  1. Yes, in the right circumstances, Roshar could win. Scadrial trying to invade would face a lot of attrition, but would likely win most staked battles. Also, the second Rosharan soldiers swipe a gun away from Scadrial infantry, soul casters can start mass producing. I have come to the conclusion that, with the set parameters, Scadrial would likely win, but not by as much as you'd think. Scadrial troops would have initial enormous environmental attrition, and Roshar would have enormous initial defeats due to inferior tech. However, Roshars - quite frankly stupidly overpowered - mass production can really close the gap in terms of strength.
  2. did you finish Wor?
  3. I'd imagine it would sustain damage, and the bullet would be ricochet off the armor.
  4. Have someone destroy the spanreed if they think they might get captured, then have anyone who might know how to build or fix one commit suicide, or order your troops to kill them so as not to divulge secrets. and I just remembered that they'd likely emerge in the horneater peaks, and that very hostile environment would kill almost all of them. Also, this is just Elendel, they don't have any southern tech in this scenario, so no warmth medalions either.
  5. I'd imagine that's because his laws require him to do whatever the bearer of the oathstone orders him to do. This creates a paradox, and in that event the oathstone takes higher priority.
  6. Man, roshar isn't getting any love today. Roshar is the ultimate defensive location If a Scadrial army tried to invade: Highstorms would tear them apart, and they don't yet know how to predict them, so a rosharin (rosharian?) army could draw them out and devastate them. Unaccustomed to the new environment, they wouldn't know what plants are safe to eat or what to use for medicine, meaning they would have to export crops and supplies from Scadrial, when all Roshar needs to do is whip out a gemheart and a soulcaster to feed themselves. It also needs to be noted that Scadrial has a pretty terrible standing army (if there even is one), so they would lack the discipline and experience of the veteran spearmen. and that is before we consider the warlike nature of Roshar, and the relatively timid Scadrian government. Also, for this scenario, lets assume that none of the really powerful entities are partaking in this fight, so no ironeyes, no BoM, no heralds. Just shardbearers, mistings/twinborns, and radiants. Also, I highly suspect the mist could be used to power a soulcaster if roshar was invading.
  7. While I will argue with you about capitalism being the alleged source of all evil, other than that you are pretty spot on.
  8. Elantrians wear colorful garb because there is a lack of any other cloth. Elantrians (working versions) actually have a limited choice of clothing because they are silver.
  9. So, I'll start this with how this would happen. For simplicity, lets say this conflict takes place between Alethkar and Elendel, with none of the other factions coming into play. Elendel's people (at least the North) have a great hatred towards slavery, due to TLR's oppression, and many religious figures fighting slavery and oppression. Alethkar has widespread use of slavery, a caste system similar to nobles and skaa, and pretty corrupt/terrible leaders, so it's not to hard to imagine one of these nations going at the others throat. Who do you think would win?
  10. We should be careful, we're starting to derail the thread. But with anything that isn't sanderson, you can predict the plot like this: Step 1: Evaluate the situation, NOT the characters in said situation Step 2: What emotion clouded choice does every 'hero' make? (do I save my girlfriend, or the world?) (side note: this is why I like Vin) Step 3: Sigh in boredom. OR, we have the edgy fantasy version Step 1: How can we make our cast do the most graphic sexual acts physically possible. Step 2: Alternatively, how can we kill off every character who can be considered a decent human being.
  11. I was like that before I started reading Sanderson's books, so yes, you are correct. To be fair, for 90% of people who read the hunger divergent runner trilogy, it is the best book ever, because It's the only book they've ever read.
  12. I'd be called the displacer, as well as a number of other highly unflattering things, and my ability is that I can teleport anywhere. People hate me because my sole purpose in life would be to teleport into peoples houses and hide all their keys in strange/obscure places. My weakness is having small pieces of dense, aerodynamic mass typically of a metallic nature traveling at a high velocity perforate my body. I wear a top hat and suit like a true gentleman. Best part about me is, you never know if you've made an enemy, or just forgotten where your keys are.....
  13. I read that, and it was okay - a great book by regular standards. I liked parts were they were discussing the history of the solar system. I could kinda guess the plot, but until I discovered Sanderson's works I've always been able to do that..... but once again back on topic: When you must repress the urge to throw the nearest heavy object for talking about how the Hunger games/divergent/maze runner is/are the best book(s) ever written.
  14. Wait, Seriously!? Has there been a WoB on this?
  15. Whenever I read a fantasy book and groan at the Godlike powers and generic character the protagonist has, and fail to be invested (see what I did there?) at all..... Seriously, I really have trouble going back to that drivel these days........ Also, cosmere puns
  16. Wow, you noticed Demoux on your 1st pass of WoR??? Okay, Hemalurgy can be used (although the process is unknown) to steal powers from any magic system. The ghostbloods contain at least 2 worldhoppers Odium was the one who killed the shards Devotion and Dominion, who lived on Sel (Elantris). You may have noticed many bodies of water with special properties, these are shardpools (Horneater peaks, well of ascension, the pool there elantrians could die an excruciating death by being ripped apart by the chaotic forces of the shattered shards, and Patji's eye) some characters have used them to hop worlds Hoid has a grudge against Rayse(Odium) Harmony might very well be the strongest entity in the cosmere at the moment. Odium is making plans to deal with Harmony
  17. I feel like that would take away from Szeth's character, transforming him from a man driven mad by the duties his own personal sense of honor demands he carries out, in constant conflict between his conscience and his duty, into a puppet. As readers, we are supposed to support windrunners more than skybreakers, because that's what the main character is. As such, by watching Szeth carry out atrocities because his laws demand it, it makes the reader think, "Why doesn't he just ignore his laws?," the readers are subtly aligned with windrunner ideology - do what is right, not what is required by laws. Plus, another main theme in the story is that honor has many forms, many of which conflict with each other. Why would his oathstone specifically be connected to skybreaker ideology? Finally, this was done with Marsh in mistborn, I don't think Brandon will do the same character twice.
  18. use duraluminums counterpart to flare a tineye, then pop a paper bag in his face. (works best on high cliffs)
  19. why on earth would you lug around all 10 honorblades? You are aware you'd have to physically carry them, because they can't turn to mist. Just spike them and take their powers.
  20. I'd either want something like dark souls, or to be present in an all-out cosmere war. Dunno if I'd side with Scadrial or Roshar.....
  21. 20 years of good books...... I'm fine with that.
  22. Ok, I'm glad/sad thats cleared up. See, I thought that surgebinding and voidbinding were only 2 of the magic systems on Roshar. Seems wierd that each surge pair would be a different system though; we don't consider a pewterarm part of a different system than a tineye. Still though, think how crazy It'd be if we had 28 other systems as larger as surgebinding.........
  23. Well, those would warp in contact with other spheres, no longer being perfectly symmetrical. BTW: I literally came up with this theory upon reading your post, so I don't know if it holds any weight.
  24. umm, all I know is that mistborn (age 1) is thousands of years before stormlight, and mistborn (era 2) takes place around the time of stormlight books 5 or 6. 6th of the dust is the book farthest down the timeline. Afraid thats all I can think of off the top of my head.
  25. Its a world in which symmetry has importance, and the sphere is perfectly symmetrical from every angle. an example of symmetry affecting the world can be observed by the way that cut - and therefore more symmetrical gems - can hold more stormlight than uncut gemstones.
