  1. Based on prevailing theories I can only surmise that the Oathbringer book is in fact Evi. Dalinar was literally married to a book named Evi for several decades. And the author of that book??? VIVENNA!
  2. I honestly can't think of a single character who is less likely to be the author.
  3. He can't keep doing things half-sies like he is now. He'll need to commit to being either the non-political Radiant or the Alethi conqueror. Honestly I could see it going either way. Being "forced" into the role of conqueror to save the world from itself seems like the most realistic answer to the problems the world is facing. This is balanced by the fact though that Elend already went through this character arc in Mistborn, and I get the feeling Brandon would want to avoid having Dalinar's story follow the same "reluctant tyrant" path as Elend.
  4. 10 surges, 10 essences, 10 voidbindings, 10 gemstones, 10 outer gas giants in the Roshar system. There are plenty of cultural things that you could list as derivative to the above, but 10 is the fundamental number of Roshar and its magics. 10 is to Roshar as 16 is to Scadrial, just "baked into" the fundamental magical structure of the world.
  5. It was a collaborative project written by both of Shallan's parents, Helarin, Sadeas, Gavilar, Highlord Roion, Tien, Tyn and Tanavast. Turns out none of them were "really dead", they all get resurrected in the final 2 chapters and then publish their in-world book.
  6. Unlocks Vedel's diary which contains cosmere shattering revelations relating to the relative attractiveness of various Heralds on a scale of 1-10 along with some really embarrassing poetry.
  7. The author was YOU THE READER all along - directed by M. Night Shamalan
  8. I wouldn't be surprised if she was the first woman in Bridge 4. She's already hanging around them a lot, and Lopen's cousins have demonstrated membership in the group is kind of fluid.
  9. Oh dang great catch. I think they're related but different things.
  10. I think there's just one. It seems a very special place, and it would be a real pain to duplicate the Sistine Chapel ceiling!
  11. Mynocks...chewing on the power cables Stormlight Pillar
  12. Ooh that makes sense. There's probably a bunch of openings below the highstorm line that got blown or cremmed shut. Someone needs to go deep into the creepy unmade infested sub-basement to open the magic windows so stormlight can blow in. Although I do find the possibility of the Radiants forming one of those fire bucket lines to slowly transfer stormlight down into the core hiliarious.
  13. At this very moment Jasnah drops out of a portal yelling about how everyone needs to retreat because there's a dangerous unmade trapped in the basement and Urithiru isn't safe until it's powered on. Then everyone has a hearty chuckle.
  14. I'm of the theory that the Stonewards and Windrunners are the closest orders to Honor. You can interpret the vertical axis in the surgebinding diagram as a gradient representing closeness to Honor at the top and Cultivation at the bottom (Edgedancers+Lightweavers). The Bondsmiths are a bit closer to the middle than the Stonewards and Windrunners. Just a theory, but one that fits current data pretty well. Also, Dalinar's visions from Honor tend to more predominately focus on events with Radiants from Stonewards+Windrunners (Recreance and Midnight Essence flashbacks).
  15. Ha, that was such a tease by Brandon. Eventually Shallan will tell us (or maybe even draw for us!) the various spren on the mural. He probably doesn't want to give away certain information for the readers yet (such as possibly the identity of the "odiumspren" which talks with Kaladin).
  16. I think over time the stormlight slowly dispersed. No energy storage medium is perfect after all. I obviously can't guarantee stormlight works this way, but Brandon has tended to ground his magic systems in real world thermodynamic themes, so I think stormlight slowly leaking away makes sense. It's also possible that Dalinar and gang might have drained off what limited stormlight remained when they opened the oathgate.
  17. Roshar is composed of the 10 fundamental forces/spren. Syl is a windspren but with a chunk of Honor's power attached granting her sentience and special power. Pattern is a creationspren with a chunk of Cultivation. This Unmade seems to be a creationspren with a very large chunk of Odium's power attached to it.
  18. All those gemstones are a centralized area to store massive amounts of Stormlight. I believe this pillar is the equivalent of the power-core, storing and routing Stormlight to the rest of Urithiru. This also helps to explain the strange vents/cracks/gaps in the walls around Urithiru. Those are pathways for the Stormlight to flow from the central pillar to the necessary area. Once our heroes start to infuse stormlight into the pillar, the latent defensive and quality of life systems around Urithiru will begin to "power up" and the tower will become less of a Haunted Castle, and more of a Cool Radiant Fort with indoor plumbing, lighting, and magical defense systems. Likewise I think the pillar itself was the previous prison of Re-Shepir. The massive amounts of investiture served to keep Re-Shepir trapped inside the pillar.
  19. I almost feel bad for Re-Shepir. It's a corrupted creationspren, born with an evil purpose as a chunk of Odium's power. Yet it has an almost childlike curiousity about humanity. Maybe if Shallan could put on a full-time lightweaving play it would just sit and watch in fascination forever
  20. The UnMade are chunks of Odium's power that were broken off in past Desolations and have gained a measure of consciousness over time. He's the broken one. That's the nature of Honor's plan and the Oathpact, slowly dispersing Odium's power over time. I think each time humanity "wins" a desolation, Odium takes another wound and another UnMade appears. The Unmade are very dangerous, but much less focused in their evil and planning than if Odium directly held their power.
  21. Pattern declares Veil to be a good lie, because she is a distinct role that can be picked up and set down. He doesn't like Radiant though, because Radiant isn't a complete illusion, just an avoidance mechanism. She creates Radiant as a way to avoid confrontation with Adolin regarding her past and her discomfort with using the shardblade. The problem with doing this though, is that Shallan herself can never progress emotionally with her issues or her relationship. Avoidance mechanisms aren't 100% bad things, indeed overly ruminating on negative thoughts can be damaging, but Shallan's setting a bad pattern in using Radiant as a mechanism to avoid self-growth.
  22. http://stormlightarchive.wikia.com/wiki/Moons The colors match up pretty well for the 3 moons: blue, green and violet.
  23. Why does Jezrien's pose remind me of Vigo the Carpathian?
  24. I wonder if she was already old when she became a Herald. Several of the other Heralds seem to not age.
  25. Thus far Kaladin is the only confidant that Shallan has been honest with about her past. She tries so hard to "make it work" with Adolin that she's not being emotionally honest with him. Their relationship is actually a very shallow thing even if both care for the other.
