That assumes Adonalsium didn't plan the entire thing, no matter what the 16 thought. The Irali story about The One, suggests it was intended. Of course, it is also possible that is a afterwards justification, but I don't think so.

Those are not exclusive possibilities.

I thought about that one. It is at least close in spirit. -

There isn't much left here. And we have seen magic from about half the shards, there is plenty of room for the rest of it. -
Types of Magic NOT in the Cosmere
ZenBossanova replied to ZenBossanova's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Invisibility is plausible, but I am not convinced on that one. That could easily be the one thing it can't do. We do have potions, and transmution, but no alchemy yet. Again, we have futuresight and fortune, but no reading signs Ley lines - that is a good call. I wondered about this one, but the more I think about it, you are right. I was going to argue the remote sensing, but you are right here. Should we let talking to Kelsier count? I am of two minds on this one. Maybe it should count. Can we get any benign non-hemalurgic ones? But this at least counts for "werewolves". That is exactly what Sixth of the Dusk did. Telepathically even. Good call! Unmade and Revels? They said it couldn't be done... good call. Yes, orgy at the revel, instigated by the Unmade certainly counts. It is sex and it is magic... and disgusting and horrifying. I like to imagine Dalinar helping to pull this Unmade away from Odium and having Sebrial bond him. "You call that indulgence? I call it weak. Now this is what indulgence is...." That would take some heavy work from our Bondsmith and the Unmade good at corrupting/changing things. Probably never happen... but I think it should. -
Hemalurgically transmitted diseases
ZenBossanova replied to ZenBossanova's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I imagine, trying to get someone's allomatic ability, but also getting their hydrophobia, or propensity for violence. Or schizophrenia. -
Hemalurgy can remove and transplant parts of people's spirit webs. Some people have distorted spirit webs, if only from being previously spiked. If a person had a defect in their spirit, could that defect be transmissible? Could we have a whole range of Hemalurgically transmitted diseases of the spirit web? This could lead to an additional level of horror when dealing with Hemalurgy.

My head-canon is still that aluminum (& maybe silver in some contexts) is the electrical ground of investiture.

The Cosmere has an incredible variety of magics and magic systems. Even individual Shards may have a great variety. But what kinds of magic are NOT in the Cosmere? Of course, we haven't seen all the Shards, and even the ones we have seen, we haven't see all they can do. What am I missing here? Not in the Cosmere Elemental Magic (eg. The Last Airbender) Ice or Fire magic Theurgy/Summoning angels, demons, spirits Enchanting object Alchemy Astrology Conjuring Invisibility Speaking with the dead* Shapeshifting (should hemalurgy count?) Possession Remote Sensing spells Human hybrid mermaids, centaurs, minotaurs, snake-people, etc vampires, giants, werewolves, magic wands, rings, amulets, etc Runes Augury (interpreting omens, signs) Numeralogy/Arithmancy (should the shards affiliation with numbers count here?) Dowsing Exorcism Ley Lines Voodoo sex magic (just for completeness sake) Shamanistic/Druidic Nature magic talking with or gaining power from animals X-ray vision Magics in the Cosmere Divination Illusion Necromancy Transfiguration Potions Healing Animation Energy (manipulating, absorbing, nullifying, etc) Flight Immortality Mind reading? Hoid's Inability to Harm Others
ZenBossanova replied to StormblessedSurvivor's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I don't think that can be the whole story, because Hoid told Dalinar he was willing to see Roshar burn, if he needed to. -
Hoid's Inability to Harm Others
ZenBossanova replied to StormblessedSurvivor's topic in Cosmere Discussion
My head canon is that it is the result of picking up a previous magic system, though @Quantus take on it is illuminating. My prediction is this, when Hoid gets Voidbinding/bonds a voidspren/gets Odium's magic system, that this restriction will be lifted. In Quantus's terms, his idealized self will include the ability to do harm (ie Odium's shardic intent). -
While Hemalurgy is a useful and versatile magic system, charging spikes is harder to do without large scale murder. But is it impossible? Could we spike an elderly misting, and not remove the spike until death? We know spiking AND REMOVING THE SPIKE is fatal. But only inserting a spike should not necessarily be fatal.

Are you afraid of Sanderson been unable to finish Cosmere?
ZenBossanova replied to IcaroRibeiro's topic in Cosmere Discussion
I can't speak for anyone else, but I started The Wheel of Time after it finished. It was too much. Reading, digesting and discussing Stormlight, I get far, far more out of it. I wish I had started Wot years before. -

I can't see the bar on my phone at all. I have to use my laptop if I want to see it. -
Multiple magic system users (apart from Hoid)
ZenBossanova replied to XaviGzz's topic in Cosmere Discussion
In the Stormlight Archive, you have the Ghostbloods, but Hoid is quite unimpressed with them. The Lord Ruler uses multiple systems, or did you mean magics from different planetary systems? -

I think he would be wise to collaborate more in his writing. Imagine if he did the outlining for a book (for instance, Mistborn Era III) and co-wrote with someone else. He could cover a lot more ground this way. This might be similar to how White Sand or Death Without Pizza is being done. Of course, the thought of Jim Butcher doing Era III or Patrick Rothfuss doing Aether of Night, could be a lot of fun. These are, of course, very busy authors, but the point stands. -
That depends, are you trying to actually see into the future, or merely stymie others who are attempting to see? The former may be hard, but the latter should be relatively easy.

