“Not according to Spook’s laws.” Kelsier smirked. “Kid put in an act of gods exception to criminal law. Murders committed by any of Scadrial’s acknowledged deities or people acting under their direct orders are not crimes. Nor are thefts, cons, assaults, kidnappings, or anything else really.”

“Nope,” Kelsier smirked. “It wouldn’t have the force to get high enough to hit atmosphere. I could push it, but then it would melt on the way out. Even if it did get offworld, it would still need to break orbit. At that point momentum and lack of friction would keep it going until it did hit something, but it’s a three dimensional space. The other worlds aren’t directly above us. There’s also an asteroid belt in the way. ”And it takes a long time to travel that way. Millions of years. Our sun could very well die before that bullet hits anything.” ”You never answered me,” Kelsier noted, turning back to the lawman. “Why arrest someone if no crime has been committed?”

“The former,” Kelsier said. “I’ve been there, you know. It’s beautiful.” Not that he’d stayed long or gone very far. He’d been more curious than anything. From above Scadrial looked like nothing so much as a blue and white ball, with tiny specks of light here and there where cities were. He’d watched the planet turn for hours before he’d finally let himself fall out of orbit. That part had been a lot of fun.

Kaladin is more very honorable, but he’s better suited to Valor. Honor contains a certain ruthlessness I don’t think he’s capable of. While Valorous acts can also be ruthless ones, that element isn’t an inherent part of the concept. Put another way: Valor is in saving lives. Honor is in doing so because of a code. Valor is in defeating your enemies. Honor is in doing so because your code says it’s right. Valor is in performing a difficult feat. Honor is in keeping to a code. Kaladin is much better suited to the former than the latter. He needs to act, to fight, to be doing something. Vivenna, who was raised to rule, is more inclined to the latter. While she can and does choose to act, she doesn’t need to the way Kaladin does.

Non-sapient Spren are like animals. ”You get to other worlds by walking through the Cognitive Realm. Or by traveling through the physical space between stars.” If he couldn’t figure out the other way, Kelsier had every intention of attempting the latter. Eventually. When he had time. “As to how many worlds have sapient life...” Kelsier smiled. “Well, that’s a secret I haven’t discovered yet. Dozens, most likely. Possibly even more. There’s only one in the Scadrian system, which seems to be typical. Roshar has three, which is less common, though one is only barely habitable. Sel, Nalthis, Taldain, Threnody, Obrodai, Vax...” He glanced up, to where the stars would be tonight, visible only to his left eye. They were far to distant for steel sight. “Far more than we’ll ever know, I’d guess.” He couldn’t quite keep the note of longing from his voice.

“Or you could go for a more technical explanation,” Kelsier said, acknowledging Adilie. “Though the Spiritweb is not exactly the Soul, assuming you believe in the concept of an immortal self. Which is not a requirement for working with me,” he added, “nor is believing in the Beyond.” He looked thoughtfully at Adillie. “Distance doesn’t really exist in the Spiritual. Time does, but it’s... complicated. The Spiritual realm is the realm of Connection and our Spiritwebs are exactly that: giant webs of Connection tying us to everyone and everything and everyplace in our lives. The ties to our past are there too, and there are ties to our possible futures.” A mournful expression briefly crossed his face. “You’re Connected to everything and everything is Connected to you. You ARE everything. Even when it’s gone, the echoes of those Connections remain, a memory of a memory of what it was like when you were.”

“Going right for the big existential questions, I see,” Kelsier said smiling. “Good! That’s how you learn.” ”Other realm,” Eryn explained. “Land of mist lay over all.” “The land of the mind,” Kelsier nodded. “And of concepts and ideas.”

She’s 15 1/2 by our years actually. I’ve pointed this out in regards to Thaidakar, who probably wouldn’t see her as a child at all. (At least not in the sense that we do.) Please note that Vin was half a year older and I doubt anyone would question it if she had gotten a Spren. Or Spook, for that matter - and Spook is YOUNGER than Lift in TFE.

Kelsier’s smile faded slightly, before returning in full force. “Come on Sage. You can’t tell me you don’t have questions.”

“Preservation,” Kelsier said. “Well, he used to be. I got the job after him, mostly due to a lack of alternative options.”

Kelsier smiled. “I’m not blaming you, Sage. Probably a good thing you didn’t punch me. I doubt I’d have taken it quite as well as Fuzz.” Eryn sighed exasperatedly. “Likes to startle people,” she explained. “Thinks is funny.”

“Sure you do,” Kelsier replied grinning. “True, fainting doesn’t have quite the same flair, but it definitely works as humor.” ”Stole my chocolate,” Eryn said dryly. “Chased him. Sat down hard when he took off mask.”

Kelsier grinned. “I punched Preservation in the face. What else do you do when you meet your god?” ”Give chocolate?” Eryn suggested dryly. “Works on you.”

“Occasionally,” Kelsier admitted. “More often amusing. I really don’t remember much between getting my skull crushed and tripping over my corpse in the Cognitive Realm, but that generally isn’t what my followers want to hear.” He grinned brightly. “Of course, the next thing I did was a punch a god, so that makes up for it a bit.”

He shrugged. “You’d be amazed how often I’ve been asked about it. Might be nice to have an actual answer.” He chuckled suddenly. “You should have seen Spook’s face when I asked what the spear was all about.” Partially colored 3 of Spears.

“I can sympathize,” Kelsier said. “Not that I remember it particularly well, but apparently I was stabbed through the chest once.” He didn’t remember it at all actually. He’d been rather startled to discover the fact after he’d begun paying attention to the new religion that had formed around him. Not that he hadn’t been perfectly happy to embrace the spear imagery as his personal symbol.

Just a reminder that Orthodox Jewish members should not be given tournament dates that include Friday and Saturday. Also that Pesach is in three weeks. -

“You just noticed?” Kelsier drawled. “You may as well stay in until I drop it. It’s not like you’d get very far and I prefer knowing where the spies are.” He smirked, eye narrowed. “You’re a lot more flamboyant than most Kandra, aren’t you. Not too fond of the homeland.”
