@AngelEy3 do you I have a favorite Gothos Folly quote? I also love that section in The Crippled God where one Fokrul Assal keeps quoting the book to their master and the quotes illuminates how stupid their cause and methods are. They eventually get upset and orders the scrolls burned. The only quote I remember is something to the effect of, "If you can make them believe absurdities they will commit atrocities." Edit: also just remembered another, "When wisdom drips blood fools stand triumphant."

Who is the most ardent Ardent in Stormlight Archives? My personal opinion is Sister Pai.

I am a big fan of the first two books of the series, but thought the third was a big disappointment. It seems like my view is the minority though because a lot of people really like how it ended though.
-
I think it's little like malazan in that it is a high risk/high reward series. Best of luck...
-
Their loss *shrugs* Also I think the third one is expected in the fall of 2018; that isn't solid though. I think the people who don't like this method of storytelling are the same ones who love Robert Jordan explaining every article of clothes, every thought that enters into a characters head, and it taking several books for people to walk to their city of destination (personally it drove me crazy, but to each their own). Personally I like it when a author moves the plot forward by summarizing some events.

I agree. If you like that way of telling the story you would probably like Glen Cook (most famous for The Black Company series). Also did you know that the second book in the planned trilogy is out? Its called Wall of Storms. I know many people who liked the sequel better (and I can see why) but I still prefer the first.

Welcome again! Unlike some other sharders I have no problems with necromancers and have been known to dabble in the dark arts myself!

I am really impressed with the physical quality of the books from SAGA press. The binding seems better than many other publishers (the books seem more sturdy) and that map is beautiful. You will be consulting the map a lot because he zooms around all over it.

I have read it and loved it! It's a different sort of story focusing on plot rather than character development and is told like a chinese epic (many western readers didn't get it). The story switches from micro to macro point of view which is very cool. Its also a standalone first installment in a trilogy which I appreciate. I am a huge fan!

There are a few books out there that are my "white whales" to use a Moby Dick reference. This time I will try to finish the Red Knight by Miles Cameron; it seems like it would be a good book but for some reason I can never finish it. My copy arrived at the library so I will probably start in this Saturday. On Tuesday the U.S. release of Blackwing by Ed Mcdonald comes out and I am pumped to start it.

Oh I know its not exactly the same. I was wondering if the Proclamation to the World was the seed that his idea sprang from. Sorry if I did not communicate that properly.
-
I wonder if Brandon was inspired by his religion by the clear divide between responsibilities between men and women? From the Proclamation to the World: By divine design, fathers are to preside over their families in love and righteousness and are responsible to provide the necessities of life and protection for their families. Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children.

@Seerow Would it be fair to say that men reading would be the equivalent taboo of cannibalism in our society?
-
You mentioned that ardents are allowed to read. This gives the impression that men, in general are not allowed to read, but that is not the case. Their society seems to teach that it is unmanly and just something they don't do. It's not forbidden it is just odd and out of place. I don't know if the knowledge about the footnotes is "hidden" but it is certainly not broadcasted and tried to keep quiet about. The footnotes would, be really handy for making sure that knowledge is not lost or at least clarified. For instance, if a king was dictating a autobiography it would be important to get his side of the story along with a outside observer; I imagine the king would be a tempted to place a emphasis on his own image rather than truth.

Idealists mature badly, if they can’t outgrow their idealism they become hypocrites, or blind. Fixating so much on the flaws of those that oppose them, they make themselves out to be paragons. -The Blinding Knife. (I changed it a little to make more sense to readers who haven't read the book)

@Draginon I thought you were living in Florida now or am I completely misremembering things? I'm curious if you are a female? Feel free not to answer if it makes you feel uncomfortable, but the reason I ask is that it seems like your relationship with your mom sounds like my sisters' and our mother and I am working on a theory. If you are a male, I apologize and regardless I hope you have a better day!

I think I have a higher opinion on Seven Forges than you, but even I admit this series is a bit like cotton candy; its tastes alright, but isn't necessarily very filling. Thanks for the detailed response!

A great series thats only gets better!

The comparisons between the cosmere and Final Fantasy for those interested: https://www.tor.com/2017/09/27/brandon-sandersons-cosmere-is-surprisingly-similar-to-final-fantasy/

Behold the very coveted, but rarely seen Torturer of Heralds!

Was the fourth book a lesser quality installment of the series or was it just too much of a just o.k. series at once?
-
I've been listening to the audiobook and reading The Blinding Knife for the past few days, but now that my books have come in from the library I will switch back to audio only for Weeks' book. The books that came in from the library, that I started today, are The Seven Forges series by James A. Moore. It is 4 books long and I had read the first two, but stopped because that was all that was out at the time. I recently found out that its all done so I want to see how it turns out. From what I remember it is a good series, but not a great one. Imagine a empire that has been living in peace for a long time accidently discovers inhabitants of a unknown land that are basically like the Aiel (from wheel of time). I won't reveal anymore for fear of spoilers.

Do I think Mr. T is right? I pity the fool that thinks otherwise.

No matter how many people rant and rave about kneeling vs standing for the flag I really don't care what other people do or think. It's enough for me to have my own strong convictions without trying to force it upon others and make them believe as I do. It's a shame we all can't follow the advice of Voltaire and, "we must all cultivate our garden." If its one thing I have learned in life is that it is very seldom that people want to have a open discussion about anything. People mostly want to tell you how you are wrong and why you should listen to them.
