What confuses me, is How did Renarin know Kaladin was in trouble? Did he project an illusion of himself? Or did he Else-call down there. If the first, he has some kind of remote sight. Plausible, but doubtful. But projecting the illusion is new. But this sounds like he is there in person. How did he get there? Else-calling is not a Truthwatcher surge. He should have some kind of Illusion and Progression surges, true or voidish.

Prediction: Book 5 will end with the Shard Odium being passed from Rayse to Moash. He will be the new Odium.

do windrunners have access to spiritual adhesion like bondsmiths
ZenBossanova replied to a topic in Stormlight Archive
Let's call that Spiritual Gravitation. People gravitate to him, which is part of why Leadership is a primary virtue for the Windrunners. -
do windrunners have access to spiritual adhesion like bondsmiths
ZenBossanova replied to a topic in Stormlight Archive
I am fond of the idea that each Radiant has a Spiritual form of their Surges. We have seen this with Shallan and Dalinar, and they were quite unique. It might be wiser to ask what his surge's spiritual form would be like. Considering his resonance is a large number of squires, and leadership is one of the two qualities associated with Windrunners, we may make an educated guess, that Kaladin would have a spiritual surge related to leadership. That would be related to spiritual adhesion, but functionally quite different. -
Should I stop reading?
ZenBossanova replied to Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamon's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think there is nothing wrong with a little Sanderson break, though I do think Oathbringer is a bit weaker than other Stormlight books. But there is no need to rush. Let me recommend a few good non-Sanderson books. After all, you have almost a year until book 4! I suggest: His Majesty's Dragon, Naomi Novik Three Parts Dead, Max Gladstone -
What Author would u like to see Sanderson team up with
ZenBossanova replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Jim Butcher - Mistborn I just read His Majesty's Dragon, by Naomi Novik. That would make for some interesting cross-pollination. -
It is up!

I read the whole thing, thinking it seemed awfully familiar, and written a little oddly, before realizing it was for last year.

I still predict, that at some point, Jasnah will meet Cultivation, and this will just make her more of an atheist. Of course, if this is what I discovered God was (or any of the Shards, really), I might have to agree with her!

[OB] Kaladin & Jasnah: the case for Political Marriage
ZenBossanova replied to ZenBossanova's topic in Stormlight Archive
How do you figure, @Booknerd ? I think the benefits greatly outweigh the dangers. I stand by my Original Post. Jasnah sees his potential, sees the benefit to the kingdom and Kaladin needs another oath, probably leadership related. Further, she will be aware of historical parallels that lead to trouble. Trouble that they can't afford right now. -
[OB] Kaladin & Jasnah: the case for Political Marriage

If she were working on attraction alone, I would not rule that out. But I doubt attraction, sexual or otherwise, is her highest consideration. -
If the Nightwatcher is primarily of Cultivation, and Mr T is 'cultivating' the Diagram, then his variable intelligence/empathy may not be a problem.

How would you deal with the Fused
ZenBossanova replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
As two armies approach each other, have Shallan make illusions that each person has a Nightblood. The Fused will panic, while the everyday Parshmen are disgusted as they are abandoned on the battlefield. Tremendous morale destruction of enemy. It may only work once, but it would be devastating. Another option, higher risk, higher possible benefit, would be the old Vasher technique of giving him to a group of angry people, and letting them kill themselves. It worked well enough on Nalthis, but I worry how well it would work on Roshar. -
[OB] Kaladin & Jasnah: the case for Political Marriage

This seemed pertinent, that both have Connection to the palace. -
I have wondered if Book 5 will end with Rayse getting kicked out of the Roshar system... and Moash taking up the shard Odium by himself. However it turns out, I want Kaladin involved in taking him down.
-
Keep in mind, he also has the quasi-helalurgic dagger that ripped the Oathpact out of Jezrien. What power does this give him?

Something like Dalinar's Statement, I am Unity? Plausible. And very interesting. Beautiful. May you forever title all of Brandon's books.

I have thought about this. My current head canon is that Cultivation disassembled the Dawnshards in the creation of the Aimians. Now it still needs to explain why she would do that, perhaps she just saw what was inevitable, or the Aimians hadn't sufficiently matured, for the Dawnshards to be used successfully.

I am not convinced Hoid needs all the spren. At most, he may want an Honor spren and a Cultivation spren, but I suspect he has sufficient for his purposes. Is he trying to get every power, or access to each Shard? The latter I suspect. But that also means that he is very interested in bonding a voidspren. Hopefully safely.

The more I have thought about this, the more sense it makes. It reminds me of thin little book I read once, called Godel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid. It is light reading. I highly recommend it. It is seriously one of the best books I have ever read. One of the things the book discusses is Godel's theorem and self contradictory systems. You might assume that a Shard does not contradict itself, but it is unclear if that is possible. Any sufficiently powerful logical system can not prove it doesn't contradict itself. For example, you can NOT prove mathematics is true. (Yes, I am simplifying things, but this is entirely true. ) I remember a conversation in the book, where one character continued to purchase new record players, and another character would buy records whose sole purpose was destroying that record player. The question was raised, Could you make a record player sufficiently powerful and tough, that could NOT be destroyed by any possible record? The answer was no, you could not. It is impossible. Now, I also suspect that Cultivation understands this, and she will use it against Rayse/Odium. In other words, mixing magic systems isn't a trivial part of Roshar. This is really what the entire war is about. This may have also been how he splintered Adonalsium. tl;dr Odium is using an mathematical theorem, to make a Shard fight against itself, or in math terms, contradict itself, as a way to splinter Shards.

This is not a strong argument.
-
Regardless of how we can get more gemstones, Brandon is explicitly pointing out that Roshar is going to have a "magical industrial revolution". We are just arguing how they are going to do it. It might be, that you keep your lit spheres for running your appliances, as if the amount of money you have, determines how much "electricity" you can get from a highstorm.

The problem with foie gras, is that there is not enough incentive to carefully breed, because they are not eaten as often as milk is drunk. It really is a niche thing. Cows have enlarged utters, and it doesn't cause half the problems you see with foie gras.
-
I am unfamiliar with goose breeds, but I doubt they are as well selected for milk cows. Cows are just more numerous and have been selected for better and for longer. If you breed long enough, their bodies will make the proper compensation for larger gemheart. Again, we have the literal Shard of Cultivation here. She has already bred the entire ecosystem. She could easily do this.
