  1. I...would rather more annotations than Apocalypse Guard
  2. I can't contribute to this but I never noticed that at all, what a great catch! Especially if noone has noticed before. I hope someone has some sick photo editing program that can get the words even more visible. I can't believe it's filler. I won't.
  3. What evidence have you seen against it Yata? Coz I think this WoB gives some support for it. Now, having extra identity may not protect you just coz having less leaves you vulnerable, but I think there's support there
  4. Yata is right about this, here's the relevant WoB
  5. that's ok Tesh it was a Stephen King reference
  6. I actually disagree a bit on this @Calderis. The request matters. The boon may not be what was asked but I think the request does matter That to me indicates that a person doesn't just go to the Nightwatcher and she grants what she wants to irrespective of the request. It sounds like the request matters. The question is in what way does it matter.
  7. Did you find the Dark Tower?
  8. I got bad news for you Mr Inquisitor NO SPREN FOR YOU
  9. Just to note, inkspren seem to be more about thoughtfulness, consistency and applied logic, rather than scholarship per se
  10. So I have a new idea on who wrote in-world Oathbringer. Well, it may be new, I haven’t gone through the breathtaking number of posts on these chapters. But the theories I’ve seen to date have been that it is a surgebinder, since the author talks about being in Shadesmar. However, they actually talk about hanging between the realms, seeing into Shadesmar. So a surgebinder is logical, right? Well this WoB made me think of an alternative. So, my theory is that the author of Oathbringer may not a surgebinder at all, but a normal person who had basically died, the realmic barriers weakened and they were able to see into the Cognitive Realm. The author also sees ‘beyond’, which may not mean the Beyond, could mean the Spiritual Realm, but either way it’s more than just the Cognitive Realm. If so, it could be anyone, and that ‘death’ may not have occurred yet, or at least not been on screen. But to try narrow it down… …it needs to be someone who is regarded as a heretic (but doesn’t seem to think of themselves as one), who has had a near-death experience (and near enough to death that others, who could ‘see further’ were sure that person was dead), and it probably needs to be someone with a connection to the sword Oathbringer (though it’s possible Oathbringer refers to something else I suppose, and it’s also possible it’s written by someone with no connection but who is writing about Dalinar). So, options. Firstly, if I’m right, it could be storming anyone, especially if this almost-death has happened off screen or will happen later. But who has come close to death and been seen as dead by others? Jasnah. Szeth. Gawx. Shallan. Kaladin? There must be more. Gawx is the only non-surgebinder but that seems…unlikely. Szeth is kind of not a surgebinder, at least not any more. Out of them, Jasnah and Szeth are most likely to be considered heretics and Jasnah considers herself a heretic. Szeth?? Seems too detached from the subject matter. So I’m no closer to guessing someone in that context. But I wanted to post this as a separate thread in case people do. Using the idea that the author need not be a surgebinder (but could be), but most importantly has been close to death and probably brought back from death, does anyone have any further ideas, different to the standard Jasnah/Renarin ones? And I'm sorry if this spin on it is not new, I haven't had time to read through all the theories and comments on these chapters
  11. I hate that, it isn't the monitor's fault. I hit the computer.
  12. Ha! Alternatively, Kaladin, Shallan and Adolin
  13. Brandon will be writing novellas in between Apocalypse Guard stories. My top choice was always Silverlight, and he's confirmed that's an option. But he's also said that he has several First of the Sun plotted, which makes me enormously excited. I still choose Silverlight coz I'm a realmatic lore fiend, but FotS could show more interesting realmatic stuff, shed light on Shards and non-Shardworlds, and give a glimpse into the Cosmere's future. WHICH DO YOU CHOOSE? and why is it Silverlight?
  14. Yeah his description of having led 4 lives in the last 5 years makes that likely for the slave brand at least. He considers himself a different person. Maybe he'll even heal his depression, though he still seems to think of that as part of his personality.
