Honestly, more SoS spoilers, but this just occurred to me. This is somewhat about Trell's influence, but more about his tendency to have (two) villains in these books spiked. It's almost like a pattern, but I think that might be a little far... So, how do we know that he was spiked? Wax mentions it in his POV in chapter 13: Was spiked, Brandon mentioned this in his Chapter 13 Annotations for Alloy of Law. Also: Odd? Well, we do know something about odd spikes that Sazed cannot sense. If Miles got a different metal grafted onto his spikes, then, in theory, he may have a Trellium spike. In other words, Miles was not possessed, but Trell had direct influence over him through his spikes, perhaps whispering words of grandeur (or whatever) into his ears. Driving Miles [more] insane, and upping those psychological qualities Miles presumably had some control over in the Roughs. In other words, much like Paalm, Miles' actions are directly linked to or influenced by Trell. I don't think that it excuses his actions, but one of the themes in all three books so far has been stopping someone you know/care about when they go bad because YOU would've wanted them to do the same thing if you were in their shoes. It's a strange kind of love; a strange kind of idea of mercy, really. First it was Miles, then Paalm, and now Telsin (she is still Wax's sister, so, I believe she fits the theme). It also means that someone else might go bad in the Lost Metal, since it fits the series' authentic. [Perhaps the last book will be stopping someone before they go bad, but that's neither here or there]. So basically, Miles was spiked just like Paalm; he was using Hemalurgy, it seems, and it was probably Trellium. Marasi should go and find his metalminds to make some...interesting connections...

[Secret History Spoilers] Have we seen him since?
Jazzy Kandra replied to Night Eyes's topic in Mistborn
I think it's entirely logical (even hinted at) that Kelsier asked Marsh to give Wax the book. After all, Wax is doing "my brother [Kelsier]'s work". -
[Secret History Spoiler] Whose body is it anyway?
Jazzy Kandra replied to RShara's topic in Mistborn
Spook was in charge of Elendel at the time, in other words, too busy rebuilding Northern society to run down South... Rebuilding a society from the ground up is no picnic. It would be completely irresponsible for Spook to have the time to hop on a boat or even into the Cognitive Realm, and go South for how ever-many-years Kelsier was there rebuilding their society. And from his legendary status, it seems Spook is well-respected in Northern society. So, going down South and fixing their society sounds completely out-of-character, and anyway, he doesn't have the time... Also, let's infer some stuff. Considering that rebuilding a society (Elendel) is hard as heck, they probably needed everyone that they could to do so. That means it's altogether logical that Spook, Marsh, Breeze, Ham, etc. were too busy rebuilding to go down South. They, as the de facto leaders of Northern society (and presumably Sazed), had a lot on their plate already. So, while it's possible to presume Marsh and Kelsier could've somehow did some weird tag-team stuff, I don't believe it's likely. One, Marsh's spikes already have a certain Intent; grafting a new Intent (like Connecting something from the Cognitive Realm to the Physical Realm) probably needs a new spike. Someone died here, I think, except if there's another way to shove a lot of pre-programmed? (sDNA/spiritweb) Investiture into a spike... So, I think it is Kelsier, 100%; though he probably did some weird hijacking to basically become a Scadrial equivalent of a Returned. My thought is this: we know that Sovereign has an eye-spike, but we don't know if he has any other spikes. While we can presume that he used the eye-spike to form a Connection, I'm of the opinion this wasn't the case. An eye-spike is useful, you can see even trace metals and Kelsier is a specialist when it comes to Pushing and Pulling. I presume that whatever spike (or set of spikes) he's using to Connect to the Physical Realm steal Connection, allowing something to get in that shouldn't be able to regularly... So, assuming that Spook drained someone else's Connection (maybe someone did a heinous crime and Spook believed it was justified?) with a duralumin? spike, then all they would need is a recently deceased body (maybe?) or something that just needs a new Connection to the Cognitve + Spiritual Realm to work again.- 51 replies

the most useless uses for useful powers
Jazzy Kandra replied to king of nowhere's topic in Cosmere Discussion
First, acquire Fullborn-status. Then, make sure you have plenty of Atium, Cadium, and Duralumin. Now, set in your speed bubble and wait for time and the cosmere to come to an end. -
Pagerunner: everyone (or some people, at least, perhaps) somehow become Spren that you can bond too. I'm kidding, saying some Spren are Cognitive Ghosts is completely ridiculous! (Discounting Stormfather of course, he's a Spren and Honor's...Cognitive Ghost, apparently.)

