  1. The problem is the human mind sucks at remembering stuff -- studies show that just recalling a memory will result in small changes to it. Basically, recalling a memory overwrites the memory, but imperfectly. So taking memories out of a coppermind into a human mind guarantees changes will occur. As far as I know we've never seen an example of something stored via Feruchemy degrading.
  2. The rules may not cover it. Also, Kaladin did not have shardplate or a shardblade. Those might be considered enough to offset the stormlight advantage. Skill does not appear to be a factor in determining advantage/disadvantage. If skill is a factor, then it would presumably be based on past duels, so Kaladin and Renarin would count as beginners. However, there's one simple reason it will not be challenged -- everyone knows that the end game was to challenge Sadeas to a duel to the death. Before most thought the risks were to the shardblades, etc. but now they understand what the real risks are, and those are way too high for anyone to bite.. As a side note, I wonder if this could play into what could happen to Adolin for murdering Sadeas, since he was supposed to duel him in a year (minus the time after the duel)....
  3. He compared her to Ed Snowden, as in freedom of information. Mercenary makes no sense, since she's not out for hire. I think a fan asking a question may havew mentioned that, or Brandon may have started to say that then switched to the Ed Snowden comparison. Regarding Hoid, they clearly know who he is in MB:SH, but no idea of they have met or if they avoid each other. Seems hard to imagine them not saying "hi" at some point though.
  4. Yeah, what a mess things are this time around. I would count Jasnah, Shallan, Kaladin, and Dalinar as "good-enough" to be called KRs (with that order of progression). Renarin is an unknown, and Lift has some more learning to do. Agree Adolin will likely awaken his blade without realizing what he is doing and I think that fits his character. Though who knows -- Renarin or Shallan (more so if Adolin and her stay together) could help out.
  5. Yeah, the main thing beyond pursuit of and sharing knowledge is protecting the Cosmere. So there is some knowledge she may not share, or someone people she may not share it with. She presumably is opposed to Odium's plans. Also worth noting that Branddon wants the SA to stand on it's own so will be keeping worldhoppers to cameo type roles, so there's only so if they were interfering more, it would probably be off-page.
  6. The implication is there that Sel, Threnody, and Scadrial are near each other. Arcanum Unbounded is supposed to have a CR starmap in it, so we should have a better idea who's near what. It will be an in-world map, so it may not be 100% accurate. We also do not know how time will be handled -- e.g. will a Sixth of the Dusk era Kriss be writing each planet entry, or just First of the Sun's? Or will it be Khriss from what's "current" -- i.e. Wax and Wayne + SA? I also do not think anyone has ever asked if the Ones Above had to use FTL to get to First of the Sun. So it could be local to the some solar system e.g. Scadrial is in.
  7. That always bothered me a bit too, but the numerical disadvantage makes sense. He probably has to still be in the fight at the end as well as @Yata mentions.
  8. From MB:SH:
  9. The Kindle PC app does not as far as I know have the ability to zoom in. Seems like a crazy oversight....
  10. Each SA book has one flashback character, making that character the main focus of their flashback book. From that perspective, SA is 10 books. That SA3 will be Dalinar's flashback book doesn't mean everyone else is dead or that they do not get their own PoVs. Think about how much time Kaladin had in Shallan's book (SA2)... Of course, it doesn't mean that some or all of them will not die in the front 5 books. I think Brandon mentioned that we could have a flashback book for a character that has already died, so just being in the back 5 books doesn't mean those characters are still alive. Short version is knowing who the flashback character for a book is does not tell us much more beyond that.
  11. Nazh does most of the grunt/dirty work though, so Nazh will be much more likely to be seen by others than Khriss. Though she shows up as well: Misborn BoM Spoilers:

    Era 3?

I thought there was going to be a man and a woman. Different skillsets kind of thing? That's the official numbering now.
  13. You just need to be an Allomancer. The metal is more of a control/focus for the magical effect.
  14. Or just go to @maxal,s profile and wade through her posts....
  15. But that's not true anymore -- Dalinar is the leader of the new KRs at this point, being the only bondsmith we know of. Here's an interesting thought -- if the Shin know Szeth lost the honorblade they will probably send a team out to retrieve it. So some Shin may escape Nale/Szeth. Agree though that Dalinar is the obvious choice. More so given that Kaladin is in a hurry to get home. Dalinar is the easy, quick answer to handing that off. I also don't see Syl suggesting anyone else but Dalinar.
  16. Actually, it made a lot of sense. I see why you mentioned we are probably overthinking it and I think you are correct on that one. Thanks for the great explanation!!
  17. Sorry, your theory felt disconnected with the thread. Why not say something like "Argel may have been on the right track, but what if...." Anyway, I guess the question is how hard/easy would it be to catch them at it? And what do the spren do? Pretend to act like the dead ones and stay with whoever picked them up? If they just summon them later on then people would notice a bunch suddenly went missing. Though maybe those people were quickly killed off. Regardless, if no one can poke a hole into either one of these theories then every order is back on the table. That sounds like something Brandon might do to us.....
  18. That seems more believable to me, since if it's realted to sleep then someone taking an afternoon nap or working third shift (so sleeping during the day) could be taken. It might not come up much though, so it could have happened and just never heard about it. There are probably fewer people on night shifts, so it would probably not stand out that none of them had been taken.
  19. @Sand Master, good points, though you should put the Stormlight Archives stuff in spoiler tags.
  20. So he's saying we should be looking at the outline/silhouette?
  21. As a side note, anyone consider that Szeth is being played? He helps take the Shin out and Nale get's the honorblades they are keeping there. Maybe his odd code of following the law prevents him from doing it, but Szeth, being falsely declared Truthless has a legitimate claim so can. Nale suddenly has a bunch of honorblades.... And then I guess we get to how sane/insane he is.
  22. I just suggested something very similar 4 or posts back....
  23. I've made the Chess analogy in one of these threads recently. Become intelligent enough and given enough information it should be possible to predict ahead X number of moves out. We are already seeing deviations in The Diagram that suggest we are starting to run into how far out Taravangian could predict.
  24. Let's not forget about that non-interventionist policy the Ones Above have. How well does that fit Roshar?
  25. That definitely sounds more like Dalinar has it. With the KRs now revealed, I have a hard time believing it would leave their ranks at this early juncture and it certainly makes sense for Dalinar to have it since he doesn't have Nahal bond style shardblade (though if the Stormfather did turn into a blade, that would be impressive).
