[OB] Kaladin's going to summon a highstorm
IntentAwesome replied to What's a Seawolf?'s topic in Stormlight Archive
I agree. Most orders seems to have two vastly different powers. Light weaving and soul casting are two different things that can be used in different ways. What we have seen Kaladin do so far can mostly be summed up as manipulating how objects move (or don’t move). I’m hoping to see more out of windrunner powers. Syl seems to agree that windrunners have some power over the storms. From WoK, “Kaladin, you’ve heard the stories. Men who walked on walls, men who bound the storms to them.” I don’t think they can summon a high storm. But maybe they can pull one along with them, so they have a constant supply of stormlight. -
Agreed!! Also, guilty. I have the book! THE BOOK

I have been wondering why the mystery drawings would include horses specifically. The other two made sense as twisted versions of the Urithiru drawings, but horses seemed odd. But then I remembered that Renarin mentioned having Shallan draw Sureblood. We don’t know if she actually did. But if she did, then this could be a twisted version of that drawing. This makes me lean more towards the copycat spren being responsible for the drawings. It’s not just mimicking acts of harm, but mimicking and twisting other things as well. But how pervasive is it?

Thank goodness Shallan didn't kill that horneater!! Also, I need to hear the jokes Adolin is cracking with Bridge Four. Basically, I just need more Bridge Four.

If Bondsmiths had the ability to strip a piece of the soul off an entire population of people for generations, it makes sense to me that some part of their power can also restore pieces of soul. It doesn't seem unreasonable to me that some part of Dalinar's power is healing his memory. And I don't think it's a coincidence that we learned part of what happened to the parshmen right after Dalinar's memories are starting to come back. Also, on Urithiru, a bit of a wild theory. But there is some legend that says Honor built the place himself right? What if the copycat murders are part of some kind of checks and balances system? If you commit a crime, kill someone, then the cost is the life of someone else. Some bizarre way of maintaining balance. And an interesting way to keep a bunch of people who have very powerful weapons in check. It might make them think twice about doing something to someone. Not quite sure how exactly that fits in with Honor, as there are no oaths involved. Still thinking on it...

Thanks! Nothing better than a tent full of innocent children to make you rethink whether or not a whole group of people are evil!

I had wondered the same about May. It does make more sense politically now, I think. But it seems odd that even though her name has been mentioned every other paragraph, we still haven't seen her in person, if she is going to become an important player.

Just to add more fuel to the fire on the ship wars. But we saw that Dalinar just had to step down from his position as Highprince of Kholinar to be a leader of the Knights Radiant, otherwise he is not an impartial leader for a world organization of some very powerful people. Will that hold true for all of the radiants? If Shallan and Adolin married, can Shallan be the...highlady?... of Kholinar as a radiant? This, to me, seems like a feasible reason that Adolin and Shallan may have to break things off, even though they seem to get on well.

Am I the only one who thinks the tent probably has children and/or the elderly in it? Just to pull on all of Kaladin's feels.

[OB] Scenes you wish to see in Oathbringer
IntentAwesome replied to Wax's topic in Stormlight Archive
It probably won't happen, because this is epic fantasy and not a feel-good book. But I'd love to see scenes of bridge four telling Lirin stories about Kaladin and how he helped them, with Lirin realizing that Kaladin has done a lot of good despite being a "killer." Also, I'm fully onboard with any Syl/Pattern interaction: Kaladin: Syl! I don't always get along with Shallan either, but you don't see me standing on her. -
I'm afraid Elhokar is up for another disappointment. Kaladin is already on his way to Kholinar. Without Elhokar.

I agree that Kaladin's actions seemed planned, though not necessarily for a long time. He seemed to arrive at a conclusion while he was sitting there observing. I have been racking my brains trying to figure out what good plan could possibly start with punching Roshone, as satisfying as it is. The best that I can come up with is that Kaladin is trying to demonstrate how ineffective roshones guards are, so they will agree to being trained by Kaladin. It would be the best way for Kaladin to help protect Hearthstone and his parents long term. And it makes sense to train better fighters with the onslaught of global war.