Wax suggests this is possible to Marasi, in fact: "The Bands are drained, mostly, but we could probably recharge them by compounding." (Bands of Mourning, kindle, 384) So compounding should work...probably.

Wouldn't say suspicious, just somewhat logical. Arguably, it was the only solution to their problems, so, while he may have had the advantage of forming trust relationships more quickly, it also wasn't meant to be malicious... That being said, maybe you can store more than one type of Connection? Perhaps you can store Connection to location, people, or things. In fact, I think it's logical for there to be different types of Connection. The best example to Connection to location outside of Bands, are the different forms which Investiture takes in Elantris, since these are based on Connection to location. Arguably, being born with certain sDNA Connects you to your parents, on Scadrial, snapping increases your Connection you to Preservation. Connection to people is pretty easy to explain. An another example for Connection to people comes from the first Allomancer Jak story. In this story, the Terrisman taps Connection. The Terrisman uses it to form trust-relationships with the Koloss, not a place (it seems) to save Jak... (Jak writes about it. It's funny that Jak, a non-Terris, understands Connection despite that the Terris are rather secretive about it...That might mean that the in-world writer is a Terris or half-Terris Connector Ferring or something like that. Perhaps it's Kelsier, dabbling in writing bad fiction about his adventures in the Roughs. Nah, that's just too silly.)

Sanderson Interview
Jazzy Kandra replied to Darkness Ascendant's topic in General Brandon Discussion
I'm going to recommend, as a professional historian, that you chose someone else, actually. It's not only because he's really busy right now, but generally he's only been active for ten years... Making an argument for "historical significance/relevance" can be difficult for something so recent, even though I think he probably will be historically significant in certain circles in the future, it doesn't mean it will fly with your history teacher (but it might not matter, say if you're in high school, but in college, I'd steel clear of really recent events/people in history classes). That being said, another problem you might run into if you don't have a lot of time is transcribing. Since I image you don't have the right equipment, it's actually a pretty hard task with just a computer. You'll need to give yourself enough time to transcribe the interview, since, that's often a requirement for Oral History assignments. All this being said, I think if you can get away with it (depends...on his time and yours), you should do it. Just make sure that you do enough research on him, writing, and epic fantasy (even though you've read his books) to make sure you can ask INTERESTING questions from a historical perspective. Be thoughtful about these questions, don't spend too much time on stuff you already know (like his laws of magic) because you can get that information online and just reference it in your footnotes, etc. -

What are the new perpendicularities [Secret History Spoilers]
Jazzy Kandra replied to Fallen Rope's topic in Mistborn
I think that it could be possible that there are in fact three now, reflecting Harmony, Ruin, and Preservation. Harmony is both two Shards and one Shard, and perhaps even three Shards (if you count stuff weird..., like by Intents instead of the actual number of Shards, hahaha). Anyway, I think that Harmony's pool (or Preservation's, doesn't matter), is the weird pool in that the masked-individual was spotted at in the mountains east of New Seran. Like, they are snow-covered mountains (like Sazed's homeland, it's authentic!), and oddly, the Sovereign's spearhead and crap is located near them. This could've been just the "test", but that just seems like it would actually be a really convenient location if Harmony' perpendicularity is nearby. (Snark: And now Harmony's servants have Kell's bands. I'm sure Kell will be completely "happy" with that...he can't just pick them up and mess things up worse, somehow, probably a good thing). -
Wayne Disapproval Thread (Potential Wayne-related spoilers)
Jazzy Kandra replied to aeromancer's topic in Mistborn
I like MeLaan, but I feel she was cut short by the book. She has only one POV scene, and I think a lack of POV really cuts down on any depth that a character might have, same with Rock. Get inside a character's head, suddenly they're a ton more...real, or should be. Wax, Wayne, Marasi, and Steris all have more scenes from their POV, and I think that given she is part of the 'five man band' of the trilogy proper, she should have some more than she has gotten. In other words, I think she was...or we were...sold a bit short, in this respect. ANYWAY, while I don't detest Wayne, I found his actions somewhat...I was more disgusted with him in this book, more or less because he was being a total jerk to Wax and Steris. I mean, when he hired those guys, he did do so with the expressed desire to ruin Wax's wedding (even if he never planned to crash it with a water tower), and he later makes some jokes at Wax's expense that I thought went too far (the fat jokes, mainly). How he treats Steris is also despicable (but completely in character), I hope she saves his life in the next book just so he can feel really bad about it. I think though, and I might be wrong, it's not a problem with characterization. He's a three-dimensional character who is ALSO a jerk, and sometimes that jerkiness is not funny or something that we should easily forgive (just because it's Wayne). He needs to grow up (more than he does in this book, and I think moving away from Ranette was actually a really mature thing for Wayne to do), like seriously, he can still be the same hat-loving, thieving, disguise loving idiot, but he's in desperate need of some character growth too. -
If Kelsier brought followers from Elendel, some of them could have been Terris and thus had the Ferring gene... They could've then had babies too. We know that "He [Kelsier] gave us devices, and started the Firemothers and Firefathers, who live to fill these medallions so the rest of us may leave our homes and survive in this too-cold world.” (291) So, we can assume that these people are brass ferrings (and possibly Twinborn Soother, because that would be useful, in this case)... I think that from the text, it suggests that the Excisors might be related to nicrosil. Maybe Kelsier filled/made a bunch of nicrosil metalminds via Compounding, and they use those nicrosil metalminds to create metalminds that anyone can use. Or the Excisors are some weird device that...somehow can create blank nicrosil metalminds. I don't think it's related to Hemalurgy. It smells like a weird Allomantic/Feruchemic device, more than anything else...

