  1. I have nothing to base it on other than my gut - but I wonder if SA ends with Shard mergers instead of shattering. I.e. Cultivation, Odium, and the splintered Honor are all absorbed and merged into Unity - with a capital U. Thus Rayse is defeated, but not through - what I had assumed would come previously - shattering, but through merging with less angry shard(s). Edit: Forgot to add my "hope" to this as well. We've seen on screen Dalinar called a Son of Odium (for his Thrill addiction and Odium's guidance) and a Son of Honor (as a KR). With Cultivation having personally "adjusted" Dalinar in both a way to make him a better man, but also to force him to come to terms with his decision (because she can see the future better, and saw what Odium was planning for him) as a way to help him not become Odium's Champion. I can also see him being a "Son of Cultivation" now as well. He is the only person (I can think of, feel free to correct) who has been touched by/seen all 3 Shards (or their Cognitive Shadow). Sounds pretty close to the "set up" that Sazed had before grabbing Ruin and Preservation. So Maybe Dalinar himself will become Unity at the end of SA. =D That'd make me pretty happy.
  2. Makes sense =) Oh well was an idea anyways, not all ideas pan out. You guys are the experts on how this thing works so i default to your expertise. Thanks to taking the time all of you to respond and answer.
  3. Hmm I'll try again in my explanation - not sure if it will help. When I said digital copies i meant kindle books that are searchable, as opposed to paper books, audio books - sorry for poor verbiage) I wasn't thinking to link whole copies of the books for people to read - I understand that isn't fair use. My thought was place a copy in Arcanum as a source, hidden from view in it's entirety (so people can't just take/steal a copy), but when you search for key words, the sentence in a book with that key word would come back alone with any other WoBs. Something like I search "Zahel" - in addition to returning all relevant WoBs, it also returns each individual sentence in SL1, SL2, SL3 that contain it as well. That way people who only have the paperback/hardcovers can still search the books for relevant material without literally read reading entire sections. If showing the sentence was even to much, perhaps give a page and paragraph (but to me that seems like it'd be more complicated. I hope that explained my thought better :/
  4. Ok - I'm now into part 4. This is even more obvious now. That's what I get for posting in excitement when she used a color for a curse (crimson). After using the cloack as a shield in a fight, and hair color change while in CR, and referring to Vasher as her sword master I think's pretty set obvious.
  5. I haven't finished OB yet - and I haven't read this forum yet because of it. Just wanted to come here and say: I think Azure is Vivienna I'll go away now and come back when I finish the book.
  6. Not struggling at all! I had to wait a week to start and i'm about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through already. I read lots of comments (non-spoiler ones) from Beta readers and others talking about crazy highs and crazy lows, but I haven't felt that yet. I have yelled at the characters a few times telling them they were stupid or "how could you know see that" That's a good thing for me because it usually indicates I'm invested in the character and their story. I'm happy with it, no issue and not struggling.
  7. To the Arcanists, I mentioned it once buried in a thread before you guys went live - but thought I'd ask again. Can we link digital copies of Brandon's published books to Arcanum, for those of us reading the paper version it would make searching and citing much much easier. I feel like this would be well within fair use, I wouldn't be surprised if Brandon gave a digital copy just for this, but I'd totally be willing to buy it myself to facilitate this addition. What I don't know is is it even feasible/realistic (you folks are the smart ones on implementation).. Thanks for the time
  8. Maybe it's been mentioned else where and I haven't seen it. But one theory I've been considering reference the secret... Maybe someone found the Heralds, discovered that they were alive and had quit. I could see how the KR would feel betrayed by that and possibly end their oaths and walk away just as the Heralds had. I can see how hiding that fact would allow it to be used again, since most of the populace believes the Heralds have moved on because they won, or will come back and save them for the final desolation. To find out the Heralds quit and probably wont help, would likely be just as devastating again.
  9. I have nothing against that statement, seems logical to me. I just wanted to point out that they don't have to be metal, so implying their aluminium because it's a non-push/pull allomantic metal seemed kinda unlikely with so many other options that meet that need. If I recall many Kandra had different sets for different reasons. I could see crystal for fighting - can push/pull, add's exrta mass for hand to hand, and probably more stability. I could see using wood in a pinch because they need'ed something to form off of an maybe their previous one was damaged or lost. Lots of options here for a variety of materials.
