  2. Because, for whatever reason, he expects them to it seems Edit HA!!!! All 3 of us. Touche fellas. Touche.
  3. Aaah thanks, I hadn't seen it been argued before, I'll have a deeper look
  4. I'll read this thread more closely later but for now Edit @The One Who Connects I feel that Szeth is consistent with the WoBs about bounding an Honorblade. He deliberately let's the blade disappear. That WoB I think is saying the difference is that with a Shardblade it will automatically disappear when dropped, with an Honorblade it won't automatically disappear but if you will it to, it will (eg if a bearer gets knocked out and dropped the blade he's screwed, but if he decides to let it disappear it will just like a Shardblade).
  5. What's really going to bake your noodle later in is, that scene is on Braize, aka the Tranquiline Halls.
  6. I will accept praise the difference is that Calderis is engaged with every topic here and will take it to its full conclusion. I tend to shimmy in, provide a WoB, a comment, and leave. Calderis on the other hand fleshes out the micro- theory more and posts a lot more small theories. But yeah the best part is when we both get into a particular bit of micro - theory pit realmatics and feedoff each other, we work well together I know he's useful and interesting, and I'm glad if I'm the same. Bear in mind though, we got nothing on many of the old school who have been mostly inactive on the forum and will probably stay so until Oathbringer. Come November, the newer people will start seeing how little we got compared to the mods, Pagerunner, Spool, Argent, Oversleep and others. I for one can't wait
  7. Name of the Wind Kvothe's father.
  8. As me Da' always used to say, "Finish your food son. There are people starving in the world. And if they eat you one day, the more of you there is to eat, the less of your friends they'll need to eat." No, my favorite is: Call a Jack a Jack. Call a Spade a Spade. But always call a whore a Lady. They have a hard life and it doesn't hurt to be polite.
  9. I'm picturing Dalinar scaring away chickens with an umbrella and the Nightwatcher informing Amaram "You chose poorly" as Voidlight melts his face.
  10. Welcome brother. What say we build a sapient AI with one broad, subjective command, put in inside a sword that can read minds and then attempt to kill each other in front of our baby. Am I right? AM I RIGHT? I'm right
  11. imagine if we were both in the same timezone
  12. But... it will wreak havoc with the hair I choose to manifest right now
  13. Hey I need them to live! Why did I ever come to this colorless storming land.
  14. We do know that mistwraiths have a Cognitive block put their by TLR. And we know that a Blessing is needed to give them sapience (two really, but Bleeder made do with one reasonably well, bar a little madness). The four blessings are awareness (heighten physical senses), potency (heighten physical strength), presence (heighten mental fortitude) and stability (heighten emotional fortitude), but more Blessings could exist. The need for two seems to simply be the level of change that is needed to the subject's physical, cognitive and spiritual aspects The increased holey-ness of your spiritweb makes you more susceptible to interference, but the blessing of presence for example counteracts that (as it did when TenSoon took OreSeur's blessings). I think @Calderis your ideas on this have a lot of merit. The question is whether it's just a single cognitive block (whatever that means realmatically) or whether their aspects are separated on all three realms. It may not matter much practically. I personally think it's just the physical and cognitive realm that are disconnected and spiking the spiritweb effectively bypasses this cognitive block. I think if it does work the way you propose though, it still works, a Blessing basically either further anchors your cognitive, or your physical, self (potency is clearly physical, awareness is possibly physical or possibly cognitive or both, presence is probably cognitive, and I'm guessing stability is spiritual/cognitive)? (Now I think about it, I should know which realm emotional and sensory are in but they both seem to me to be less clear than what I first assumed).
  15. I ninja'd you again! I suppose I should be embarrassed. But mainly I know this isn't really Spool's sort of thing (Though I shouldn't speak for him) and I do want this thread to keep moving
  16. Here is an interesting and not entirely useful WoBs. I spent ages looking for it because I remembered it saying more about Kandra 'life'. I was wrong
  17. perhaps you should start tapping Mass rather than storing it.......... (I'm...sorry)
  18. A couple of thoughts. WoBs below but the posts so far are right. Feruchemy can be detected but it's hard. Seeking is about kinetic investiture but includes strange things like the Rhythms.
  19. I'll just say, if @Spoolofwhool is not keen I'm happy to do one. I mean I'm not sure if anyone really wants me to but I do like this thread and I'm happy to see it keep moving
  20. @Toaster Retribution What I´m suggesting is basically that Kelsier appears as a threat, Harmony needs Marsh to fight him, but Marsh is too weak. So Harmony allies with a twinborn who can compound brass/zinc to control Marsh, make him spike himself, and then fight Kelsier. And yes, I know that this plotline is extremely unlikely. @The One Who Connects The likeliness factor has never stopped us before Source
  21. I can. They may not be right, but there are a number of ‘types’ of intelligence that aren’t necessarily covered by mental speed and the slightly questionable preciseness of the Ken Jennings example. Judgement – the ability to process vast amounts of information, distinguish between them and assess which is the best option I don’t know how to describe this one, but pure brain processing power that isn’t speed, but depth? Kind of like the difference between CPU power and RAM. In other words, not how fast you can assess information, but how much at a time. Even someone with incredible mental speed can’t just solve near-impossible problems of great complexity. But someone with the other type of processing power could. Emotional – the ability to apply intelligence to humanity, essentially on its cognitive level, the ability to communicate with a person at their level, the ability to persuade and reshape opinion in your listener Taravangian clearly had not just speed, but depth(?) of intelligence. We'll see if he had judgement but he certainly thinks he did. His method of communication when he was smart doesn't show emotional intelligence, but if he was correctly reading the way people will act, because of their cognitive/emotional nature, that demonstrates emotional intelligence as well.
  22. @Oversleep I agree with you but I also don't feel that's what @The Flash was implying, at least not to that extent. For sure you don't have to choose between edgy/BadWordy and worldbuilding though, Martin and Locke still write beautifully. Though maybe that's exactly what Flash meant, in which case I also disagree (though not quite as passionately )
  23. That's a good Wob. You're probably thinking of this one I personally don't think it's as settled as that and more than that i think Brandon is fast and loose with the word soul. Sometimes he clearly means spiritweb (When he refers to hemalurgy stealing a piece of the soul), sometimes he clearly means cognitive. I think in-world they don't know, and Brandon hasn't clarified quite enough for us to be certain. Too many uses of the word. But If you've seen something more explicit that would be great, this question comes up quite a lot.
  24. @FiveLate but you were ninja'd by a lazy, inferior response. Good summary!