  15. Given Sazed changed them to enable true breeding and rational thought, and spikes are chosen or rejected later in life, I'm guessing that change slows down their extreme growth as well so they can't live forever, but far longer than they did.
  16. If I measure one of you, do you both take on a fixed form?
  17. Glorious! That was a personalization worth getting Edit - So I’ll put up a quick, speculative idea for Dawnshards here. What if they were the first fabrials, and they were Cultivation’s gift to humanity as honorblades were Honor’s gift? We know there are three systems (basically), voidbinding, surgebinding and fabrials (not exactly, but kind of). Honor gave the Honorblades, part of his essence and linked to his investiture. The Dawnshards could bind voidish or mortal. It doesn’t…feel right, but if it was it would solve a couple of condundrums about magic systems, dawnshards and exactly what Cultivation did for humanity comparable to the Honorblades. Any debate on it may end up tangential in which case I can do another topic, but curious to hear if this is ridiculous, awesome or somewhere in between.
  18. Nice, @ccstat. So basically you’re theory is that someone in the throes of the Thrill is infused with Odium’s investiture and it’s possible to actually fill a sphere (/gem inside sphere) with that investiture? I’m a little realmatically uncomfortable with the idea. Where does that investiture come from? I figure it would either have to be that Odium’s investiture leaks onto Roshar somehow, or that each time an Unmade does their thing, it is end-neutral – ie they are splinters that expend their own voidlight. I would have problems with the latter as it would mean that the Unmade get weakened by acting. The former would imply that there is a way to access Odium’s investiture on Roshar between Desolations, which I have my doubts about as I believe the thing that ushers in a Desolation is that a way is created for voidlight to get from Braize to Roshar. However, they are my realmatic issues, you’re certainly right that the effects of the Thrill appear to mimic those of holding stormlight, though in a voidier way. It’s probably the best idea I’ve seen so far on explaining the sphere since I too am FIRMLY in the camp of believing it does not contain an Unmade (as there is more than one sphere). That said, if Gavilar could just fill those spheres while feeling the Thrill, I feel he could have made many, many more. But still, enough to hit tentative head-canon status for me
  19. When we hear the Stormfather talking it seems to be the spren's personally, not Tanavast's. The Stormfather refers to Honor as a separate person. I'm yet to understand how the merging works but the Stormfather seems to be clearly referring to his pre-splintering bonding as a bondsmith spren, not as an alive vessel. We know the Stormfather bonded previously because Syl said so and because of the WoB Calderis cited. What is new in this information is yay the recreance was at least 2000 years ago (assuming the words spoken were relatively accurate).
  20. I'm inclined to agree with a Blessing. There are kandra worldhoppers, if they killed one they'd get two Blessings.
  21. You've been a regular and enthusiastic contributor since joining and made the forum a more lively place
  22. It doesn't fit in too well, but I want it to be Eshonai
  23. A few thoughts after skimming through 4500 responses. Adolin is one of the bravest people on Roshar. I'm obsessed with the pane of glass. If Dalinar and Navani break up the world is going to end. Faster. Mara is probably young and therefore not Vivenna (also would be a strange place for Vivenna to settle for a few years) but storm it I WILL find Vivenna. Dalinar may or may not have wiped out an entire town, or at least an entire ruling family, and can't even remember why he did it other than the fact it was vengeance. I'd overcompensate with self-control as well. Kadash is significant. The amount of detail about him before this book made me think that. He's gon' do something... Elhokar's pretty calm for someone who's throne was usurped by a guy who promised he'd never usurp the throne. He's gon' do something... Keladin was music to my eyeballs and since the guy can be a lighteyes any time he wants, he's probably gonna be alright. Where...the...hell...are...the...parshmen. Kaladin's parents describe the storm damage, ain't no waaay they would fail to mention parshmen turning into demons. Mara is probably a dragon.

  25. Here from Sydney this year I take the painful as simply meaning D was a dark, bad man and it's painful to see how horrible he was as a younger man.