Theories/Wild Speculation on Stormlight Archives Structure
IntentAwesome replied to Ammanas's topic in Stormlight Archive
I always pictured the first half having a tragic ending, with whoever is picked as Honor's champion actually losing the duel. Then the next arc would open up with them having to figure out some other way to defeat odium. Seems to me like a tragic ending is really the only way to carry momentum into another arc. And it would be perfectly ironic for Kaladin to be the champion and for him to fail when it actually does mean everything. Though I hope not as I actually really don't want to Kaladin to die. -
Only if you take prophecy as inevitable. Prophecy is a little overused in fantasy, and so far Brandon has been good at at least subverting the prophecy. I think the more important factor is the godlike, hatred shard trying to ensure the Everstorm happens. I know I'm probably hoping against hope, but I'm really hoping Stormlight doesn't get completely dark and depressing. I like that, right now, SA deals with some very tragic events without becoming overly depressing.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the irony in the Stormlight Archive so far? The Parshendi entered a sort of exile millennia ago to avoid their gods, then assassinate a king to stay away from them. But the war they started by assassinating the king eventually drives them into such desperate circumstances that they return to their gods anyway. Dalinar is trying to unite the Radiants and prevent the Everstorm. But his actions in doing so drive the Parshendi into even greater desperation, eventually causing them to summon the Everstorm. Kaladin only wants to protect others. But revealing his powers to the Parshendi at the Tower is just another driving force that pushes the Parshendi towards the forms of power. And, especially, his rescuing Dalinar and preventing Eshonai from suing for peace before it was too late, was a huge factor in the arrival of the everstorm I know that's a simplified view of what's going on, and there are a lot of factors at play here. The Everstorm was probably inevitable regardless, but still. That is some beautiful irony. And so depressing.

Why do Truthless exist? (Potential WoR spoilers)
IntentAwesome replied to Faceless Mist-Wraith's topic in Stormlight Archive
@Calderis Now that you mention it, I remember something along those lines. Is there a WoB on that? But it makes that diagram quote even more confusing. The wording is ambiguous, but it seems to imply that Mr T was involved, or planned to be involved, in what happened to Szeth. -
Why do Truthless exist? (Potential WoR spoilers)
IntentAwesome replied to Faceless Mist-Wraith's topic in Stormlight Archive
Maybe the oathstone doesn't normally come with an honor blade. Maybe that was a little intervention on the part of Mr. T. "Ah but they were left behind It is obvious from then ature of the bond But where where where where Setoff Obvious Realization like a pricity They are with the Shin We must find one Can we make to use a Truthless Can we craft a weapon —From the Diagram, Floorboard 17: paragraph 2, every second letter starting with the first" I agree it's a terrible punishment, but I do think it's odd that the Shin, who are normally a peaceable people, would inflict such harm on other people, albeit indirectly. -
Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)

Granted, but you have published your book in a society that is not literate. I wish to know everything. -
Could this just be an artistic representation of Jasnah being partially in the cognitive realm and partially in the physical? The stairs exist in the physical but don't exist as such in the cognitive or vice versa?
-
This also brings to mind the fact that the Alethi revere soldiers as the highest calling because of the battle in the afterlife. What if the Alerhi now have to face the idea that this may be false and take responsibility for their warring?

*She* means shadesmar. But no I'm talking about the spren. Not all of them are invisible to most people, but I imagine plenty of them are. Or at least won't reveal themselves.

While I was walking today, I was thinking how funny Urithiru would be, with everybody walking around, talking to people nobody else could see. And then I passed someone who was talking on the phone with headphones. Never mind.

Another potential problem I can see with the crystallized stormlight theory is that we've seen that Adolin can mentally release (should that be Command? ) his shardplate, and he has no ability (at least at this point) to manipulate stormlight.
