  1. Jasnah can be rash. If she was concerned about the Ghostbloods for whatever reason, she may have decided to move against them. We do not even know how much she actually knows about them -- if she knew what we know, her response may have been very different. I doubt she knows they are worldhoppers.
  2. Except the great subterfuge could be that the majority of the order's members did break their oaths to hide that some did not.
  3. With all the political marriages, having a lover on the side has to be fairly common. There's also Sebarial's mistress, which everyone seems to be aware of. I know Sebarial is an unusual case, but if it was the kind of thing heavily frowned upon, I think we would have heard more about it. Maybe we do not see many same-sex couples because of the socio-economic reasons others have mentioned. So, Shallan and Iyatil? Shalatil? Surprised no one has mentioned it yet. Or Eshonai (Shalanai?).
  4. Good point, which means we have no idea why Adolin was not traumatized by it. Do we know what happened to her? Maybe she had a chance to talk to Adolin while she was dying, which eased the pain? I'm out of ideas after that. Very insightful post. You should summarize all your thoughts on Adolin and send them to Brandon (via the web email form, for example).
  5. The "seed" is likely a reference to how to seed the algorithm to generate the same Julia set again. As a side note, the Mandelbrot set is supposed to contain the "seeds" to every Julia Set. So there could be some tie-in there, though there are no hints to that. I wonder what the people on Roshar would think if they figured this stuff out....
  6. There can really only be superficial relationships among the children of the highrinces, so frat boy is probably the right analogy. The question though is how much of this does Adolin recognize and when did he recognize it? I'm sure everyone wants to fit in, and Adolin would be no expcetion, but I like to think there is also a part of him that realizes how superficial some of it is. That may explain the problems he has had dating -- in fact, from that perspective, maybe it was intentional and not a problem at all (or, if you want, the problem was he might actually have to marry one of them...). Anyway, it explains why he can get along with Kaladin and Shallan so easily. Also, he may resent his mother for being different, which may explain why he was not as traumatized by her death.
  7. I don't think this is worthy of a new thread, so I thought I would post it in this one: –]argel1200 5 points 13 hours ago Have you ever considered giving Adolin more screen time and a better arc, similar to how Spook grew on you? There are a lot of die-hard Adolin fans that are really hoping he will get bumped up into a more important role? [–]mistborn[S] 4 points 12 hours ago RAFO on that one.
  8. He was using that trick before he took the bead.
  9. Here's the US English version (emphasis not added):
  10. Normally I would expect a challenge to a duel is the Alethi approved approach. Though Alethi is much closer to might-makes-right -- e.g. Gavilar uniting the Alethi. There's what is normally frowned upon, and then there's all the stuff that corruption, shifting political views/alliances, what Elhokar says, etc. that can all change that. For all we know, provoking someone you are supposed to duel like that is an offense in and of itself. Though even then I would assume the "proper" approach would be to demand a duel now. That may be what allows this to be glossed over -- most people would expect Adolin to beat Sadeas in a one on one duel at this point, in which case he was living on borrowed time anyway. Agree it was probably Alethi law, but with the KRs being reformed and given the Urithiru is the locale, a case can be made that KR rules apply. So if things look bleak for Adolin under Alethi law, I wonder if can demand a trial under KR law? Given that Skybreakers can detect lies, I assume they would rule Adolin was justified. If more than one set of laws apply, then that gives Brandon the chance to say Adolin broke the law, even if e.g. Alethi law ends up overridden by KR law. Here's an interesting thought -- Adolin could be exiled from Alethkar, which would allow him to stay Urithiru.
  11. So, uhm, Shysn?
  12. It seems like in the Cosmere that there's the death in the PR and then the mind hangs out in the CR, usually for a very short period of time, before heading on to the Great Beyond. But beings with investiture (or an insane amount of willpower) can delay that or in Kelsier's case stick around for a very long time (I assume since becoming a sliver he can hang around forever, but I'm not sure we can assume that for pre-sliver Kelsier). IIRC, the soul is the timeless part. So I would assume it's possible to reconnect the soul (SR) to the body (PR) in such a way as to interfere with the mind (CR) aspect, such as suppressing the memories. Huh. So going back to Ashraven, what if his mind (CR) aspect was messed up/lost? Maybe what Shai did was basically Forge Ashraven's mind (CR aspect), allowing his actual soul (SR) to reconnect with his body (PR). That could explain how she got the mannerisms right -- those could be at least partially tied to the SR aspect. And as @Yata pointed out above, the CR is really messed up on Sel, so that could be a bigger factor for Ashraven. If Harmony was not there, Wax would go on to the Great Beyond, so there's nothing for Harmony to actually do for that choice. So, likely there is nothing he has to do for the other choice, beyond convincing Wax to go back.
  13. If Kelsier was the original vessel then Leras, Ati, and Hoid should have all recognized him and hr them. If he picked up the Survival shard later on, then what happened to the original vessel? He/she just gave it up?!? Or Odium splintered it and Kelsier somehow found it and figured out how to unplinter it so he could pick it up despite having never left Scadrial till after he died and being Cosmere unaware until meeting Khriss and Nazh also after his death?!? Am I missing something that would make this a plausible theory?