[Secret History Spoilers] Have we seen him since?
Jazzy Kandra replied to Night Eyes's topic in Mistborn
Pretty sure I never said, "he isn't", I was only acknowledging people who think otherwise. I can assure you that it is 100% for-certain Kelsier, according to what Weiry told me a few weeks ago, but they can clear that up. *shrug* (I've also enjoyed watching everyone arguing about who it was for awhile now, impulse joined, more or less). I...kind of agree. I also think that Marasi fits better. Wax is a...sour-pragmatist; Marasi is a somewhat pragmatic, idealist. She's seen embracing this side of her personality more and more as the series goes on. And Kelsier does have some idealist tendencies, he'd probably like some of her less...than realistic ideas. (And I'm a cynic). A friend of mine and me have a joke that, if she does die in the last book, she'll meet Kelsier (and Sazed)...but if she doesn't, she'll have one last scene where either Marsh or Kel asks her to join the Scadrial-based organization they made (or cosmere-based, whatever it is). So basically, Marasi becomes the worldhopper, not Wayne. -
Darn...I'm sure you'll give it up eventually, though. (Also, I believe I already follow you, so, there you go.)

[Secret History Spoilers] Have we seen him since?
Jazzy Kandra replied to Night Eyes's topic in Mistborn
I don't think this is totally off topic, but I think I might...have some suggestions for possible actions that Kelsier might have taken in Mistborn Era 2/1.5 (at least in Alloy of Law)...assuming Kelsier is the one-eye spike man. Number One: Bloody Tan really did see Marsh, Kelsier, and Sazed before he shot Lessie. So, Tan wasn't lying, but it may be a sign of his insanity, since insanity means he has a broken mind, after all, he may have been spiked, as well, and he may be an Electrum/Atium Misting (which can have interesting effects in itself, and not the best power for a crazy person). I'm guessing the results of this meeting were that Marsh and Kelsier disagreed with how Sazed was approaching/dealing with the Set; considering that Marsh gives them Spook's book (an action Sazed didn't agree with) and tells Marasi that Wax is "doing his brother's work". I think it's completely reasonable that Tan saw this, but also didn't understand what he saw. Number Two: On the broadsheet in Alloy, there is an article entitled "The Faceless Immortal Saved My Life", basically a woman and her children were saved from their tenement by a person she "swore was wearing the face of her departed husband". While the kandra story is possible, I want to suggest that one: a woman in such a situation might be delusional; two: it seems like an odd mission for a kandra; and three: it's just a very Kelsier thing to do (and if he still has his eye-spike, it's probably something she forgot or didn't even notice in the fire). So, I think it's possible that it was no kandra, it was a very sneaky Kelsier. -
I'm kandra-in-disguise (or jazzy-kandra, atm) from tumblr. Accordingly, madder than a barrow full of Koloss...and practitioner of bad kandra jokes. So, hi! Can I have that skull when you die? (I've read all the cosmere books, I know what it is, and I like crazy-illogical theories instead of logical ones...hehehe)