Just a thought that occurred to me while reading this: 1. Futuresight counteracts other people's Futuresight. 2. Futuresight is a (corrupted?) surge. 3. Fabrials replicate Surges. 4. Mass production of Futuresight Fabrials, even cheap bare-bones ones, could effectively blind Odium's Futuresight.

[OB] Book 4 Storyline Predictions and Discussions
ZenBossanova replied to TequilaJack's topic in Stormlight Archive
And Queen Jasnah struggling with it more than she expects. Kaladin's next oaths will involve leadership... as king of Alethkar, with Queen Jasnah. This is NOT what he was planning on. The ancient history of Roshar is not going to be simple good guys & bad guys, just because people and history is complicated. Humanity may not be innocent, or even guilty of everything, but the Singers will be more complicated in their motivations, and not as perfectly innocent as the dawnchant translation might indicate. Taravangian is more important than Odium realizes, and he is a fool for trusting Mr T. I wouldn't make a deal with the Devil, but on Mr T's genius days, I pity the Devil! Put this relationship on sizzle. Their banter will have sparking flying. Jasnah will verbally shred Kaladin frequently, but be delighted that he is intelligent enough to stand up to her sparring. More conversations like the one about cuddling a skyeel. If they don't kill eachother, then it will be hot. Amen, Sister. I expect that Rlain will bond the Sibling. I expect Mr T will bond the Nightwatcher. And once he does that, Dalinar can't get rid of him at all! Something odd is going on with Rock. I am not sure he going to have a typical spren bond, considering he used a shardbow at the end of book 3, and considering his unique Listener heritage. Lopen could have a unique type of bond as well for similar reasons. Natanatans may also have unique bonds considering their Aimian heritage. Adolin and Maya may make some progress, but she will not be restored until book 9 or 10. Adolin may have struggles with his father and with being a father, potentially. Cultivation will continue to play coy and uninterested, and Odium will continue to think she isn't doing much. He is so wrong. He greatly underestimates her. She is cultivating the entire population of Roshar to do what she needs. She will also gain control of Odium's surges, and perhaps even one of his Unmade. This will not all happen in book 4. Zahel and his old friend will have a serious talk. Not sure how he is getting out of this one. Nale and Ishar are going to be a big a problem as the Singer/Listener armies, if not bigger. Hoid will continue to be witty and in places you don't expect. Book 5 will end with Odium himself coming straight at Hoid, and Hoid has to run, and use every magic and trick he knows. The clash of armies will pale in comparison. Armies fighting, might even stop and watch the fireworks. It will be spectacular. At some point, perhaps book 5 or later, Nightblood will either be held by, or (more likely) strike Odium. This will be like sticking a fork in a power socket, with the power of a shard being drained through Nightblood. Expect some fuses to blow and Odium to temporarily lose a significant amount of power. I hope Nightblood will survive this. Endowment has been planning this for Odium from the very beginning, and this is the real reason Zahel is on Roshar, no matter what he thinks. His divine breath will be used at a crucial pivotal moment, much like Lightsong. -
In which case, you may be interested in this thread: The Dr Seuss one is particularly amazing.

Children of the Nameless/MTG: Replacing Mana with Investiture
ZenBossanova replied to ZenBossanova's topic in Other Stories
Magic the Gathering is definitely NOT Cosmere. But what if it were? Or, if you prefer, what if Brandon made a Cosmere version of Magic? Hard, I may grant you. But I don't think it is impossible. I play a little Magic, when I have time, but I am very much an amateur. Further, I think it could make it more interesting. For instance, in Magic, getting Mana (what we would call Investiture) is straightforward. You play land cards, and you have an amount of mana strictly proportional to that, that is renewed at the beginning of each turn. (there are of course, numerous exceptions, with special cards, etc) Collecting mana for each kind of magic (Red, White, Black, Blue, Green) is more or less, identical, even if the magics themselves have different philosophies. (eg. Organization (white), Curiosity (blue), Self-concern (black), Emotion (red), Instinct (green)) But if we replaced Mana with Stormlight, Breath and Allomatic metal, I am not sure how you would represent that with cards, but they would play very differently. It would not be as simple as just playing enough land cards. Another point, with 5 color of magic, there are 5*4/2 = 10 kinds of bi-color cards. With 16 kinds of investiture, that would be 16*15/2 = 120 kinds of bi-shard cards, at a minimum. And 560 tri-shard cards possible. Of course, you would not have to start off with all 16 shards. You could save most of them for later expansions. With Magic new expansions come out regularly, so this is not unexpected.