  10. But the Kandra bones don't have to be a metal. They could be crystal, or wood, or real bone. So if the reason is to avoid Allomantic push/pull there are still plenty of options that aren't aluminum. Because of that I do suspect it's more of a bling thing, or maybe a way to carry "emergency" funds, just sell a finger bone in a pinch.
  11. I would change the age at which he started writing and was picked up by publisher - for the express purpose of ensuring the finished arc.
  12. I can imagine a Space Elevator, based on the platforms Navanni drew. The counter balance from space being asteroid on interstellar goods going down the gravity well, to provide the force of lift passengers or other materials. We already see faster than light communications with Spanreeds, so I imagine written or textual space comms would be very simple, maybe be even automated to an auto draw thing to transmit pictures. Or span reads acting like modems and then image tools pulling in the binary result for processing. For transportation I see more a MagLev style thing but with Lift "slicking" the rails so its just air resistance for speed. Alternating gravitation fabiral acting like polar switching magnets to provide the push. Lightweaver movie theaters and "Public Announcements" Single use or maybe multi-use precharged first aid kits that use progression. Anyways just wild brain storming
  13. Just want to toss in there that for Stormlight specifically, there was some talk iby a few of the admins (Chaos and Mestiv I think? - I cant find the tread right now), of standardizing the Stormlight names to SA1, SA2, SA3 etc, because with 10 books we may end up with duplicated initials, and we are in the case of Oathbringer, making a OB initial out of what the author writes as a single noun. I think the discussion was only for main sequence, books so novellas and such would not be "2.5" or some such. The current method does have the unfortunate side effect of make a Novella about Awesomeness have the abbreviation for erectile dysfunction. No idea if abbreviations are a group conscious/think decision or managed by admins, or just kind of what makes habit stays... Just trying to share a related discussion.
  14. @teknopathetic @Calderis Thanks for Potion Making - Considering Fjorden conquer many counties on that continent and subjected them to She-Dereth. Perhaps it is specific to one of the areas that was not originally theirs. If I recall ChayShan is of Jindo and that is now part of Fjorden under Shu-Dereth. @Windrunner Thanks for the post on Forgery - that is what I suspected (I put it in spoilers because I mentioned other non-Elatris things). Nice to know I was on the right track with that one at least =) @Spoolofwhool Thanks for BloodSealling, totally forgot. I can see it's Dominion requirement being met by the fact that it seals a location, or seals Investiture into some bones. Thinking about it I'm pretty sure they mention BloodSealers are from a region outside of MaiPon, but I'll have to reread it. so it may again be a case of birth location to use it, but effects is limited to physical location it was used.
  15. Original Dune Series Expanded Dune Series or Firefly The Emperor's Soul
  16. I truly hope this -Post link- fixes a lot of that and allows much better maintenance of the CopperMind. I image once it's finished it'll be a mad scramble and hard push on updating/linking the articles and page clean up. Searching Theory land is a huge pain since the search function sucks so bad - at least it's something though.
  17. So there was some discussion on other threads related to this but I kind of wanted to summarize my "theories" on Selish Magic in one place. Some are my own, many are influenced by reading others ideas here on 17th Shard. Brief History summery: Dominion and Devotion were on Sel, both were shattered by Odium, and then "stuffed" into the CR to prevent them from being taken up by another Shard holder. Since that time they have mixed and become their own system of Dor. 1st premise: Location based aspect Magic of Sel is related to Dominion (meaning claimed or sovereign location) ** 2nd premise: Since the Shards have merged in the CR nothing is pure one shard or the other anymore (except maybe the Seons/Skaze?) 3rd premise: There are four 6 "known" magics on Sel: AonDor, Dahkor, Forgery, ChayShan, Potion Making, and BloodSealing So on a spectrum from Devotion at 0 and Dominion at 10 I'll try to explain how I think they mixed to produce the variety. I don't think there are any 0 or 10 because there is no pure thing of either shard left. My thoughts are: AonDor is more Devotion but became geographically restricted because of the Dominion added to it. (A 1 or 2 - mostly Devotion with hint of Dominion) Dahkor is more Dominion - has to be in Fjorden, but even more specifically to a monastery, and the rune have to be carried in the physical bone structure (location) of the body. But it has some Devotion in that it must be done to Religious Monks (A 8-9 mostly Dominion with a hint of Devotion) ChayShan is Devotion in action (mental focus/meditation) but Geographical restriction to Birth place. They can carry their magic out of their area, but still have to be Devoted to it even at home. (A 4-5 slightly more Devotion) Forgery is Dominion in action (that the seal must be in proximity and contact with what it changes to have an effect) and Devotion in production, devoted to research and picturing the intended outcome. But since so far it appears to be also geographically locked by birth place restriction (i.e. born there to use it, but finished objects can still move) I look at to be more Dominion based. So a 5-6 on the scale. Potion Making I got nothing here See smart people posts below for more info Blood Sealing This one I think is similar to Forgery in that the Dominion requirement is met in that it has to be placed in a location to seal / unseal Other spoiler based theories below. **(Disclaimer for some this is a Theory based on definition and tangential evidence, there is no explicit WoB)
  18. @The One Who Connects Cool! So we have consolidated info that does give concrete evidence that Skai was holder of Dominion. Clearly the Coppermind needs work, but I believe it's still a valuable resource none the less. As I have no idea how to update a wiki, will you/can you add the citations to that line so others don't have to recreate your work or delay a forums response to spend 30-45 minutes leapfrogging WoB to theory thread to Wob to thread and back again? It also doesn't change the theory that Dominion is the cause of local geographical specialization of Selish Magic.
