  1. It could be poor memory, or it could be that she has helped others besides Kaladin kill before, which does suggest a KR in a previous era. It would explain how she begins to remember things.
  2. Granted. You pass on to the Great Beyond. I wish to know what my bane is from my Mecha wish.
  3. Frenemies really stood out, but they are all great. Arena Groupies =
  4. But then why not say "I've helped you kill before"? And "men" is plural.
  5. Duh!! I had ruled him out as being too primitive, but you're right those birds offer huge advantages. He would definitely be on my team!
  6. That could give Roshar a chance, though I would still lean towards Scadrial. Again, "nothing to lose" can be a strong motivator. Yeah, but nothing significantly different than now, I would guess. I mean, we don't really have any hints of anything major going on 300 years earlier. Though what was up with the Parshendi and the peace treaty? What was that war like up to that point? Gavilar's assassination led to the Alethi takign the war to the shattered plains, so were the Parshendi harrying them before then?
  7. In that scenario, the Scadrians are likely trying to escape to the new planet, which would make them extremely motivated (i.e. not much to lose). It might actually go worse for Roshar. Allomancy alone gives Scadrial a big advantage. At least until Roshar gets rid of all metal in theoir weapons, armor, gear, camps, etc. Scadrial has much less to adapt to. Edit: at least less changes to gear, etc. to make.
  8. Her name is Khriss, and she is not from Sel or Scadrial. Eki's link (above) has a lot more, if you don't mind spoilers.
  9. Taking that further, put the negative force Ati had corrupted into out if its misery, finally granting the Ati he knew peace.
  10. One thing BoM gives us is the ability to power something without needing a person to do it (recall how the airship worked). Could that be the missing piece?
  11. Avatar does seem to be the best recent example. The X-Men of Saturday morning from many, many years ago was actually pretty good. Or at least I remember it that way. Anyway, I think there are more examples of Anime that show Japan could do a decent job on it than here in the US. And we certainly have "hit too close to home" examples here in the US of series done horribly wrong (like TWoT and DragonLance that I mentioned). I will take a decent Anime even if it misses the High Fantasy mark a bit over utter garbage. So, side question: has SA been translated to Japanese and if so, do we have any hint at how sales are over there?
  12. Is my bane that the Cosmere now has mecha? Your wish is granted. Your bane is you are stuck on Braize with Odium. Cheers to your continued good health!! I wish Alcatraz was part of the Cosmere.
  13. And if Roshar somehow gained an advantage, TLR could reveal new technology to help his forces out. I could see him staying home to guard TWoA but he's not going to let his forces just get wiped out. Though I'm with Voidus. Short version is Scadrial's magic can be used elsewhere much more easily than Roshar's and it has significantly better tactical advantages.
  14. Pretty sure there is recent a WoB that mentioned that there are forces actively trying to keep Harmony unaware of the rest of the Cosmere (at least as unaware as possible). Edit: Ninja'd by Voidus! If Odium was heavily invested in Braize he would be a much less serious threat. He's trapped there somehow, but I do not think there is any evidence he is heavily invested there.
  15. Khriss for the knowledge and 17th Shard insider info Shallon because she's my favorite from SA and for Ghostbloods insider info Wax and Wayne for shock & awe (also: Wax: detective; Wayne: streetsmarts/infiltration) Steris for planning, especially contingency planning Vin (pre-vessel/splinter) for scouting, guerilla warfare Kaladin for combat (spearman) and military knowledge/training plus medical knowledge TenSoon for infiltration Edit: Sixth of the Dusk as the ultimate scout (one bird that hides his presence and the other that foreshadows where death awaits). Props to IndigoAjah for the reminder.
  16. I would add Steris for contingency planning.
  17. Yeah, I am really hoping Eshonai can break free of storm form and Odium's control and become a KR!
  18. Anime is animation from Japan. It's not a genre. Yes, there are common tropes and common genres within Anime such as all the moe coming out these days but there are other styles and other genres of Anime. And I specifically listed two that 1) break the mold and 2) are generally considered the best Anime fantasy world building. If you haven't watched Moribito or Twelve Kingdoms I recommend you do, because you will see that fantasy can be really well done in Anime. Edit: And for any Sci-Fi fans out there, check out Planetes. Edit2: The animation in Avatar: The Last Airbender is a blend of common Anime styles and American cartoons, which could definitely work for a SA animated series.
  19. How good is Szeth? So far he's either fought non-magic users not familiar with fighting someone with his abilities, and then Kaladin, who for the most part has the same powers (e.g. lashings). In the Arena, everyone is a magic user, and some have already had to adapt on the fly to a new power being used against them. I'm having a hard time seeing him as a serious threat. Yeah, probably e.g. more of a threat than Dalinar, but not e.g. Vasher or even Vin, who has been shown to have great intuition when pressed.
  20. Beyond the obvious Kandra, I'm thinking Khriss since she is the most knowledgeable about the Cosmere.
  21. A declaration of war between shards is very different than Scadrial vs. Roshar, and probably worthy of a new thread. Edit: To be clear, barring a very quick victory, motivations matter. It's easier to ask about a person vs. person battle because of the smaller scale and assumed shorter time frame. Wars tend to stretch out much longer, and morale, logistics, etc. are all factors, especially they longer they go, making scenarios like this too contrived. Also, the OP was Elendel vs. Alethkar, and a suggested motivation was freeing slaves. I also mentioned that Scadrial is the clear winner in this contrived scenario a couple pages back. We've been on tangents for a while now.
  22. Why does everything think American TV or live action? The DragonLance animated "movie" was horrible, we saw what happened to the Wheel of Time, etc. My first thought is an Anime series. Get Kenji Kamiyama (Moribito, GiTS:SAC) or the team that did the Twelve Kingdoms. Either could do a great job with it. And several others could do a decent job. Odds of something half-way decent coming out of Japan are way higher than here in the US.
  23. Well, that brings several thoughts to mind (in the context of this thread): Why waste time when the Alethi are doing it to themselves already? Impatience? The Kandra on Roshar was somehow involved with Szeth The Kandra on Roshar is Sadeas or his wife.
  24. Ah, gotcha! Agreed on that point. This did get me thinking though. Who is more likely to employ Sun Tzu Art of War/Guerilla warfare style tactics, and I would say the Scadrial history and magic systems all favor them. If Scadrial is serious, I think it would be a quick war, and I think people are overestimating the size of the army the Scadrials would need.
  25. Without knowing the motivation, we don't know how much the Scadrians will take advantage of the obvious edge they have. For example, if Harmony is not happy about it then the Kandra will either be off the table or working to subvert the war effort. On the other hand, if Harmony thinks Team Odium is making a play to shatter him, then Harmony might be pushing for every advantage he can get. Maybe even Marsh decides to step into the fray. It also factors into how prisoners are treated, if conditional surrenders are an option and how favorable they are (the more favorable the more likely a couple decisive battles may be all that is needed to win the war for Scadrial). Think about Vietnam -- that was about reducing the West's willingness to fight enough to them to withdraw. Also an example where superior technology did not win the war. If Scadrial is invading Roshar with no clear motivation then Roshar has a chance to push them back since they do have a clear reason to fight.