  14. If Syl really died, then shouldn't there have been some regression, memory loss, and/or noticeable trauma?
  15. But wasn't her father much calmer and congenial in that scene as well?
  16. Is there a WoB on that? I don't think that's the case, especially given what we know about Mistborn Spoiler:
  17. Skybreakers could determine that one (tell if someone is lying). Not that I expect them to show up that quickly. As you mentioned above, he may have. Just without the proof. Though in Alethi society, that may not be as relevant -- I thought they were more testimony based anyway. It's still kind of messy of course, but the bad blood between Sadeas and Dalinar was not a secret. That may be enough to gloss over the event.
  18. The emperor received a crossbow bolt to the head. I suppose a coma is possible, but more likely he died from the wound and his body was healed soon enough afterwards to repair it but not soon enough to prevent the soul from leaving. We know that Nale had mere seconds to resurrect Szeth. I covered this more in the thread I linked to above. Also, in almost all of the discussions I have seen the mind=CR and the soul=SR. Pretty sure Brandon refers to them that way as well. For example:
  19. I laughed out loud when I read that!! Good one!! Maybe the servants helped raise Adolin, resulting if fewer ties to his mother? Or Dalinar was more involved in Adolin growing up since he's the heir. It does feel like we are missing out on something here, because normally losing your mother would be traumatic. Or is there a custom we are overlooking -- e.g. do men raise their sons and women their daughters (at least once they get to a certain age)? I think this was explained in the book. Basically, there are different rules for battle and politics. Plus the battle gave Sades an excuse to hide behind, even if everyone know what really happened. With that said, there are extenuating circumstances such as Sadeas' past behavior. And Sadeas may have stepped over a line into treason territory, or at least enough for Adolin to justify his actions. The problem there though is Adolin probably should have challenged him to a duel instead. There's also a "new" angle -- Sadeas is talking about undermining the KR leader (and doing so in Urithiru, the KR city/base of operations). I know have speculated the Skybreakers would come after Adolin, but it could go the other way -- if they can detect truth vs. lies, then they could ask Adolin to explain what happened and determine he is not lying (assuming he was telling the truth). Ditto for anyone claiming otherwise, such as Sadeas' widow. Anyway, with our luck it will be a minor event resolved in a couple pages.
  20. Pretty sure there is a WoB that puts Cusicesh and the other Unmade a step-below the Nightwatcher and the Stormfather. It's also really important to keep in mind the Stormfather is a sliver while the rest are splinters.
  21. This may be relevant to the Unmade and Nightwatcher: Source for the above quote: I don't see the Nightwatcher+Unmade connection -- the WoBs started out strongly hinting at the Nightwatcher:Cultivation connection (and so do the books), but more recently that has shifted to Brandon answering questions as if the connection has already been confirmed. If there was a mega-Unmade/Odium spoiler here, he would still be RAFO'ing the heck out if it instead of loosening up. Interesting theory, but I think there are some false assumptions being made that hurt it.
  22. Dalinar lectures Adolin on murdering Sadeas, and Adolin retorts back that if he (Dalinar) had stood up to Sadeas it wouldn't have happened. Maybe remind Dalinar about how many soldiers were lost when Sadeas betrayed him. I wouldn't mind that scene -- Dalinar needs to be called out for being so aloof and stupid back then. I'm not even sure I expect Dalinar to read the riot act to Adolin -- I bet there will be a lot of Blackthorn guilt (and maybe losing his wife as well). Anyway, I do not think what Adolin did will be as shocking to the Alethi as it is to us. It's not like Gavilar united them by peaceful, philosophical discussions. As a side note, regarding cracks in the spiritweb/snapping, I think we are all forgetting the loss of Adolin and Renarin's mother. Do we know how old Adolin was when it happened? Maybe Adolin is already primed for proto-KR status?
  23. I don't recall either, but unless it is explicitly stated Renarin gave up on the training, we should not be assuming he did. And if he did stop training then it is more likely that Zahel put an end to it (no doubt after hitting his head against a wall several times, all the while uttering some colorful (pun intended) metaphors). Alcoholism comes to mind. Elhokar appears to be one, and I know there's a WoB about the Kholins and so much alcohol. My guess is the dead spren was reacting significantly stronger because of so many shardblades nearby. Or maybe because more sapient spren were nearby (Syl and Pattern -- and presumably Glys). Note that this a point against him being in contact with other Trutchwatchers, since presumably they would have told him. Heck, didn't Glys warn him? I can only Glys refused to be present while the dead-shardblade was in use. I hope we get some hints in SA3 -- really not looking forward to having to wait for the back 5 to find out.
  24. Brandon has an unpublished scene showing what happens right after Jasnah is "killed" on the ship that explains 3 and 4. It's a rough draft, so not canon, but gives you a good idea of what to expect. http://www.tor.com/2014/08/06/stormlight-archive-scene-after-words-of-radiance
  25. I'm not sure what to make of your use of the word "cartoon". I specifically mentioned Anime, and two by name, both of which were targeted at older audiences and neither of which felt cartoonish. It's not hard to find dark and gritty Anime. From a quick DuckDuckGo search: https://www.reddit.com/r/Animesuggest/comments/305c01/gritty_dark_anime/ https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/1wrzbn/violent_gritty_realistic_animes_like_attack_on/ I don't know why so many people want live action -- their won't be a big enough budget to pull it off right. It would almost be easier to drop the crustacean theme and just set it on an Earth like planet. If you want the Roshar of the novels then it will have to be animated, and even then budget could be a concern.