  19. Following the link shows the actual WoB is "The secondar Shard on Elatris's world is Dominion" It does not say that Skai is the holder, further down the thread it is specifically mentioned that the "theory" is that he is. And was thus moved to "General Theories" by the Mods.
  20. @Extesian @Calderis Thanks for the back and forth on the idea, I much prefer the back and forth when it comes to theories, different points of view always help to better polish things. While I spent many of my replys attempting to explain my original extrapolation involving Feruchemy, I do believe you two have both convinced me that it's unlikely and just over extending/extrapolating for that specific aspect.
  21. @Calderis Yes I then took that idea to Scadrial to say "Yes I agree" that Allmoancy would be locked to planet, but not Feruchemy or Hemalurgy. But extrapolated/expanded it - (since we know from SA things -involved with- the CR can be and are effected by humans beliefs (cognition) on them) to say that I thought the Feruchemy outcome of Cognitive Metals might change because that "response" would be more "subject" to humans cognitive changes. Which is what I was trying to explain (poorly i guess since I'm still having issue articulating it). @The One Who Connects I'll give it to you that the "Associated Magics" section has the Theory warning - as I am stating the above is my theory/theory I ascribe too. However, "line near the top" Does indeed lack proper attribution, but so does the statement that Skai was Dominion's holder and that does not seem to be disputed - so how is one to know which are disputed and unattributed, and which are not disputed and unattributed without posting their statement? In doing so to say that one can not be used because it is not proper attributed is to imply all non-attributed post cannot be used. Which is fine, but clearly not the practice around here.
  22. @Extesian I have the Definition of the word Dominion + the the opinion that Brandon doesn't choose his names without a specific reason, i.e. words mean things. Second the Coppermind specifically says the variation in Sel magics is related to Dominion Shard. There are also a ton of Theories on this site from 2012/2013 about the same opinion/interpretation of Dominion. Just to clarify I am attributing the geographical difference in Sel's Magic (post mixing) to the Shard of Dominion's influence on the Dor. I still believe and support that idea mention in the WoB you linked, that because all the Investiture is stuffed into the CR, that is why Selish people can't use Sel Magic off of Sel (without a pipe). Simply: Regional difference in Magic ON-planet are caused by Dominion- Sel magic locked to Sel is caused by Investiture trapped in the CR.
  23. Again I'm not disagreeing with that in anyway shape or form. I believe you are correct and those aspects would be unchanged. What I am trying to say is Memories are a Cognitive thing so having the Investiture in the CR might have odd outcomes for Cognitive metals in Feruchemy. I.e. maybe they can store more memories, or maybe the memory will live in the CR as an idea and now will be more "permanent" int he metal mind. At the same time "Spiritual" Metals like Connection and Identity I think would also change because the the Investiture link for Spiritual aspects would be weakened by it being in the CR vise the SR. Basically I'm just trying to say the magnitude of the F effect, or perhaps method or degree needed to tap/store might change specifically for the CR and SR based metal.
  24. Fair points - I don't have full faith in the theory, its just an idea. But don't think Brandon's "man who calls himself Taln" is any kind of attempt to allude to other things. I see it only as way to avoid spoiling. Either because my 1/2 chull idea, or because the in-world characters still aren't certain its him and he doesn't wish to spoil them finding out by confirming for readers that it is or isn't.
