned out that the path I was on would lead me towards being a teacher, which I didn't want to do. I decided to take a break from school, and now that it's been a few years, I'm ready to go back and study something that probably won't land me a high-paying job, but the knowledge alone will be priceless to me. The point is, there's no right or wrong way to do things. I felt like a failure for a long time because I didn't finish school right away, but I realize now that I only felt that way because I was comparing myself to everyone around me, rather than accepting that I can make my own path. Also, if you choose something and then realize that it's not what you wanted, there's nothing stopping you from going back to learn something else. It's never harmful to be more educated. -

@Flynn I loved the Dan Wells post! That format is helping me so much when weaving plots and sub-plots together. Thanks! -

Ask someone from Chicago to talk about his car keys and everyone outside of Chicago will think he's talking about his pants. Similarly, I had no idea that pop meant the same thing as soda until I lived in the Midwest. Likewise, Midwesterners didn't know what a pig pickin' was, nor did they understand why I had to make one syllable words into two syllables (pen to me was pronounced pay-en for a long time). My southern accent comes out sometimes, though it's pretty muddled at this point. Unless I'm fixin' to drank some good ole southern swait tay. ...okay it's not that bad.

Not exactly fantasy in the traditional sense, but Watchmen got me through some of my dark times. If I'm in a good place in life, I usually read fantasy. If I'm in a low spot, I gravitate towards darker sci-fi. Hmmm Either way, reading helps me, too, as does writing. If I ever hoard anything, it would be books and writing materials.

I swear I had a dream about this a few years ago! I was listening to the tinkling song of dawn, and I ventured into the woods to find out where it was coming from and could hear songs of all the living things around me. Couldn't do anything with it in the dream, though. I'd like to hear more about this
